If I only have a TV that supports 720p,does the PS3 downgrade the image for Blu-Ray movies and games to 480p? I should tell you that I own a 360 and the HD-DVD add-on and love them both, and that I am not trying to troll or anything, I just remember a while ago hearing something about it. I am considering purchasing a PS3 so I can play the great exclusive games it has to offer, as well as the Blu-Ray movies that I cannot get for my HD-DVD drive. I really do not want to go out and buy a 1080p TV just for the PS3. I realize that my HD-DVD movies could look "better" if I did have 1080p, but they look good enough for me now. Would the Blu-Ray movies and games look just as good even though I only have a 720p TV? Thanks.

There is no HDTV out there that only supports 720p and not 1080i.

Your HDTV has a native resolution of 720p. It doesn't matter what your source is (game or movie) what your looking at is always 720p..

For BD movies set your PS3 to 1080i, for games set your PS3 to 720p..

My HDTV is 1366x768, but it accepts a 1080p signal via HDMI. So i have my PS3 set to 1080p for movies, and i manualley set it back to 720pif im going to play a game that only accepts 720p.

I dont think so, but I dont know of any games the support 720p and not 1080i at the same time. The progressive just looks sharper to me.notoriousmatty

I think the PS3 is going down to $399 this fall for an 80 gb and the 20 gb will be $299. PS3 is supposed to be the cheapest blu ray player and the sony blu ray player price dropped to $499.

Umm, the 20GB PS3 does not even exist anymore..

And Sony is already losing around $200 per PS3 sold, i doubt they want to make that a $400 loss per PS3 sold

Well then i suggest you wait, currently the only fighting game for PS3 is VF5, the only racing game is Motorstorm, and the only Action/Adventure / Adventure is Genji (which sucks btw)

so ur basing ur bets on past ports like FEAR? but u dont know, do u? also, i dont think a game with 16 new maps and lot of extra features will be getting a worse score, fanboy. that just doesnt make any since. the only reason it would be a little worse is if it had horrible lag and freezing, which i really doubt because i dont think they would put that much extra features if it lagged alot and froze.
