Blame the company, not the usebase.

I recently got into Demons Souls, and while I really did like the game, it felt really lonely because almost no one was online. The online community felt dead (except for a little while at SL60ish). Is Dark Souls still popular enough to have lots of invasions (I'm assuming there still are invasions) and interaction with other players?

gw2 has no sub fee?thats bad, cause i heard it is a mmorpg not an online rpg so its either going to be of lesser quality or have in game stores etc that sell xp boosts and unbalance the game(with the rare exception of it selling only cosmetic items). Now that i think of it i remember hearing that you will have to purchse some dungeons, which sounds very lame, correct me if im wrong.Swtor doesnt look like a mmo at all, bioware is going to fail hard on this one

Hate_Squad

GW1 didn't do it and it's B2P. GW2 will be B2P as well, so don't expect any Asian MMO **** here.

(QUOTE)

Like the first MMO to concentrate on bringing STORY to the MMO scene instead of grinding...???

(/QUOTE)

Can't help but post. First, GW1 didn't have grind unless you wanted optional titles at end game. Going from the start of the game to the end you basically played one huge storyline that led you across the continent (And other continents with expansions). While I didn't like it very much, it already has anti grind philosophy and the storyline is important.

GW2 has anti-grind philosphies around it, and a storyline with choices to be made. Now, while SWTOR seems to be relying on story telling to be its most innovative and important feature, GW2 also has it, and they're changing up combat and questing (DEs), because these two areas are the most stale part of playing an MMO.

Why is Guild Wars 2so special, you ask? Well it could be because of any of these reasons...

- Dynamic events essentially replacing quests (These occur when certain conditions are met, like weather, a certain number of characters, player does x or y, etc) Dynamic events allow players to publicly fight together and directly affect the world. By succeeding you might drive off a band of raiders, but if you fail a town might be taken over.

-Active combat: No longer will you stand there exchanging hits with other players or mobs. Now, you can dodge out of incoming attacks, cast while moving, and use the environment as weapons. Think of it as playing an action game online. All attacks and spells are distinct from one another, so you don't have to rely on watching enemy casting bars, and you can focus on the screen. Classes will be able to work together tactically to kill players or monster (example 1: an elementalist casts fire wall and a ranger shoots through it, setting the arrows on fire) and (example 2: A ranger places a campfire on the ground and a warrior uses whirlwind axe, spreading the fire)

-The Holy trinity is gone (tanks, healers, DPS) and is replaced by damage, control and support (every class will have the ability to do these). Arenanet does not allow allied targeting and there will be no aggro system. You won't be forced into watching your AI 24/7 and you can focus on the game.

-The game looks amazing, not because it requires a graphics intensive computer, but because the art style looks great

-Arenanet has said they have more than 60 movies worth of voice acting in their game, and have removed the need to read through quest text.

-Personal story and character profile: Throughout the game you can progress through your own personal story, where you can make choices to join certain factions, save certain people, etc. This will be different for every player because there are many choices to be made. Your character profile is how your character presents himself to the world. Will you be a vicious brute or a charming hero? Your choices in the personal story and talking with npcs will change this, and it directly affects how NPCs act around you. For example, if you are a barbaric figure and you walk into a city the NPCs might run away or avoid you.

- Anti grind philosophies similar to GW1- Levelling up will not take forever, and getting gear won't be a mind numbing grind. You can play the game at whatever pace you choose and you'll still hit cap.

-The Sidekick system: Allowing you to play with higher level or lower level friends by altering your (or their) level so that you may play through zones with them.

- No competition for resources: In WoW, if someone mines a node of iron, it disappears for everyone, and no one can access it until it respawns. In GW2, nodes will only disappear for the player who took it, so people don't have to compete for resources.

-Finally: No monthly fees! =D

Do you know if you can fly around the galaxy or will they stick to KoTR, where you were stuck on land throughout the game? And if you can't freely fly around can you at least do anything in space?

So I've been keeping up to date with Guild Wars 2 and I always hear about the Old Republic when people mention their favourite MMO for 2011. I've been looking forward to GW2 for years now and I'm very excited for their new features, like removing tanking and healing and their dynamic event system, but I still don't know anything about ToR, other than a lot of story. Could anyone give me a summary of its features, game play mechanics and combat? I'd like to know what all the hype about ToR is about if it's competing with GW2. I don't feel like going through endless forums to figure out all the new innovations for myself, and their website doesn't seem to give me any information.

i think A crack in time, because they finally got the hoverboots down. I mean, they were fun in previous games, but MAN I love zooming along with those things.

i personally think its unchartedjjwhite91

i thought this, too, until the online started to get more and more empty. Now it takes a while to get into a match, and they aren't always full. I suspect people are playing the DLC maps, or have moved onto other games.
