Ill keep an eye out, but i genuinely cant remember the last time any game or electronics show impressed me at all. CES will be even less so as its primarily focusing on lots of different devices, not just games. I expect a lot about Windows 7, but thats about it.

Isnt Sony doing a keynote too btw?

Matt Chandronait has confirmed Shane has been laid off. Current list as per NeoGAF;

Ryan O Donnell
Matt Chandronait
Andrew Pfister
Philip Kollar
Nick Suttner
James Mielke
Shane Bettenhausen
Anthony Gallegos

And i would assume many more who are more behind-the-scenes. That list is pretty much a big indicator that 1up as it used to be simply wont exist anymore. There are a few personalities i still like there, but to be honest, with that many missing, i might as well delete the site from my bookmarks.

Hmm, its really hard to follow whats going on here. Shane seems to be back to unconfirmed either way, but Milky is axed according to his twitter.

Lots of big 1up personalities going.

Well what can you say. Not that many people read magazines now anyway when you have Internet. Takes away the 1 month wait for news also.Gamingcucumber

True, but that doesnt explain why they've sacked a good number of the 1up editorial staff and killed both the podcasts and GameVideos.

No word on Shane yet, but Garnetts twitter doesnt seem to suggest he's been laid off. Hard to tell right now though.

EDIT: Unconfirmed, but it looks like Mangod got canned too :(

EGM is the tip of the iceberg from what i can tell of the NeoGAF thread;

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347957&page=9

- 30 or so people laid off, including Ryan, Matt and Skip

- 1up Show gone, podcasts potentially cancelled

- gamevideos entire staff gone, may never make it out of beta

It actually just seems like a standard preview, except they've actually put negatives in it. Frankly, I wish all previews did this, rather than the overly-praising ones most sites hand out.agentfred

Oh dont get me wrong, as a preview it works great, and i agree that jouranists shouldnt be afraid to put in the negatives in a preview if it looks likely that they wont be changed in the final product.

Unfortunately, the title and wording of the article negates that. A simple preview for Killzone 2 probably wouldnt net too many hits at this point, hence my skeptisism (sp?) in my first post.

Anyone else find the idea of a games media outlet predicting the content of next months reviews for a game a little... odd?

I would assume they would have some valid points based off the preview code, but at the same time, it does stink of fishing for hits.

I wouldnt expect a price drop anytime soon. Sony have said time and time again that their aim is profitability, so the chances are they'll try and ride out this recession (and possibly the rest of this generation) making at least some money back on the PS3, and then jump into next gen early. I agree they need to keep a little competitive in order to at least sell the machines, but right now i would imagine Sony's priorities are not "lets see if we can beat microsoft to second place".

The article isnt specific in what areas will be most heavily hit by the cuts, but i doubt its the gaming division. If it is, this is a hel of a price to pay for a console price cut, but i seriosuly doubt it is.

My money is on the failure of Vista to take off as Microsoft expected. At release, it was far too buggy, far too expensive, and has far too many compatibility issues, and now its coming back to bite them. Its not a bad OS by any means (i beta'd it and still use it now) but i suspect this has been coming for a while, though i expect the economic climate to be making it worse than it should be.

My heart goes out to all those who have lost their jobs.
