Story Time ! + How Well do you Know Me?

Story Time!

So you may remember a few blogs ago I told you all about two of my friends on here that i wanted you all to meat. Well I just wanted to tell you all the ax23000 has started his new story, and now would be the perfect time to start reading it so that you don't fall behind. This time around his story looks to be more serious and adventuresome than his last one, but i believe that it will be just as great. :) So yah he posts new chapters to his stories usually on Fridays, so check out last weeks and here's the link for all you lazy people :P http://www.gamespot.com/users/ax23000/

Top Ten NES Games #3 + My First Sig

Kirby's Adventure

Though many of the subsequent games in the Kirby series have failed to evolve, the first game was one of the few NES platformers bold enough to change up the usual run and jump game play of the era. A few of the things that helped set it apart from the pack was the ability to fly/ float at will, and most famously Kirby's ability to "eat" his enemy's then either copy their powers or use their body as weapon by spiting them back out at other enemies. This combined with the charming and colorful graphics made Kirby's Adventure a unique, fun, and fresh game to play though. About the only thing this game could be faulted for is some will say that it's too easy, or can be beaten too fast. That how ever is an inaccurate accusation since the length of the game is just as large as many other NES games, and only feels short because of the save feature (a rarity of the time).

==================================

This is my first time ever using GIMP or any photo editor, so i'm really proud with how it turned out :D But yah I made this for a competition in one of the unions i'm in, and even though it dosn't look i'm going to win i'm still couldn't be happier with my sig. Oh and here is the original image I made it from.

===================================

Sorry for the three parts to this blog, but I'm going to start putting a song in each of my blogs to show every one some of the music I like. I'm going to try and stay away from some of my more common bands like Linkin Park and Papa Roch though since most people have heard them all ready.

Todays pick is from a band called Slick Shoes and the song title is Now's the Time. Hope you like it :D

Friends List Awards!

Well for my 50th blog I couldn't think of any thing better than to give out a few fake and worthless awards  . So put on your best suit or dress, take a glamorous walk down the red carpet, and think quick because you will need to make acceptance speeches *evil laugh*  .

Dynamic Duo/ Rhen_Var and kid_ranqu - These two seem close...reeeeaaallly close ;) J/K :P

Super Villian/ Earththatwas - Sure his only power is the ability to destroy electronics (mostly his own -_-). But hey, do you have super powers? No I didn't think so.

Food Junkie/ RasenganX - Sorry dude didn't know what award to give you, and you had a bunch of pics of food on your blog...so yah you brought this on your self

Well that concludes the show. If you didn't get an award I'm sorry, but not every one can be special  that's such a mean thing to say :P. Any ways I'll probably do this again once I get to 100 blogs, so your time may come then :) .

Top Ten NES Games #4 (Tie!!!)

Little Samson

This tragically is one of the most over looked games of the NES generation mostly due to poor planning and a complete lack of advertisement on Taito's part. The game came out in 1992, well into the life span of the Genesis and SNES (which is yet another reason few have played this gem), and it was supposed to be Taito's grand entrance into the platforming genera.

At the start of the game you must chose between four levels (just like in many Mega Man games), the difference is in each of the levels you play as a unique character. They were Samson who could climb on walls and throw his magical bells, Kikira who could fly and breath fire, Gamm who was slow but had the most health of the bunch, and K.O. who was the weakest of the bunch but could climb walls and lay bombs. After you beat the four beginning levels our heroes join up and you were allowed to switch between them on command, which added a layer of strategy for how to best get through each level. All of these elements plus great music, detailed graphics, and epic boss battles set this one apart from so many other NES games.

Punch Out!

Man this was a fun game! You really felt like you were the little guy going up against some real pros. Not many games could do that back then. Whether you just had to beat the snot out of some washed up looser or you had to carefully block the rapped punches of a veteran, there was all ways a trick to beating your opponent. The real problem was figuring out what their weakness was. And Once you finally did work your way high enough, you were rewarded with a fight against the man himself, Mike Tyson (unless you got the re-release with the "family safe" Mr. Dream). I have to tell you, nothing is as frightening as staring down Tyson and knowing that if you died you had to start all over from beginning since you were too dumb to copy down the save codes (god I hated those things).

5 More Things/ Give Them a Chance

Well I really wanted to make my number 4 in my top ten list but I'm having a lot of trouble writing it right now :x So I just decided to humor the other two people who just tagged me (why is this game still going on :? ).

5 More Things

1. My younger brother and I have a 14 year age gap between us

2. I have really small hands :( ..... and I've all ways wanted to be able to palm a basketball.

3. I have all ready owned three cars so far. My first car was a brown 1990 Ford Taurus station wagon (all four engion mounts cracked, transmission failed, and many many more things went wrong with it) , my second was a white 2000 Chevy Venture (I was hit in the drivers side door by a speeding car, van was totaled, I was fine), and the car I have now is a silver 2000 Chrysler LHS.

(note these pics are of the same model as the cars i had, but are not the exact same ones i had)

4. I had my first full time job when I was 14. I sold books door to door...it sucked.

5. I once accidental stapled my finger when i was holding a stapler. It went all the way though, and when I pulled it out the wound bled from both sides. I thought it was kinda cool :D

Give Them a Chance

Some how I know that this isn't going to be any were near as articulate as I want it to be, but I'm going to give it a shot any ways. Since I've joined this site I've come across a lot of great people. I've made a lot of friends, and each and every one of them is cool in their own way. So it really bothers me when some of them just don't get the attention I think they deserve. It reminds me of high school all over again :?. I guess what I'm trying to do right now is introduce you all to two of my friends who could use some more exposure.

The first guy I want to introduce you all to is ax23000. This guy is one of the funniest dudes on the site. He all so has my favorite blog out of all of my friends. I will literally drop any thing I'm doing and read his blog when ever he up dates it. Latly he has been writing a hilarious story which he'll soon be wrapping up in a few days. After that He'll be starting a brand new story that i can only imagine will be just as epic as his last one. Basically now is a really good time to start reading his blog, and if your up for it all his older blogs are full of win and are more than worth reading ;) http://www.gamespot.com/users/ax23000/

The next and final friend I'll introduce tonight is Tobli. Those of you in anime unions have probably seen him around at some point. This guy is a really awesome friend and knows more about anime than I could ever hope to learn. He's basically like chaosmakerx but with out all the sig making :P (sorry chaos I had to take that shot at you :) ). But yah, Tobli has been one of my best friends on this site and any one looking to add a cool friend should defiantly check him out 8). http://www.gamespot.com/users/_Tobli_/

I hope none of you feel left out, but it has been bothering me for quite some time that no one seems to know about these two guys that I just had to say some thing. So please give these guys a chance, you won't regret it. :)

Ten Parenting Tips Regarding Video Games

First off i want to start by giving credit to telegraph.co.uk for posting this surprisingly useful and level headed parenting guide, good job :). This guide was put together by Dr. Tanya Byron who is known for working on such BBC programmes as The House of Tiny Tearaways, and she is a clinical psychologist as well. So without further ado here is her guide.

1) Don't panic...

Technology has never moved at a faster pace, so it's inevitable that children are increasingly playing more sophisticated games than their parents ever did, and using the internet much more effectively. But the most important thing to remember is that the web is a powerful tool that is best used for entertainment and education: there's no need to treat time spent on it, or playing video games, with suspicion.

2)...but be practical

Of course, there are dangers online just as there are at home or in real life. Make sure you know where children are going online, just as you would make sure you know who they're playing with. Ask what websites they're visiting, what their appeal is, and why they like the video games they play. Make sure the computer or console is in a public place, such as the living room or kitchen, so you can see what's going on. This will reduce the temptation for young people to shut the door on the pleasures of the real world, too. And you might even consider Jacqueline Wilson's novel Girl in Tears as a starting point for talking about computers with your children.

3) Encourage the effective use of technology...

It's now almost universally accepted that the use of computers and even video games is beneficial to a child's development. Not only will they need to know how to use technology when they're older, but they can also offer a relatively safe opportunity to develop coordination and even meet new people. Pilot schemes in schools have used iPods and Nintendo DSs, so it could be worth talking to teachers about what they're already using in your child's school.

4)...but make sure you understand it

Some video games teach children important skills, from cooperation to patience, but others really are just about gorily blowing other people's heads off. The more you understand about which games your child uses, the more you'll be able to guide their choices. If they want to join a social network to talk to their friends, try steering them towards specifically child-friendly ones such as clubpenguin.com or the BBC's online game Adventure Rock, and away from, say, Facebook or Myspace, where anyone can join.

5) Use built-in parental controls

Almost all internet browsers now have effective parental controls; Microsoft's Xbox 360 lets you play games over the web or a network, but if you're worried about the vagaries of the internet or stranger danger online, these features can easily be disabled.

6) Investigate special protective software

Several manufacturers sell software that is designed to limit what can be done on a computer. Cyberpatrol.com offers you the chance to limit time and type of web access, for instance, and an awful lot more too. McAfee and Norton make equivalent versions, too, but be aware that the walled garden approach can always be circumvented by using another computer, so the investment might not prove worthwhile.

7) Don't forget the mobile phone

The latest watches - never mind mobile phones - have more computing power than was used in getting Neil Armstrong to the Moon. Phones are increasingly able to access the internet, take high-quality videos and pictures and play music. And although the biggest risk remains that it will get lost or stolen, it's always worth remembering that many children are bullied by text messages or phone calls, too. Try to encourage responsible use, just as you would with a PC.

8 ) Protect your child's online identity

Adults should know by now that signing up to a website usually involves a choice about how much personal data you want to give out, and how much you want to make public. Try to explain to your children, too, that they can use pseudonyms, and that they shouldn't ever tell strangers they meet online too much about themselves.

9) Remember that there is real danger out there

There's been a huge amount of media coverage of a small number of incidents of young people being 'groomed' online by people who have subsequently ended up in prison. Much of the internet offers anonymity which makes such criminal activity more possible. If you think that something really is amiss, talk first to your children, but don't dismiss as harmless behaviour online that would be really suspicious in person.

10) And finally: be realistic

Remember that prohibition simply won't work. Your children will use computers and games consoles, even if it's at school or at friends' houses. If you understand what's worthwhile, what's harmful and how to balance risks, both you and your children will be able to get a lot more out of the web.

I've been tagged + minor friends list clear out

Well I've been tagged so now I'm supposed to tell you all five things about me that you might not know.

1. My favorite none anime TV shows are Heroes, Dexter, and any thing on the History channel.

2. I like to read books, and my favorite is Fahrenheit 451.

3. I work at two video game stores, and hope to own a shop of my own some day.

4. I was a gamefaqs user before I came here.

5. I think that Super Smash Bros. Brawl is over rated, but still a fun game (i'm going to get flamed for that one -_-).

Now I'm going to tag Latte, murat, earth thatwas, allmybase, and ax23000. Sorry guys ( and girl) but now you have to make a blog telling every one five things they may not know about you :D

Minor Friends List Clear Out Warning

Most of you don't need to worry about this, but I can't help but feel that my friends list has gotten a little cluttered and I don't even know some of the people on there :? Also I like to try and post on all of my friends blogs and that's been getting harder as my list has gotten bigger. So I've all ready taken some people off of my friends list, and I'm going to take a few more off as well. If you want to be put back in just say something and I will most likely add you again since the main reason I took most of the people off is because i thought they wouldn't care.

Top Ten NES Games #5

Marble Madness

Yes I know that this was an arcade game first, but I've never been good at using track balls so that's why I like the NES version better (fair warning though, it takes about 30 minutes or more to get used the the controls on the NES). Marble Madness was a game unlike any before it when it was first released 1984. You started at the top of a maze like level and had to carefully work your way down to the goal. On the way you had to watch out for and deal with all kinds of obstacles and traps, but the real enemy was the level it self. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten so close to the goal only to fall off the a ledge and then run out of time. Still the game was fun and addictive.

The graphics were good when the game first came out, but the sound was truly amazing. The songs and sound effects were all good and memorable, but it was the fact that this was the first game to have true stereo sound that made it so remarkable. Yet another thing that makes this game unique.

Well now you know were games like Marble Blast Ultra (360 arcade), Kororinpa (Wii), and Super Monkey Ball (NGC) all got their inspiration from.

(Double Blog) Top Ten NES Games #6/ Microsoft Fixes Mistake

Crystalis

Crystalis was one of those games that felt ahead of it's time. It blended game play elements from such genera's as action, adventure, and RPG, and it did it brilliantly. The world was presented though a top down perspective much like in the early Zelda games, and there are many different areas to find and explore. The game played much like Zelda in that you walked around and slashed you sword to attack enemy's, it incorporates RPG elements like HP, MP, EXP, and leveling up. This makes for a fun and engaging game play that other RPGs were lacking at the time. Though it's game play isn't any were as original as it once was, and it may not of aged as well as some other NES games, Crystalis is still a cl@$$ic and fun to play.

Microsoft Fixes Mistake

Well Microsoft has finally gotten around to making amends to Nathaniel for erasing the signatures on his 360 (see my two previous blogs if you don't know any thing about the story). The funny thing is he never even seemed mad about the entire incident, he didn't even ask MS to repay him in any way for the mistake they made. All that he wanted was to make sure that some thing like this would never happen to some one else again. Here's the letter he wrote about the whole incident.

" While my story has come to what I am sure the average reader will conclude is a satisfactory close, I do not personally view this as its ultimate end. Don't get me wrong: My overall mood about the packages I have received from Bungie and Microsoft is nothing short of ecstatic, but compensation was never my focus. The only thing I have specifically asked of Microsoft and the Xbox 360 team for is this particular case to be examined so that some change(s), whether small or broad, can be made to the service process to prevent the occurrence of any similar scenario. This remains my only request. I'm not asking for details, but if my story is leading to changes that should benefit current and future Xbox 360 owners, I would really like to know.

I do not think the people at Microsoft that have been working diligently on the XBox 360 project over the last several years are fools. There have been many lessons to be learned for all that have worked on the project at all levels, from the inception of the console until now. I am confident that this story-and the subsequent response that it has received from the gaming community as a whole-will reinforce the importance of keeping customer service and repair divisions well organized and in top form.

To those who have worked to put this package together for me, you have my gratitude. Thank you all for putting forth the time and effort to do this for me; this is indeed far "more awesome" than what I had before.

This story has shown itself to be a great lesson in the power of the Internet. It is with this observation that I must say to the gaming community at large, those who've shown their support and saved me much of the effort of spreading my story myself, you also have my gratitude. Without the actions of a great number of individuals who will forever remain unknown to me, my "cautionary tale" would not have reached nearly as many people. Thank you."

I really think this guy should be nominated for sainthood or some thing  Here's the pics of his new 360.
