lithiumink Blog

Vana' diel I am home again!

Ok so it's been a while since I've added an entry to my blog. Well this will be an update on what's going on here more than a rant. To be honest I haven't really found much to be upset about lately. Other than minor comments on YouTube.
I have returned to FFXI, and I am actually enjoying the game again. I have switched professions. I've taken Warrior up and so far am enjoying it. I got WAR up to 18 which means I can use it as a sub job until 37. In reality I can only take WAR up to 22 since I need to raise MNK for a subjob, right now it is only 11. Ugh I have what 3 jobs to take through the dunes? So MNK, NIN and PLD (maybe SAM). Oh the joy of the Dunes. I think I have decided to take up PLD for a while since I have always been partial to it. However I would like to work on COR. It seems like a fun job. Mebbe I will work on RNG to see. So many jobs so little time, money , and well time. I will let everyone know what I decide.
I have returned Bioshock and Princess Peach. I played through Princess Peach and it was fun up until I came to the part where you have to hold still in a pose. Yeah I get it that you have to show skill. But when you get frustrated with a game, it starts to become less fun and more of a waste. I really got upset having to do a room over and over again. So I calmly put it back in it's return envelope.
Bioshock was returned because I haven't played it in a few weeks. I have enjoyed the game. It is fun. and exciting. However when you look in your drawer of games and say oh wow I still have this, yeah it is time to return it. Hey it is a game Fly game, I can borrow it again later if I choose. Right now I put Force Unleashed on my Queue so it will ship when it's released. I also put in for Bullet Witch, I heard some pretty bad things about it. So that may mean I will like it. HA! Oh well I will know in a few days when it comes in. I will put my point of view on it up as soon as I play it.
I also purchased Shivering Isles for Oblivion. It's a little weird but just like Oblivion it's fun to run around killing baddies. I use Oblivion as a I am bored game. Don't want to play FF or any other game in my collection. I also preordered Lego Batman. I hope it's enjoyable as Indian Jones. I will see when it comes out on the 23rd. I have also been tinkering around with Bionic Commando: ReArmed. Ahh just like the retro game, just with more stuff. LOL. It's not too bad. I really need to get a grip on he swing mechanics. Really, if you mess up you are basically toast. Some of the achievements too are fairly difficult if you do not have a good grasp on swinging. Eh, still it's fun none the less.
I am off to log on FF and collect more necklaces for my ninjitsu scrolls. I'll try to be more diligent with updates and rants. I might actually start a mock column about the jobs in FFXI. I've done a few so far and have gotten decent feedback on them. No I am not going to mock the ones I don't like, I am going to make an attempt to do them all. Some are more difficult than others. For now I am off to play another day or so.

Gamer Scores, and Trophies, and Big Daddies, OH MY!!!

This will be a semi rant, semi update, and just overall personal view on the world today. To start things off my brother and I have been playing on live more, if not playing we would talk through the headsets. Hey it bead long distance. During one of our conversations I mentioned I got 1000/1000 on Lego Indiana Jones. He congratulated me and also looked over my gamer card. He said he was amazed that my score went up considerably since he last looked at my card. We joked about being gamer score junkies. I told him sometimes I can be, because once I get done with a game I like to go through and try to unlock other achievements. Well now it seems that Sony is dong the trophy system in lieu of gamer points. That's fine by me; I really could care less if Sony does that to meet gamer needs. What irks me is I came across an article about the trophies, mainly the ones that are for BioShock on the PS3. The writer said the trophies that are available are the same as the achievements for the 360. "Is this a sign of things to come for the cross platform games" he asks. Well duh. Game companies like other companies want to maximize profit with minimal cost to them. Who cares if they are the same? This to me is a sign of a player who plays not for the game, but for the gamer score. It is amazing to me that the Playstation community is always up in arms on how Microsoft is stealing all of the exclusives and how much more advanced and better the PS3 is. That may be true on some level and sales for the PS3 may be better, I don't know I haven't checked. No one will be happy, ever! Right now people are up in arms about FFXIII coming to the 360. Hey great, saves me some cash. Then a day or so ago Soul Calibur IV came out. And people are already on the boards complaining about DLC. Hey play the game for the game, if you want the DLC then get it if not then don't. No one is putting a gun to your head and making you shell out the money for it.

Moving on, I have all but abandoned FFXI. I believe I may cancel my account, but can't bring myself to do it. I'll see what happens over the weekend. Right now I got BioShock from GameFly. I actually enjoy the game. It is a little creepy, but overall it seems a lot like Oblivion. As of now I am to the point where I am about to leave the Fisherman's Warf area. I took on a few Big Daddies, and saved some Little Sisters. I'm not that great at hacking yet but it is like the game pipe dream for the NES. So this will be taking up a good majority of my time. I will rotate my games I think. As much as FFXI is fun, I really hate looking for parties for hours. For now I'll deal with Rapture.

I also downloaded UNO from the market place. I figured it would be an easy simple game to just pop in and relax when I got bored. Turns out who ever programmed this made the AI the most cut throat players. I swear, they work against me and make every attempt to prevent me from winning. It's not even like the orange player is trying to win, it's like well let's not let me win. The AI will watch a AI player throw out a wild card call UNO and call blue. Then next AI throws out a blue card, the next one throws a blue skip card to skip me. Well the orange AI throws out. And I am like what in the heck just happened? Oh well, not much I can do about that. It still is fun, once you realize that you have to be as ruthless as possible to win a hand.

After the weekend I will write again about what has happened and any other ignorant articles I come across. Until next time.

Slowly moving up

Ok so my GameFly games come in. I rented Mass Effect and Kung Fu Panda (for the kiddies). I have heard a lot of good things about Mass Effect. So I drop the disc in and start playing. I know I am totally behind the times and should have played this a long time ago. Well deal with my tardiness then. It's kind of a 3rd person shooter. Now I played the initial levels and did some of the council investigations. However I grew bored with the game. It seemed to just drag on for me. So I stopped and came back a few days later to see if I would find some saving grace on it. No luck. So I dropped that back into the mail. I have BioShock on order now. Just need GF to receive the game. So I hope that BioShock keeps me a little more entertained. If not the, it goes back and I get a new one. I like that option.

I have gotten Black Mage up to level 10 on FFXI. Now I am sitting out in the Dunes looking for party. Hope to pick one up soon, I need this job for a subjob and I want to get leveling BLM over and done with. I want to take my WHM up. I will get off that high horse now since most of my posts are about wanting WHM up. So I hope to get in a few good PL parties so I can move on and start to complete Chains of Promathia missions. I think once I finish those I will retire my character. But that has yet to be determined. Maybe I'll work on Wings of the Goddess, and Rise of Zilart. Eh we shall see.

I've started back on Lost Odyssey. I forgot how fun it can be, so I may put forth more time on that game. I'm a little ways into disc 2 and working on getting everyone caught up on levels. Almost got everyone up to level 28 where the exp starts to be less rewarding. So I will make it to the next area and work on grinding again. The only reason I do this is because I hate to have boss fights that own me in a round or two. That is so frustrating. So I beef up and own. I usually play for the story which I love, so I do not feel bad about being over leveled for the boss. Well I will write more about BioShock when I get it in and play it a little bit.

Things are picking up

With FFXI slowly starting back up, I have decided to not burn myself out on that game. I seriously used to play that game every night. I was excited to play and even had a mild addiction to it. Then I ran into a problem, I would want to play and when I did, I found myself being bored. I soon found other games to keep me entertained. Well that is the purpose of videogames right? To keep us entertained. Now I returned to FF a few weeks ago and find myself slightly bored, that somewhat has to do with me having to level BLM up to 37. Now BLM is not my most favorite job, but I need it for my WHM and RDM sub. As soon as I get WHM and BLM to 37 I will stop leveling BLM. I want to take RDM up to 75 and merit it. Then I will work on raising WHM to 75 and DRK to 37. I will write about FF if I find anything to put. But I will slowly be moving forward with it. Actually I really just want to finish the CoP storyline and then quit.

I recently signed up for GameFly and so far I am pleased with it. I picked up Mass Effect as my first game. To my surprise, I am not having as much fun with ME as I thought I would. I feel better about not having shelled out the money for that title. I have a few other titles in my queue ready to go such as BioShock and Soul Caliber IV. Eh, we will see where that goes. But with E3 starting up, I am starting to actually look forward to games. Now when I was younger I used to just play only FF, Zelda, and maybe Metroid. If it wasn't one of those I figured it sucked. As of late I have gotten bored with RPG games. No I am not abandoning them; I just like a little variety. Now my library has about 10 games in it. My usual size was 4.

Now with E3 kicking off yesterday, they have made a few cool announcements. First, I am amazed that FFXIII is being released for the 360. It made my day, and not because it's one less exclusive for the PS3. It made my day because now I do not have to spend 400+ dollars for a system I probably will only play that game on. I am sure that I will have to purchase a PS3 because the kids will want to play an exclusive like FFvsXII and Kingdom Hearts 3. I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Now when I first heard of Mirror's Edge, it was described as Assassin's Creed in first person. I chuckled at the idea. Now that more information has been shown and released, it does look promising. I am actually looking forward to the game. I am kind of looking forward to Gears 2, I have the first one and I play it very casually. Ok, truth is I just made it to Act 2 in Co-Op, still stuck on the beserker on single player. Oh well.

I will put more up when I gets the chance. OUT.

Lukewarm return!!!

Ok, so my last few posts have been more of a rant than anything else. This will not be a rant more like an update on my games. My last real log in for FFXI was May 28th. So I decided to log in and do the June update so I don't have to sit through it when I really feel like playing. After the update I logged out and proceeded to play Lego Indiana Jones. I have to admit, I enjoy it far more than I did Star Wars. I never found using the force to do every puzzle much fun, if any at all. So I'm playing through and having a good time. Then a stupid idea came to me, one that came to me while I was playing through Assassin's Creed. Hey maybe I can go for the full 1000/1000 gamer score for this. Now I am about 78% unlocked so far, so I am fairly certain I could accomplish this. I wanted to do it with Assassin's Creed, but I got bored with it and only unlocked a little over 80%. So we will see with this one, I will report back with more.

My brother convinced me to pick up Army of Two. I have to admit I had fun playing co-op with him. I made a rather sad attempt at trying to play solo; I did not fare as well as I thought I would. The A.I. is not the brightest of them all. I would assume that when my partner would grab and drag me to cover to heal me he would know what cover is. But no, he decides to drag me out into the open and heal me. So now he is trying to heal me while catching bullets, man that is frustrating. So I strictly play that co-op with my brother. Since I did like the game play I picked up Gears of War. It's not as bad as I figured it would be. Right now I am stuck on the berserker portion, she keeps catching me. I'll keep at it and update when I pass it.

Ok, so I have returned to FFXI. After a decent amount of time away, I decide to return after a month. Now I know I said my last log in was the 28th of May, and by no means is really a month in any fashion. Correct, but I logged in to see if I could get that love back I once had. No dice. But yesterday I felt like logging in. I mean really felt like it, not one of those eh might as well since I'm forking out 13 bucks a month for it. I really wanted to do it. And I have decided to work on my Summoner and Bard. So I get in and send a shout out to the Linkshell(LS) and see who is on. I get a few hey welcome back and such but other than that a real lukewarm welcome. Now I did not expect a party or parade in my honor, but hey we missed you and such would have been nice. Now I have tried to participate in the events as much as my low leveled character is able to, but a lot of the events are geared at 60 plus levels. My highest level is 35 so we can see this issues with that.

Now for the real reason I have returned to FFXI. I want to finish Chains of Promathia. I don't know why but that is the only expansion I really care to finish. The other expansions I will consider because of LS events or friends wanting to go and do a mission or two. So my goal is to get my SMN up to 40 do those missions with either the LS or find another LS that do the missions regularly. I will ask for help with my LS first then look for outside help. So if anyone is reading on FF and the Ifrit server know a LS that is willing to assist me please leave a comment here for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Until next time, have fun with your games!

it's a 8, no a 10, no it's someone elses opinion!!!!

Originally I wanted to use my blog to provide who ever reads it a small amount of entertainment of my mad (lack) skills in gaming. However my last post was a rant, a rant about the exclusiveness of certain titles. I gave my point in that so I will not share it here. So I wanted to recap the past few weeks of gaming since my last post. However, I notice that some folks out there are just being really asinine about things.

So a few weeks before a game is release reviews usually creep up and are published or posted. And a lot of people including the developers have high hopes for a game, but it seems that some fans of series take offense to a review when it doesn't reflect what they feel is the correct review. And of course someone will post a thread going I can't believe that XXX game received 8 when this totally inferior and totally genre unrelated game YYY received a 10. Yes, I have been disappointed with some reviews on game I personally like. But we have to remember this is one person's opinion. I know reporters are supposed to be unbiased and report just the facts. Well I believe that we all put some sort of personal biased in anything we do. Yet, we have people complaining about how the person was looking for all the negatives in XXX game. It is quite possible. But come on, do you think that if a game gets a 8 instead of a 10 a person will be like well I want to get this game. Oh wait it only got an 8, so I think I will buy the one that received a 10 even though it's not even the same type of game. Come on people, if you believe that a reviewer is going to sway my decision on if I am going to buy a game or not, you would be wrong.

I believe if you really want to play a game, then you will try it regardless of the reviews. I have picked up games that received 9 and 10's and did not enjoy them. But picked up a 5 once and enjoyed it a lot. So let's stop being petty about stupid things such as review scores, buy or rent the game and judge the game yourself. Then you can put up your own review. Until you play the game how can you say that the game is golden or if it's a pile of trash? Until then you are just speculating on the overall game. I'm pretty sure most know what I am talking about, while others think I'm full of it. Well it's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Is it going to.......

First I do not claim to be a hardcore gamer. I could be nothing further from it. I average maybe 12 hours a week play time. I'm sure people get more in. Now that the disclaimer is done about my level of gaming, let's move on to the real reason for this. I tend to be more of a forum lurker than a poster. I post on occasion with a question or witty remark. But the one thing I have notice about some forums are the continuous bashing or complaining amongst fellow gamer. Sure some people deserved to be flamed, while other are just caught in the crossfire. The real reason for this is the whole, "This game should/Is this game coming to XXX system?" question.

The best example is Metal Gear 4. Some people post asking will it come to the 360 or not. And as soon as that is posted people respond with how crappy the 360 is and that he should be happy with Halo. Let us PS3 owners have ours type of mentality. Also it's the "I want to see the PS3 fail mentality". I personally own a 360. I enjoy it. I also love the Metal Gear series. Do I want to see the game come to the 360? Meh, I could care less if it does. I am tired to seeing the "this technology is better than that one". Who cares? Well obviously they do. Yeah a lot of exclusives ended up going multi-platform, and I guess they did real well. But I don't understand why people want Metal Gear to go multi-platform. I can agree that the PS3 is pretty high priced. But, you know I may have to scrounge the money up and go purchase one to play it. The same with Final Fantasy XIII.

I know this is not going to stop people from posting that asinine topic anymore, but I feel that the 360 needs some good competition. To me this will allow both consoles to put forth their best titles instead of some cut rate titles. So there coming from a 360 owner, I hope MGS4 stays an exclusive. Thanks for listening!

Forgotten Games

Welcome to another fun entry into my mundane life. I am pretty sure no one reads these, but I'll post any way just in case. HA! This weekend is a little different from the last post. I did start off with FFXI and ended up playing a slew of other games instead. I have this weird tendency to get bored with FF and want something more. So yeah with a game that move forward even when I am not on, one can get frustrated when you get left behind. Also, when fellow LS members are so far ahead of you. Yeah it can be discouraging at times.

Moving along, I did start up FF and I was trying to make my way to the Dunes to level up my WAR. I ended up getting distracted and not being able to put anything towards the game. So I decided to quit for the evening. But I decided to sit and just play all day on Saturday. After my daily goings ons and such I get to sit down and play. I stared at the dashboard of the 360 for a few moments. Hmm what do I want to do? Lost Odyssey has been going real well; also I haven't touched Eternal Sonata in a while. Well isn't this a problem. On the dashboard I notice that there is downloadable content for LO. So I download it, but for reasons unbeknownst to me it is taking forever. So I decide to clean up my HDD. I delete some unused gamer pics that I know I will never use, along with some themes that in my opinion are garbage. Then I go clean out the demos that I downloaded. I moved to my arcade games. Wow I totally forgot I had Hexic HD, Hexic 2, Bejeweled 2, Triggerheart Excela.

Now I have unlocked a little more than half of the achievements in Hexic HD. Now I am not bragging about that, I am sure most people don't even care about that game. But I like it and I really wanted to unlock the score 150k in marathon mode achievement. I have come so close to it just to have a bomb end my game. This evening was my evening. I played and actually surpassed 150k! I unlocked the achievement. Yay me! Next I moved on to Hexic 2. It's a little different from the first one, and I really did not unlock much. Well I felt good and decided to unlock at least one achievement. I played through a few rounds, solo and against the computer. I got about 3 more achievements!!! Go me huh? I am sure you're thinking to yourself, I must be an achievement junkie. Well to a point yes, however my paltry 2,255 really doesn't say that I go out of my way to get points. I just enjoy unlocking the ones on the games I own. Then I moved on to Triggerheart, now I really don't understand what I need to do to unlock some of these, but I wanted to at least finish the game. So I finally finish it! It may be a while before I go back to that one. Hexic 2 I have a few more to unlock and I will be content. Then I played LO for a little bit. I just ran around and leveled up my characters and learned some skills before I called it a night. Sunday I did not play.

Yeah, I didn't play FF at all. I must have burned myself out leveling my jobs. And I need to reach 40 before I can move forward with outstanding missions. Now they announced a new anniversary ring for this year. It gives you double exp, but you can only use it ten times. I still have 3 charges left on mine, so I am going to jump over to my BLM and level that quickly. Need to burn those charges before I can obtain a new ring for this year. So that is my plan this week. Hope to have a good run with my BLM, and then I can work more on my WHM to sub for my RDM. Well that is all for now. Til next time!

Good Weekend Bad Players

I had a great weekend on Final Fantasy XI! Seriously. I have been stuck at level 31 with my Red Mage and White mage for months now. Real slow invites or fake one. I have gotten so many ? I say yeah sure. And by the time i get out to the meeting point I get the now infamous, "Sorry we're full, maybe next time." Now this is not why I am ranting right now, just letting you know the frustration that I have had the past month. Now this weekend I am up in Jeuno looking to adjust some of my gear and create a few gear swap macros just incase I get a real invite. As I am running around I get a /tell for a party. They asked if I would mind being main healer as a RDM/WHM. I'm ok with that. So we all meet up at our rally point and meet at the Citadel.

The party make up is NIN/WAR, MNK/NIN, BLM/WHM, THF/NIN, DRK/WAR, RDM/WHM (me). Now it may not be the perfect set up but it seems to work. As we start rolling things get a little hairy. But we do pretty well. Then for whatever reason the THF starts to complain about not being able to SATA. Now I have not leveled THF at all, and I do not claim to know what the big deal about SATA is. All I know is that it does massive damage and puts hate on to whomever is in front of the THF. In a perfect world that would be great, the tank never losing hate. That means I can kinda go out and cure more and the BLM can nuke her heart out! But our NIN was having some trouble holding hate so it tended to bounce around. So the mob was coming for me or the BLM at times. So there was alot of movement. So after a battle i notify the party what my MP is so they can pull or rest accordingly. Well our THF decides to tell me if they could do thier job and SATA I'd have more MP. Once again I don't understand how, but ok. Well needless to say as the battle ensue, our screen gets spammed with complaints and gripes about SATA. So we boot her and replace her with another RDM to help with healing and enfeebling.

Well our DRK decides to pull and grabs alot of hate and becomes a MP sponge. I have partied with this DRK before, they claimed to have never died once in the game. So what do they do when things go downhill the run away and tell the mages to take hate so she can escape. Now last I checked it was us mages who had raise and the cure spells to keep them alive. So i kindly say don't worry I will keep everyone alive. They actually listened to reason, but they decided to quit when the screwed up and fell down a pit and died. Meh oh well. We get a SMN to take her place.

Now that wasn't really that bad. Minor complaints. But remember we have another RDM/BLM in the party. So I think to myself, This person must be totally geared to be a enfeebling machine right? Well upon a check of their equip, I was wrong. I have to gear set ups. One that maxes MND to help with healing and buffs and a INT that helps land my nukes and enfeebs. Now, I am not saying everyone must carry two set ups do do their job right. It would be nice to see players grab gear that enhances some aspects of their job. I really do not want to see a WHM with a full attk and str set up in my party. The other RDM we had had not one piece of +int gear. Her spells were 90% resisted and if the did stick they didn't really do much or wore way too quick. I asked why they had just basics on. They said they didn't have the gil to buy good gear. Now the basic +int and +mind gear is fairly affordable with some farming. They told me that they didn't care, as long as they get invites they would be fine. So I ended up being a healer and enfeebler. Another thing is having +mp gear as well. She was a level higher than me and was sitting at 260 mp. Where i was sitting at 352 mp with +18 to MND (+10 INT with gear swap).

Now the party did move very smoothly. Given our RDM seemed to be a leech I did make it to 35 (almost 36). It was one of the best parties that I have had in a long time. Considering the stagnant period I had. One person brought a PL for us, but we did not use them they just hung around to take care of any links. Then tele taxi'd us out. We averaged 150xp per kill and some were about 224. Didn't get alot of skill ups that I would have liked, but hey I am not complaining about that.

Also a few RL friends got together and completed mission 3-3. We trio'd that. At first I was a little worried we would get owned. This was because I thought the NM was a lvl 45. Turns out he was a 36, so we ended up owning him. Got our rank 4. Now I just need to level some more and then complete a few more quests and finish up rank 4!

I will post more as I play more.

Yeah, about that

Blogs. Never done one. But hey I guess it's a good place to rant and complain about idiots and hope those people don't read your blog. HA! Oh well this is the first one I'll report back with morons and stupidity later.
