UPDATED: RE Outbreak Closing

While people are trumping up rumors of the new PSN improvements, are the improvements going to prevent this kind of thing from happening?

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/770/770381p1.html

March 5, 2007 - Hot on the heels of last week's news that Konami is shutting down the Metal Gear Solid 3: Subistence servers, Capcom has announced it will pull the plug on the Resident Evil Outbreak File#2  servers at the end of this month.

A post
from a Super Moderator on the official RE Outbreak 2 forums reads: "Since Resident Evil Outbreak File#2 was released in August 2005 , Capcom has provided a server enabling consumers to experience the online element of this game free of charge. Regretfully, conditions now dictate that we must close down this server effective from March 31, 2007. Naturally it will still be possible to play the game offline, but the online component will no longer be available."

The post makes no mention of the original Resident Evil Outbreak, so it looks like the first online zombie game will remain in play.

Today Nielsen released data
showing more than 4.4 million gamers now take their consoles online. But it looks like, with the recent console transition, companies are cleaning out some of their lesser-used online games.

Konami revealed today that they’ll be halting the online service for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence in North America on the 2nd of April 2007.

Konami wishes to sincerely thank all of the Subsistence online community for their dedication to the game and support of the Metal Gear Solid series.

The Metal Gear online tradition of stealth, action and team play continues on the PSP system with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops with all-new characters, levels and modes of play.

Fire up Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence online and enjoy the last few months of the service while you still can.

The game was only online for a year.

Yes the next gen in waiting PS3 wait beyond

Well, GRAW didn't come out on the 360 until March 2006 and Vegas didn't launch until Nov. 2006. So really, the PS3 isn't doing to bad in the timeline for games. We'll get Vegas in March and GRAW2 sometime around or before November. Evens out in the end.

We got ours in 2006, you get yours in 2007. I didn't realize PS3 owners were living on an alternate timeline.

I was going by the launch timeline of each console.

Yeah, and the general consumer goes by the timeline of life.

And that timeline has me waiting for the release of these games on the PS3. Just because the 360 came out earlier doesn't mean it's magically better for that reason. Just like the PS2 wasn't better because it launched earlier then the Xbox. Other factors involved. My console gaming revolves around the PS3 timeline because I don't own a 360. It's as simple as that.

The point is, you're having to wait longer to play these games.  Sony delaying their system doesn't give them a free pass on having upcoming multiplat titles coming out on the 360 first.

[QUOTE="mjarantilla"][QUOTE="DaddyDC650"][QUOTE="GARRYTH"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="GARRYTH"]um you still be able to play the demos but not a game. 360 doesn't rely on a hardrive for games like the ps 3. it has nothing to do with ram fanboys. this so stupid atempt for trolling. who cares. i will injoy of watching a movies while downloading.DaddyDC650
what does the PS3's HD have to do with this? do you suggest that everyone ought to be like you and be forced to watch a movie while they wait for a download that may take an hour or 2? while people owning the competitions' system can do anything the console offers except play online (for obvious reasons)? :| your attempted damage control failed.

so the only differance is that you guys can play a single player game. wow im so sad now. we can browse the web instead can you.

Good point. Xbox 360 users can't even browse the web while they DL demo's and what not. I'm sure Sony will create a patch that will ensure background downloading while we play games eventually. Whoever sais otherwise is just a Sony hater and probably could not afford one anyways. LoL!

Basic instructions for browsing the web while downloading stuff onto your 360: 1) Turn on your PC. Seriously, I bought my 360 for my entertainment center. I bought my PC for work and Internet. I neither need nor want to browse the Internet on my TV.

Too bad you forgot to mention that the 360 does not have the ability to surf the net at all and how it would be convenient to do so. We are talking about features that are convenient are we not?

Playing video games is the MAIN function of a system.  It's not a convenience.

I don't own a PS3, but I've had Webtv, Dreamcast and a Wii.  I would take a computer over the three any day.  Are you posting from your PS3?

GP = gaming pal

*I even wanna buy it now despite Halo 3 not being out yet. I already have a Wii but I'm not endorsing Wii60 here*

1. Any major disadvantages for buying the basick pack over the premium other than HDD?
2. Are the hardware problems (red A-hole of death) still a problem?

Also to afford it I'll be traded in the majority of my handhelds games : (, but I hardly play them anyway so I shouldn't be emo about it. Might even go for the PS3 if I have enough...

1.  If you don't have the HDD, you'll need to buy a memory card which adds to the cost.  Also the wireless controller is really too nice to not have.  My advice is buy the premium and get some of the used 360 games like Cod3, Fight Night if budget is a concern.

2.  You get a 1 year warranty.  If you have a faulty system, it's likely the problem will show up before then.

[QUOTE="-GeordiLaForge-"][QUOTE="Ibacai"]Yes, the 360 premium is a 20gb. However, remember that some games on the PS3 will download onto the HDD. So you'll use more space on the PS3 overall. So if you want tons of movies and demos then I'd definately go with the 60gb. Also depends on if you want the memory stick readers and wifi.TheCrimsonKoopa
Yeah, Oblivion alone uses 5gb of the PS3's harddrive in order to improve load times. But imagine if you got the 20gb harddrive, and you needed to erase the cache in order to download a demo or something. It would be awful if you had to wait on the game to be loaded onto the harddrive again, unless it's done incrementally. Either way, I'm getting the 60GB version just in case...

Do you have to put that junk on there? I don't mind waiting an extra few seconds or whatever to save 5G.

it's more like 10 minutes.

I think the leveling system in the game takes the fun out of it.  for example, if you build up your sneak skill, all of the enemies become too tough.  Playing as a mage always breakd the game.  Once I had 100% chamelon there was no challange.
