@vongroove Sony's simple approach is definitely winning out right now. But when both systems become commonplace in two to three years, the Xbox One, which has many more features, will likely be the more popular. The "everything to everyone" approach may not work with the hardcore crowd that frequents sites like this, but to the common consumer cool features can be a huge selling point. That's a long-winded way of saying they won't be "Microcrap" for very long.

@gralvader @mariomaster16 I suppose you have to consider what "today's standards" are. I personally felt that 9 played very well, and I can't imaging 10 varied too much from that. It was hard, and jumps required perfect timing but that's what makes the games feel unique is the precision required to beat them. But again, that's just my opinion.

Great article, McShea. I don't always agree with you, but in this case I think you hit the nail on the head. Though in some cases nostalgia can lead to good things. I picked up HeartGold out of nostalgia, and I kept playing because the game itself was fantastic, it retained all the things I loved about the original and added enough to make it feel new again without changing it too much. Unfortunately, most remakes and sequels fail to do that, and therein lies the problem with games like the Simpsons.

Edit: I did a little research and it turns out 9 and 10 are not remakes or re-releases, they're entirely new games. I was wondering about that for a long time, actually because back in the day it seemed like the games went form 8 to X and I wondered what happened to 9. So in answer to your question Megaman 10 was built with today's platforming standards in mind, while still retaining the difficulty of the old games.

@snxx @mariomaster16 When it comes down to it though, even a professional reviewer is giving his opinion. Professional reviews aren't really a perfect indicator of the quality of a game. Rather, they provide a basic idea of what to expect when buying a game. Obviously, they have to pay more attention to detail, but when it comes down to it, they're just opinions, and should be taken as such.

@gralvader @mariomaster16 Well, I haven't played it yet, but I did play 8 and 9, and they hold up very well by today's standards. I imagine he felt that the platforming was consistent and responsive enough to merit an 8.
