@Axile11 @nephili232 I actually just use my 60 gb for downloading movies, I'm too afraid of the Bluray reader breaking and getting the YLOD. I didn't even think about dust.
"5 percent of gamers play past-generation titles on new machines"?? Maybe if we took a poll last month, but there's a significant period during generation shifts where you're going to be playing a lot more past gen titles than next gen titles. Backwards compability is hugely important until the next generation can establish itself.
The first year I owned my PS3 right after launch I was still playing PS2 games 80 percent of the time and I was happy to have backwards compatibility. I still own my 60gb just in case but all my gaming in the last few years has been PS3 titles on my 250 gb slim.
Just give me a release date and I'm sold! Save your marketing money. It's a niche game and fans are already on board. Demons Souls sold entirely by word of mouth and great reviews.
I think there's a huge advantage to just numbering your systems. As silly as the PS4 may sound, it lets parents and non-gamers and basically anyone that can count know that this is a step up from the PS3 and PS2 and so on. When you name your system you run the risk of confusing the casual audience.
Look at all the trouble Nintendo is having convincing the public that the WiiU is even a new system. All other inadequacies of the WiiU aside, I think a lot of it can be traced to the name confusing parents and casual gamers.
720 might sound stupid but it would eliminate any potential problems.
Still furious that there was additional paid DLC beyond the Season Pass. Even more infuriating are the people defending this, like nickel and diming us is acceptable and we should just get used to it. Being sold a game in a piecemeal fashion for an extra 50 dollars is not appropriate.
If this were released tomorrow I might give it a shot given the massive gaming drought right before the next gen systems come out. But knowing SE, and how unbelievably ignorant they can be, this will probably get released in September. It could be the best MMO ever made and no one will care given the next gen system launches and the billion other titles coming out this fall. They set themselves up to fail.
