ruin the game.... games are ment to challenge, without a timer, there would be no way to fail... making it an utterly pointless game... at least with the timer you are pushed to act quick
However, it seems like regardless if it's a smaller HDD then the ones usually found in desktop PC's it seems it has the same SATA and SATA power hookups, so therefore if you have an extra SATA cable, power hookup and a motherboard that supports such a thing, it seem possible, however i do not know how it is going to work with the file transfer, I would suggest if you try this do it as soon as you get your new PS3, therefore if you manage to hook it up and transfer you files it might still ask you to format your new HDD... it does however have a chance of working... Good Luck.... i'll probably try this soon.
I just thought however, you may be able to hook up your old HDD and transfer all the files to a jump drive... therefore never involving you new HDD and then transfer it all that way....
