Lol...exactly where I was looking...are you a member on the forums over there?
Absolutely with the 2900, not so much with the 4870; for a starter it's on a smaller die than Nvidia's offerings, and as a result ought actually be more efficient...
More or less; I wouldn't use it without dual booting with something else though, as it's obviously not totally reliable, being a beta and all!
I am in the UK...a GTX260 is midway between the price of 1GB 4870 and a 4890, making them pretty even on that front. You can, though, get a 512mb 4850 for under £75 now, and a 512mb 4870 for under £100...Nvidia can't touch that.
I've never taken much notice of balancing the airflow. A case is not going to explode if you take too much air in, now is it going to implode and turn into a vacuum if you have too many fans facing outwards. They are not exactly airtight even without fans. Certain configurations have been shown to make a minimal (1-2 C at most) difference to temps (I believe that prevalent thinking is that having more air coming out than in is slightly better) but it really makes very little difference. What's more important is that you place the right fans in the right place. Front and side should be intake, top and back exhaust.
In terms of dust, whack dust filters on if you want, many cases come with them anyway. All cases get dusty though, and should be cleaned (along with the heatsinks inside) every few months. Look for something called an "air duster" - it's effectively a can of compressed air, with a straw nozzle. It will blast the dust out of all the crannies, then you can wipe/hoover it up :)
That's not true in the slightest...ATI are currently kings of the price/performance market. The 4890 and 4870s are unbelievable cards for their prices, and Nvidia really struggle to match them on that. Nvidia do have the quickest card on the market at the moment, and Physx is beneficial in some (rare) games, but for the mainstream/ medium-high end market ATI are kings at the moment. The GTX 260 is similarly priced at the moment to a low end 4890, which will beat it by a good few frames. There is really no comparison between a 4870 and a 9800.
4850 is considerably better than a 9800GT (which is nothing but a rebadged 8800GT)...the 4870 ought to give you ~50% more performance than the 9800. Have fun with it :)
Yes!!! Best thing to do is to pull out a few hairs and use them to test the airflow after you plug them in just to be sure though.
