There was this great series called Ape Escape on the PS1, PS2 and PSP back in the day. I thought it was very fun. Do you think it will ever be made again? Why the heck don't they make these games anymore on PlayStation platforms? Everything is freekin' about blood and killing things now.

Ok, get a PS3 and get ModNation Racers, Little Big Planet, Sly Cooper HD Collection, Ratchet and Clank HD Collection, Jak and Daxter HD Collection, Sly Cooper 4, Ratchet and Clank Future Triology, ETC. It sounds like you know your own answer to this question. Whether or not these types of games will be on the PS4 remains to be seen.
Yeah but I had Little Big Planet and thought it was lame. Controlling the sock guy (or whatever his name is) felt too low-gravity and "floaty." I loved Ratchet and Sly on the PS2 and PS3. But for some reason, games like Mario and DKC seem to have tighter gameplay and controls and are more fast paced and polished. Sigh.....I wish Nintendo would just go third party already so that I can be playing Mario on PS4. Just imagine. The best software on the best hardware. It's like the best of both worlds. Right?
I think you guys are missing the point. I'm talking about games such as Sly, maybe Ratchet or potential indie games that would hopefully relieve my desire to play games like Mario or DKC or Zelda.
So, I currently own a Wii U with NSMBU, SM3DW and DKCTF. I have enjoyed all three games and would rate them all a 9. However, as some of you may remember, I am interested in trading in my Wii U for a PS4. I mean, at this point, there's probably nothing else coming out for the Wii U that interests me much. I don't care for Bayonetta 2 or that X game or SSB or MK8 so much. So...here's my question...
How can I fill in the void of Nintendo games by only owning a PS4? Will there be games that are similar (i.e. colorful, quirky, fun, old school)? I am looking for reasonable replacements of Mario, DKC and Zelda on the PS4 (whether available now or in the future). I'm thinking maybe some of the indie games would be just as fun as Nintendo's games. Right?
Thanks
Nintendo can do both. They can make old school style games AND games that appeal to the modern mainstream. They're just choosing not to do so.
PS4 even has a lot of indie games that can be considered old school.
The PS4 will surpass the PS2, because tons of Xbox people are making the switch to PS4 this gen. Also, it's outpacing the PS2 sales since day one.
I, too, and contemplating becoming a PS4 fanboy and ditching Nintendo. Heck, everyone is jumping on the PS4 bandwagon, so I will too!
EarthBound feels both like a masterpiece and a generic game at the same time. I played the entire game myself (back in 2000) and LOVED it. I would give it a 10. Unlike 99% of other RPG's, EarthBound takes place in modern times, and you control a boy who uses ATM machines, walks through towns and cities with modern buildings and cars, etc. The colorful visuals are very charming, too. And I love the soundtrack....it's unbelievable and original. The battle system is great, too. It's a very humorous game.
I would love to see a 3D modern EarthBound game, but I know it will never happen.
Yeah I know, but I just feel like if I own two consoles, it's excessive. In fact, at one point, I even considered getting rid of my TV and all living room electronics, since I spend SO much time on my computer these days. Sometimes, as much as 3 months would go by and I wouldn't even turn the TV on. However, I feel like my interest in gaming has sort of revitalized a bit, with the new gen. But like I said, I'm disappointed with Nintendo, ever since the N64 days, with the severe lack of third party support and increasingly family oriented image. The launch of the Wii is when the shit finally hit the fan. Talk about a total slap in the face to regular gamers who prefer a traditional controller, a reasonable upgrade in hardware and a serious online infrastructure. Nintendo has betrayed gamers like me, so I'm going to betray them now.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice!
I think you're right that although Nintendo is (or was) great, it doesn't make sense to have as a primary/single console, for an adult single gamer. And the simple fact that Nintendo just isn't what they used to be. They're targeting a different market (or at least attempting to) these days, and I myself am not 10 anymore. I'm 29 now.
I think I'm going to get a PS4, but not sure what to do with the Wii U.
