so cool, this thing is going to be a monster. But hopefully it won't be an expensive monster

I'm pretty excited. I have it preordered from Amazon, although I really should've preordered from Gamestop; at least with them I would be able to pick it up on release day. Amazon is freakin slow and I have to wait an extra week to get it.
This might be a purposeful rumor just to see how fans feel about this. Of course if it were true, there would be a large chunk of people (particularly middle class people) who would go for a PS4 and not Xbox. The Xbox would turn into like a sort of "Neo Jeo/Jaguar/CD-i" of this generation, as it would sort of be the inaccessible system that only the rich kids could afford to have.
As we all know, as much as some people love their PS3's, the vast majority of typical average American consumers tend to equate gaming with either the Xbox, or Nintendo. In media and in typical households of kids, you never really hear people mention the Playstation as the 'off the top of their heads' gaming system. This is more true in the US than anywhere else really. My question is, what do you think Sony has to do in order to ensure that the PS4 will BEAT the Xbox and become the number 1 name in gaming in the next generation.
Being a Sony fanboy (as I have owned every Playstation system since I was a teen back in 1996), I would like to see this happen as I've always thought the PS to trump the Xbox, in features and game variety. I'd really like to see Sony take this into mind when marketing the PS4 later this year.
I hate it when difficultly has no effect on the A.I, it just tweaks a few values so you have less health and enemies are unrealistically accurate and fast.PernicioEnigma

Yea, I can't really tell the difference between the Hard and extra Hard difficulty. Perhaps an enemy attack takes away more energy the higher the difficulty, and there are less medipacs and stuff. It doesn't seem like AI is affected in the least.
Ok, I know this game got a low score here on Gamespot, and while I disagree with it, it is not by much. This game probably deserves a 5.5 or 6, to others, perhaps a 7. But that's pushing it a bit.
Does anyone here own this game? According to the review, putting this on the Hard difficulty doesn't make this game hard but still very easy. So, I, listening to the review decided to put it on the "Ultimate Bada**" 4th difficulty level, and I died SO many times just trying to get past the FIRST mission I started all over with the Hard difficulty level. Still, I died many times but FINALLYÂ got past the first level. Now, the second mission is a huge big pain the freaking neck due to not having to fight aliens, but humans. Cheap humans. Mega cheap humans. My armor and health is basically almost worthless as this doesn't feel like I'm playing a single player campaign but instead an online multiplayer, where enemies pop up out of nowhere and with 2 clean quick shots, you die. Plus, also unlike that stupid review on this site, the game doesn't give as many checkpoints as Gamespot says. This makes things even more frustrating.
See, the game isn't in fact easy. Actually, it's quite cheap. Aliens are a pain in the neck to kill because they move so quickly and can randomly jump at you, scratch you, and take off pretty much half of your freaking health. You get hit twice by an alien, you pretty much die. The enemy strength is also unbalanced; some aliens take one shot to die, others take about 3 or 4, this is usually with the same gun as well as similar distance. Also, this wouldn't be so bad if the aiming mechanic wasn't so ridiculously annoying. Why annoying? Because it requires such pinpoint accuracy, ESPECIALLYÂ with those stupid human enemies. If you get to them you might as well let your comrades fight them off, because UNLIKE the gamespot review, if you just go into a room shooting no holds barred, you're basically committing suicide. These guys move around annoying fast, and shoot with way more accuracy than you. Then there's that usual annoying FPS "who's hitting me and from where?" bullcrap, I can't stand it.
I've already ranked up to level 7 and I haven't even finished the 2nd level yet. Why? Because i keep killing enemies, which is good, but the problem is that these are enemies I have killed over and over and over and over and over again because I keep dying so much because the game is so annoyingly cheap. It's become a trial of memorization and learning where all the enemies will be before you walk into a new room. Die, memorize, die, memorize more, die, memorize even more, rinse and repeat.
The graphics sort of add to this frustration because due to the tearing and stuff, it makes things hard to focus at times, leaving you vulnerable to enemies, especially those that just kill you from behind without any sort of warning whatsoever. While being killed by only a couple of shots is more realistic, in a video game, it only makes for frustration. I'm thinking of just giving up on this game, because I really don't want to go through 5 or 6 levels of this cheap bullcrap.
So is this game good? It could've been, if the difficultly was more balanced. If it was this would have made this game better.
Having beaten the previous Alien vs. Predator game for the PS3, I have to say that even though that game got a lot of flack, I actually had a lot of fun with it, and it is DEFINITELY better than this cheap crap. I really loved how in AvP there was that blocking mechanic you had, and if an Alien hit you, you could always melee it back, knock it down, and use the game auto-aim feature (what Aliens:Colonial Marines DESPERATELY needs!) to kill the aliens. And in AvP, since the alien animations were smoother, they weren't so cheap and acted more realistic, thus making the game tough but not cheap tough. Lastly, in Avp, the health system was better, since you held health injections and were able to use them when you needed them (not to also mention that your character in that game wasn't such a weak wussy who died after 2 hits). But in CM, you have to depend on various health packs throughout the level, that put your health up by a bit, but you'll only end up telling yourself it isn't a big deal because if an enemy surprises you with a close attack, you're as good as dead no matter how much health you have. Again, cheap freaking bullcrap.
Anyway, if you haven't played either game and want an Aliens game, I HIGHLY recommend you go for the AvP game instead, much more worth your money.
So in closing, I am again annoyed by the Gamespot review because even though he wasn't completely off the mark in saying that the game wasn't good, there was misinformation preset as well as the game not being that great for completely different reasons.
I'll say what I said before numerous times. The game is very ambitious as it tries many new things that weren't attempted before, so I give capcom kudos for that. The fact that some portions feel "uneven" or "inconsistent" are due to them trying many new things. I've already beaten all 4 campaigns on Veteran difficulty and had A LOT of fun with it, despite these subtle flaws. If you ask me, the reviews didn't do it justice, the game got more flack than it should have. Whereas the averge of review came to about a 5/10, I would def give this one an 8/10.
It helps more if you're already a Resident Evil fan. If you are, you will appreciate everything all the more. Newcomers will have a harder time getting into it because most of these characters are from the older games, thus fans already know the backstory and feel more towards these characters. I can see why non-RE fans will not like it as much. Me? I've been a fan since the original on the PS1 back in 1996, so these characters are like famliy to me! haha!
So yea, I'd recommend it, defnitely.
I played the original and TR 2 for the PS1 way back when it was new during my high school days. I got TRIII but it wasn't as good and felt glitchy. I haven't played a TR game since but am really excited about this one. I like the new, more human Lara as compared to the old one. I already have mine on pre-order from Amazon, the collector's edition.
So ever since the advent of video games, little pet peeves like audio and visual glitches (tearing, slowdown, etc) have been an annoying part of our gaming lives. Not to also mention games just freezing sometimes for what seems no apparant reason. Do you think the next gen of gaming will FINALLY bring an end to this?
Laptops, desktops, and good tablets or smart phones are good for internet browsing. TV's and game consoles are pointless, slow and horrible. I'm sure it'll have a browser but if I were Sony, I wouldn't bother putting more effort into it than I needed to. Instead, use that time and money to make the console better.
