Thanks for the replies guys. So SRO is just about average for a free MMO is what I'm gathering. Anyone ever try D&D: Eberron? That's supposed to be free as well...

Hi all,

I've been looking around for a good free MMORPG to play. A couple people recommended Silk Road Online. Anyone played this game before? How does it stack up compared to other free MMORPGs out there?

...oh yeah, feel free to recommend some others if you feel there are better ones out there

The price of gaming really hasn't moved in the past 25 years. I still remember paying $60 for Mortal Kombat on the Genesis in 1993. Not much else has stayed the same price over that much time. We should be glad that games are still only $59.99 and have not increased over the years.

What's amazing is that with inflation, there is no way in hell prices should be the same as they were in 1993. If game prices had kept up with inflation, like everything else, we should be paying over $100/game now. The only reason game prices have stayed the same is because the gaming industry has experienced explosive growth over the last 10 years. It is truly a testament to the meteoric rise of the industry that publishers can afford to charge the same prices they were charging in the 1990s.

meh if it's truly an expansion/add on like they say, then i don't think they should be charging full price for it. i'm still a bit confused, because i got the impression Reach was an add on, but it seem that Reach is a totally new IP? someone please explain this to me :(

Do what I do:

1) Hold off on buying the console until a few years into its life cycle (actually, I bought my 360 pretty much when it came out but it RRoD'd on me and I've been holding off on getting a replacement until the elite falls to $350). Wait until all the technical issues get hammered out and a couple price drops come and go, then get your much more reliable system on the cheap.

2) At this point, there should already be a significant library of games out for your console. All the games that you wanted to play at launch should now be sitting in the bargain bin, going for a nice $19.99 or $29.99, or even cheaper (do NOT go and get the newest games or this just defeats the purpose and you won't save any money).

3) Just keep moving through the library chronologically. That way, you work through all the games you wanted play, and you never have to pay full price, and by the time you're done with those games, you'll have a whole new set of games waiting for you in the bargain bin. Of course, you can make the odd exception for a game you truly love, like if you're a Halo fan and ODST launches, or if you're into sports and a new FIFA or Madden game comes out, then you can make an exception and get those when they launch.

Of course, if you're one of those people who absolutely NEEDS to play games while there is still hype and buzz surrounding it, then this will not work for you. But if you don't mind holding off on a game for a year or so, you'll save a ton of money this way. Besides, a quality game is a quality game whether you play it at launch or not.

[QUOTE="hillelslovak"]Do the newer chipsets/hardware improvements reduce noise at all? I had an old 20 gb model, and it was pretty loud.....l0ve

http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6211650/xbox-360-to-have-10-year-lifespan-report

ever since my first 360 RRoD'd on me, i've been holding off on buying a new one till they get the heating issues fixed. with MS now coming out and saying that the 360's life cycle will be 10 years, i have 2 questions:

1) if the life cycle is going to be 10 years, should i just buy an elite instead of the 60 GB version Pro? 10 years worth of patches, add-ons, etc could add up to a lot of hard drive space. i'm not big on downloading TV shows and movies (besides, you can stream netflix so why download?), but i'm wondering how important the hard drive space will be for XBL and XBLA content.

2) have they gotten the heating issues fixed with the new chipsets? does anyone out there have the newer hardware? if so, how does it perform?

2.5) any guesses on when the next price drop will be (and by how much)?

I don't think they meant the actual system lasting for 10 years, I'm sure they meant in general the life of xbox 360 and like xbox live and games coming out for it. Your personal system will still probably last you 4-5 years max if you are lucky.

lol yeah i know. still, there's gonna be 10 years worth of add ons and XBLA downloads to put on the hard drive. the individual system itself may not last 10 years, but the 360 will have been on market for 10 years, meaning there will be a 10 year old library filled with 10 years worth of games. i was wondering if i'd need the extra space for all that stuff.

A 10 year life cycle is good for those of us with the console, but don't mistake that for being the 360 will be the main MS console for 10 years.Avenger1324
ah, very true. but that won't be too much of a problem for me. i've learned my lesson with the 360 and will NOT be buying MS's next generation hardware until a few years into its release (in the mean time, i plan to stock up on the 360's entire library of games at bargain bin prices:)).

i'm not a sheep but i think it's pretty clear that the wii is the front runner this gen in terms of sales and will probably finish at the top of the heap. other platforms may have better games and better online, but nintendo's doing something right if it's moving as many wiis as it is currently. yes, it's kiddy; yes, the games aren't that good, but it is winning by the most objective measure we have, which is number of units sold.
