Andrew and I hit up the north end on Saturday, and it was good at first but then mushed out as the wind picked up and the tide rose.
I couldn't find anyone to join me on Sunday but there was enough swell to make Candylands break, and it was serving up nice, long, consistent 3-4 ft lefts. No complaints... Here's a nice photo of a left on some other day in some other place with some other dude riding the wave.
After battling a head-cold for two days I'm in no shape to get wet. Here's a nice photo anyway and an update on Stinson...
"STINSON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- The waters off Stinson Beach reopened at dawn Wednesday after being closed for nearly 10 days after great white sharks were sighted.
The waters were reopened briefly last Friday after shark sightings the previous Sunday. But another shark was seen later Friday morning, prompting officials to close waters through the Labor Day weekend.
The U.S. Park Service reports that lifeguards and rangers will continue to monitor and regularly patrol the waters off Stinson Beach, which remain open as long as no further sightings occur.
The sightings came in the wake of a fatal shark attack Aug. 15 on an abalone diver off the Mendocino County coast north of Fort Bragg.
"There has been a sighting up at Point Reyes, but that is not unusual," Marcus Dobrowolski, a lifeguard at Stinson Beach, said Tuesday. "But the waters here have been clear."
The last shark attack at Stinson Beach occurred May 31, 2002, when a 24-year-old surfer from Bolinas was bitten on the left side about 250 yards offshore. He recovered from his injuries, but needed more than 100 stitches to close his wounds. "
"Signs at Stinson Beach warning visitors not to swim or surf in the waters have been put back in place after the beach was closed following a brief re-opening, due to a confirmed white shark sighting by the Marin County Sheriff's Department, reports the National Park Service. "
surfline says: 3-5 ft. - waist to head high and poor+ conditions.
Lightly textured bouncy closeouts with some sloppy reform on the inside. Look for some better shape on the building tide but watch out for building onshore winds.
