I'm thinking about getting a new 120hz TV but some people seem to think they lag at 120hz. I guess I can switch off the 120hz, but what's the point of the 120hz then.

So, do 120hz TV lag at all? BTW, I don't want to debate whether or not 120hz TVs are actually better, just whethere there is a lag on the screen when you make a move or press a button.

I'm using the HDMI out on my laptop.

I loaded the drivers so the monitor does show up in the device manager as the correct viewsonic monitor, not generic PnP. But even if I go to all the way down to 800X600, all I can choose is 60 hz. Which is weird because when my old LCD is hooked up, I can go up to 75 or 85.

My laptop has a GT 2260 I think. When I have it hooked it up to my other LCD, it gives me the option up to 85hz. But with this one, there are no other options other than 59 and 60. It's being seen as the right monitor, but I have no option in the control panel.

You could have a bad monitor. If you knew anything about how LCDs work you would know they don't flicker and you're just imagining things.

My Dell monitor at work constantly waves, but that's only because it's cheap pos.

I didn't want to mention that because people accuse you of being of crazy or imagining things. Trust me, I would love to use a nice big LCD but they kill my eyes. I've bought every brand and type you can think of. Phones do the same thing, as do flourecent lights. Devices with OLEDs don't bother me though.

Trust me, certain people do pick up the refresh rate. The screen is in fact flashing, the pixels are not being redrawn, but the source is still flashing and certain people pick it up. Do some actual research beyond a quick Google search and you will see that certain people do pick up the flashing.

But that's not the point. I'm curious as to how to force a higher refresh rate in Windows 7.

True, but the action is smoother though at 120hz compared to 60hz, or so is the claim.

Personally, my eyes are very sensitive and I can't use a 60hz screen for more than ten minutes. I know, everyone says LCDs don't flicker but they do. Only certain people pick it up.

So I was hoping I could set this up at 120hz and use it as a regular monitor, but it doesn't give the option. Oh well, back to the CRT.

So, I bought the Viewsonic 120hz 22" monitor but when I hook it up, all I get in Windows 7 is the option of 60 hz. No way to run it higher.

I actually want this for my regular monitor and need it to run at 120 hz, or at least 75hz for a specific application.

Nobody seems to have any answer on this and searches on Google don't show anything.

My old Viewsonic monitor I can run at 75hz and have the option to go to 85hz. I should get at least that with this one.

Anybody know how to get the option for a higher refresh or force it? Thanks

I'll have to check out a few of these suggestions next time I'm at GameStop.

BTW, I saw Mass Effect for $13. At that price that game is an incredible bargain. That game really pulled me in. I like RPGs but most are all fantasy based with magic spells and such which I'm not a huge fan of so it's good to find a sci fi RPG.

I think the games are just getting too complex production wise to stay in line with expected release dates. The industry still wants to keep the old turn around times between versions but the games take longer and longer to make. The bigger maps, more and more textures on everything, it just takes more time.

Either you will have to wait longer for games (studios lose money, miss the holiday season, etc) or consumers have to deal with rushed games. I don't see a fix really.

I think COD4 and COD5 did it right by at least using two studios working at the same time, one on a re-skin and one on the full new version. It's not perfect but it seems like a good compromise.

I've been posting a bit on the GTA4 board about installing the game to the HDD and it running very poorly. So poorly that when driving fast, the whole city in front of me just turns grey because the game can't keep up. It runs fine from the disk.

Yet other people who have it installed say there are no problems so it seems as though different HDDs for the 360 have different performance specs but none are listed anywhere.

My question is, does anyone know which drives are better? Are the 120gig drives faster. Someone suggested they have a bigger cache and work better but I don't want to buy one until I know I'll get a good one.

Any thoughts?
