Yeah, mount and blade i reckon has probbaly the best medieval combat, although everything else sucks, graphics are quite horrible(but hey what can you expect its an indie game).
Oblivion is quite fun, but as previously mentioned for its archery, it gets kinda useless unless you mod it, because at the end it'll get WAY too difficult. I found archery more better in 3rd person in Oblivion, but it wasen't made for 3rd person, becauase there is no crosshair, so you had to guess the center of the screen.. but I downloaded this mod and made archery sooo satisfying that i used it so much... It made like the physics better when using archery, so like one guy would run up to you and you like a bow aiming at him at point blanc, and just before he hits you with his long sword, you let go and the arrow flies into his face, and his whole body goes flying nice and far and his head takes so much impact - which is extremely satisfying. It makes good use of the ragdoll physics.
If only some non-indie game had thought of the idea that mount and blade had for it's combat, it would defiantly be succeding...
