Ehhhh....So I recieved a new computer as a gift from my parents today...it's a basic model..but an upgrade IMO from my older computer...

anywho this computer comes with an onboard ATI X1200...that is just a lil below my ATI 9800 PRO AIW thats in my old machine...

Soooo I can't really play BF2 the way that I want it...on medium with a medium resolution...its just too bumpy with the x1200...so i was wondering if i could place my 9800 pro from my old XP machine into my Vista machine...DL the vista drivers...and BAM! it'll work fine...?

I bet this is wishful thinking...and things never seem to work out that well...I just want a card to hold me out until I can upgrade to a DX10 card...

I searched google for this answer, but nothing really...I see a bunch of people have the 9800 in thier dell with vista, but it came fomr dell like that...? PLEASE any help is aprechiated?

anywho heres my current specs to my old specs..see what you guys think of the lil upgrade..

AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+

1024 DDR2

Integrated X1200

250 Gig HD

Vista

my old machine (4? years old?)

2.6 P4

9800 PRO AIW

180 gig HD

XP

It's a lil upgrade right? That processor seems to be a leap over my old one..thats all that matters cause I plan on upgradeing the vid card soon.

Alright...alright, It's about time I got a new machine. My P4 2.6 9800 PRO AIW has just about hit the end of its life. It plays HL2, and BF2 on High/Medium levels, but watching MOH Airborne videos today it hit me...my machine is on its last leg tech wise. So my question is seeing how many/most of the games I plan on buying the next year or so will be using the Unreal Engine 3. What card can I use to run this either one Medium w/high resolution or High w/low resolution...or High w/High..if its cheap enough.

Games like MOH:A, BIA, COD4 (not UE3), UT2007, Gears of War (if its ported), etc. Mostly all WWII FPS, I wouldn't mind trying huxley just to see what it looks like. Maybe that new Lost Planet port...you catch my drift.

I read that article about the new ATI cards coming out..the three that are dx10. My question is...will the cheap one...I think it was around $100 (whoa cheap!) be able to play these games on the requested settings. Thats wishful thinking...but I figure its new technology...if not whats a good card that I should get...I'm talking about November-December time..I know its awhile, but these games have awhile anyway. Please any help is aprechiated. Thanks!

Another time, I guess would've been when I upgraded from a GeForce FX5200 to an ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro in early September of 2003. Halo had just come out, Far Cry demo wouldn't run very well on the 5200, and I knew UT2004, Doom 3, and Half-Life 2 would all be out soon (though it took another year to finally have Doom 3 and HL2).

The last time I upgraded for a specific game was when I went from 1GB to 1.5GB of ram to stop the stuttering in Battlefield 2.

Stinger78

sounds very similar....i uppgraded to a 9800 pro AIW a lil later though. Most recent upgrade 512 to 1 gig to play bf2 on medium...what settings do you play on with 1.5 gig?....i hope its not high...haha cause ill be buying some more ramm for my really old machine...

i upgraded to my 9800 after i bought moh:pa..and i didn't have the proper shaders or something...i love wwii games...but this game wasn't so hot..well the SP was alright, but the MP...was horrible..until it was properly patched that is.

Next upgrade? Soooooon....I just want to play the Unreal Engine 3 on high settings...because it seems many games are going to be using that engine (moh, bia, ro, ut2007). so i should be set..i want to upgrade to vista and dx10 and what by the end of the year...but thats only a dream.

nice post mate...im stoned two in the morning...i read that whole thing...

i don't play many MMO's....im a FPS PC gamer...I play some RPG RTS etc etc..I played WoW for like 3 months not very long...I didn't dig it so much. Thanks for typing all that up..

i dig the idea of a world effected by the actions of the players..i've always thought that the GTA franchise was sitting on a gold mine. Imagine a GTA world filled with gangs, mobs, quest, turf. It's endless, but..you'd have to make the consequences of dying very harsh...or else you'd have a bunch of people riding around  shooting up the streets all day long..also now thinking about it it'd be hard cause like what..people are going to stop for all the red lights (now thinking about this..how does Matrix online handle driving?)?...its just an idea i guess.Custom cars, custom clothes...the GTA experiance. Huge maps...unimaginable..a whole state...mapped out..like San Andreas but X10. You could rent apartments a buy real estate, and it happens in game. All the buildings you can enter. You can join a gang and instead of raids that are pointless you can take over turf..and "recruit' new members with new turf captured. gang wars...it'd be purdy chillllllll IMO...buuut I don't dig the consoles...not at all...and I doubt Rockstar would do such a thing on PC..

but thsi isn't really a RPG idea..I don't know.
