Quake 4
If you've played one id game it seems like you've played them all. That still doesn't stop Quake 4 from being quite fun.
I've always liked id for it's brash, unapologetic goriness that is vaguely reminiscent of campy B horror movies. Quake 4 is no exception, maintaining the usual formula of high tech meets the ultraviolent, all while maint... Read Full Review

Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4 gives the series a much needed jolt, creating a game that is original, fun, and genuinely creepy.
Despite being a survival horror fan, Resident Evil has always been a fairly lukewarm series to me. It's a little scary here and there, but with it's tradition of paper thin plots, pointless puzzles, relatively shallow ch... Read Full Review

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Despite confusing and annoying glitches, Stalker delivers as an entertaining and well rounded shooter.
Imagine running around Chernobyl dressed in a gas mask and Kevlar suit, gunning down soviet soldiers, mutants, and renegades with old soviet weaponry and magical artifacts. Sounds awesome, no? It is. The game is S.T.A... Read Full Review

Silent Hill 2 (Special 2 Disc Set)
Silent Hill defined survival horror in a way no other game could by involving one of the most involving plots in a game.
Bark! To those of you who know Silent Hill 2 well, that one word brings a smile to your face. And you know that Bark! is the only thing that can make you smile about this trip to the darkness of the human psyche. S... Read Full Review

Condemned: Criminal Origins
Deeply flawed yet still compelling, Condemned creates a confusing and traumatic gaming experience in the best way.
Condemned is a deeply flawed game. The character models during the cutscenes are ugly and look like molded plastic. The detective tools are buggy at times. Game hating politicians and lawyers would *love* the hyperviolen... Read Full Review

F.E.A.R.
While entertaining, this game fails at truly being scary by focusing on combat and cheap thrills in lieu of real scares.
When I first played F.E.A.R., I was expecting a frightening nightmare akin to what I experienced playing Condemned. What I got, however, was a fun shooter that failed to scare me in any real way. Everything Monolith's su... Read Full Review

Left 4 Dead
Valve creates an immersive zombie shooter unlike anything before, with amazing atmosphere, great gameplay, and much win.
It's like Portal. But with zombies and guns. Well, maybe that's not true, but that's kind of how it feels. After playing Portal, I wanted to drive up to Valve headquarters and give everybody there a hug, and as I slop... Read Full Review

Silent Hill: Homecoming
While fixing many of the frustrating issues of the previous games, SH5 fails to be truly scary, and has many flaws.
Having been a fan of the Silent Hill series for a long time, I dreaded the advent of Silent Hill: Homecoming, hoping it would be good, but fearing that it wouldn't retain the subtle artistry of the previous games. Sadly,... Read Full Review

World in Conflict (Collector's Edition)
By far the best RTS game I've seen, with beautiful, detailed graphics, a gripping plot, and great gameplay.
I first played World in Conflict in its pre-release form at PAX with my friends. I have to admit, it was one of the most dynamic and really fun gaming experiences I've had with an RTS game, ever. The gameplay mechanic fo... Read Full Review

Silent Hill: Origins
Despite Origins getting so much right, it fails to provide anything original and lacks a compelling protagonist.
The Silent Hill series is by far my favorite videogame series by far, and I've always been very passionate about the games. When I found out about Silent Hill Origins, I was a manic mix of skepticism and excitement, but ... Read Full Review

Second Life
Part art, part commentary on human nature, part porn, Second Life is both undeniably important and remarkably irrelevant
I've been playing Second Life now for quite a while, and I've barely scratched the surface of the world. To review it now seems a bit awkward, as even though I've spent hours in Second Life, it'd be like reviewing a game... Read Full Review

Freelancer
Despite it being dated, limited in scope, and not incredibly revolutionary, this game remains inexplicably fun.
I played Freelancer shortly after it came out, and every several years or so I pick it up again and spend an entire insomniac weekend plowing through this game. I can't explain this behavior, but like clockwork, I am dra... Read Full Review

Deus Ex
A great cyberpunk game that transcends its limited graphics and gameplay flaws with fun, enthralling storytelling.
I recently played Deus Ex, having tried a demo of it out when it first came out and not thinking much of it. However, people always tell me I *need* to play this game, so I finally gave it a shot. I found myself cont... Read Full Review

Condemned 2
Condemned 2 is a vast improvement on the original, but fails in many ways to keep the eerie atmosphere of the first.
When I heard about Condemned 2, I practically shat myself fourteen times. I loved the first game, and while I acknowledged its many flaws, it was one of the most frightening and personally terrifying survival horror game... Read Full Review

GoldenEye 007
Goldeneye brings the James Bond experience to the n64, and remains one of the most influential FPS games for the console
I grew up playing Goldeneye in my best friend's living room as a substitute for going outside, so it seems natural to write a review about a game I've enjoyed for over 10 years. When Goldeneye came out, first person shoo... Read Full Review
