Some basics, I guess: Each time you "meet" a new crystal you get a number of new jobs. The top job level is 99. Each job has its own advantages (too many to mention) At a low job level, you don't inflict much damage with your weapons, but at high levels, you can get multiple hits on enemies and deal great damage. Job leveling is effected by how many turns you take in battle. If you take multiple turns in a battle, you'll have a higher chance of gaining a new level for your job.
Easy way to level up: Continuously guard on your lowest damage-dealing enemies (guess that would be goblins), the guarding will count as turns taken. Do maybe five guards with each character each battle, and you'll most likely gain a new job level. At higher levels, say 67, it has seemed to me that you must take more turns
