Two Years on GameSpot!!

Yup, today I completed two whole years at GameSpot and its been a fine journey!! I still remember the time when agefreak, my best friend in the whole wide world, told me about the GameSpot Forums. In addition to being a great friend he's also the person I'll trust the most when it comes to games, and, in fact, anything even remotely related to gaming!! :D

My start at GameSpot was essentially modest as, with a 56k dialup, I really couldn't have done much!! I started out as a regular poster at the Age of Empires and Warcraft Forums and had a lot of fun initially. But that activity soon became a bit mundane and even though I could do much more now that I had a DSL, I started to lose my interest in GameSpot. :(

Then came the GameSpot Unions and that gave me a strong reason to stay back at GameSpot as I enjoyed the feeling of helping a community to grow. I was soon appointed an Officer at the True Gaming Union by gamer_girl15 and along with a couple of other officers we created a nice and clean community very soon!! She actually made me an Officer based on nothing but trust in me as a friend and I thank her for that!! :)

But what really gave a boost to my activity levels here at GameSpot was my decision to join the Age of Empires Union. Almost instantly, I found what I'd been looking for: A clean, spam-free, flame-free community dedicated to the entire Age Series!! _Sam_, the Leader of the AoEU, and Matthew229, an Officer (and probably the most artistic person I've come accross at GS), soon became really good friends of mine and only in a short while, I was appointed an Officer at the AoEU as well (Thanks for the trust you've had in me Sam!!). :) After the appointment of zebesian, another dedicated Officer, we soon created a community which became the #1 AoE Source on GameSpot!! With the appointment of several other officers like ThaNemesis & DarkBelthasar, we soon became the No. 1 RTS discussion community here as well!! With contributions from dedicated members like DarknessofFate1, BladeMaster75, kriz_91 and many others we're still maintaing our Strong position!! :)

In addition to the AoEUnion, my interactions with some of the other members at GameSpot has also been great. _Eradicator_ (the able Leader of the SuperHeroes Union), TheSlanger (an Officer at the True Gaming Union) and Marcinkonys have all been great friends!! :) I thank them all for their support!! :D

All in all, it has been a pleasure to be a memeber of this great community!! It has its glitches, but its great anyways!! :P I hope I can continue my good run at GameSpot for many more years!! :D

My exams (yup I'm at it again) start from the 15th of May and will continue on till the 2nd of June. Following that, I'll have a Two Month break from College!! That'll give me some more time for GameSpotting!! In hindsight, I'll probably miss the whole of GameSpot's E3 coverage. Anyways, there's always the Official DVD Set!! :)

My Birthday!!

Today, I celebrate my 19th Birthday. One year of adulthood completed!!! The last year, full of exams to get into college, tonnes of college-work and the prospect of making my image in a new institute was full of the usual ups and down and now I find myself completely settled into college life with a good enough grip on my future plans.

Just last month, I got my exams results for the First Semester and I got the coveted 85.33% that proppelled me to the Top 50 Students league of our University (They don't give out the exact position though)!!

I also participated in and organized a couple of inter - college competitions this year which included the most successful gaming competition our college had ever seen!! I even managed to get to the Top 5 of a Tech Quiz competition that saw a lot of hardcore participation!!

All in all Last year turned out be just fine!! Hope this year turns out to be good as well!! :)

The Current Gosu of AoE III

One look at his Profile should convince you of this guy's unmatched domination of the AoE 3 ladders. The RTS Gaming Legend iamgrunt (aka grunt, wargrunt, wargrunt_kr etc.) who successfully represented South Korea in the WCG AoE 2 Tourney is now seriously getting his act together in the third installment of the Age Series........... and with a 96% Win Percent, he means SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!

Check out his Profile.

The only person giving this guy some sort of competition is StarSky. Here's a Link to a page from where you can get a recorded game of the two giants facing off against each other. A must watch I must say!!! No prizes for guessing who won tho....... ;)

Sweet Victory

Although this happened way back in 2004 (October-end to be precise; I was a senior in High School), I'd still like to share the most Important gaming victory of my life (so far):

Date: October 30th, 2004
Event: A TechFest named EXUN (Experts Unlimited) organized by one of the most reputed schools in New Delhi

Well, being the President of the Computer Club of my school, I was the Student Leader of the team that went to participate in the Fest. There were numerous events like: Programming, quizzing and of course the biggest draw: Gaming! I was participating in the Debugging Event and as is evident in the Gaming Zone Event. The games had been kept confidential, so being a good all-round gamer, I was representing me school. It was to be held in 2 stages:

Prelims: 6 Pools with 6 players each. Winner from each group to proceed. Game:???
Finals: A 6 player FFA. Game: ???

Our school had been completely wiped out till the time the Gaming Prelims arrived. We hadn't managed to qualify in the Quiz and Programming events and our Group Discussion team had some unexpectedly stiff competition and couldn't manage a position either. I had been placed 4th (from among 25 particiapants) in the Debugging event. It was good, but not good enough to get our team any points. Getting points in an event as big as EXUN is especially hard stuff cause you're up against the top students from the entire state. So, as the leader of my team and as the one of the two members with an event remaining in hand, it was up to me to get a few points for our school and atleast take it to the top 10.

And then the game for the prelims was announced: Unreal Tournament!

I was overjoyed and ecstatic! If we were vying for the top 10 spot, this was the best chance we had cause I am really good at FPS's and especially Unreal Tourney!! I was in Pool 1 and was up against some decent competition. One among the 5 guys I was playing against was really very well versed with the game.

Well, the game (6 player FFA) took place in Orions Barricade, and the objective was to get to 30 frags. I got there in about 7 minutes and won. My nearest competitor had 23. It felt really great to make it to the Finals and when I went to discuss the outcome with my team I found out that we had qualified in the Software Display Event. Things were beggining to look good!

Date: October 31th, 2004
Event: EXUN: Finals

Well, we crashed out of Software Display really badly (we came sixth, or in other words last). So it was down to the Last event of the day: Gaming Zone Finals.

The Game turned out ot be Age of Empires II: The Conquerors expansion. By far one of my favourite games and from a genre of my strength: RTS. The competition this time was daunting! I was up against the winners of the previous round and although the genre was different, none of them was gonna be a pushover.

The game mode was Regicide (Kill your enemy's King). I picked the Japanese (it was the Islands Map) and started out well and eliminated one of the better players when he wasn't paying much attention to the Western side of his base. The game carried on and I eliminated two other players. It was now a three player event. The other two guys had sensed my water-superiority and began booming their scores to get a score victory if the time went beyond regulation. But I pressed on and eliminated one of them while the other one didn't give up. The game ended after Time was called and I was declared the victor (by Score). I recieved 21 points for my team and we finished 8th in the final tally (out of about 40 schools that had participated).

Here's a link to Prove the Story! :D (My name is: Lov Loothra (which has been mis-splelt in the web page as Lov Luthra), School's Name: Apeejay School, Saket):http://www.exunclan.com/results.htm
