What? I didn't actually get what they're planning to do. I mean, "own a slice of the Minecraft world that friends can join free of charge, provided they own a copy of the game" is exactly what it is today.
People can join a server, free of charge, provided they own a copy of the game. And to "own" this bit of the Minecraft world, all you need to do is setup a server yourself, which my 8 year old brother has done without any help...
I don't get the point of this, although it seems like there's too much information missing.
I'm pretty sure I already own the game they'll be offering - what happens then? Will I at least be able to gift it to a friend or will I be "left out" for having too many games?
@punkpunker It's not pay-to-win if you can only purchase exclusive skins for units/buildings/etc. I'm sure a lot of people would do that to "stand out" during a game.
Could be other things too of course, like new avatars, audio etc. There are a lot of things people are willing to pay for, even the smallest things.
Make sure you have TOO MANY servers online at launch. If it turns out they were too many, fine, remove them.
Sure, servers costs money, but I'm pretty sure they'll lose more money than the servers costs if the game isn't even working. Gamespot gave the game a 5.0, mostly because the game didn't even work.
Too many servers would have made the game function properly for current players and it would've gotten better reviews from both journalists and users. Non-working servers make it (mostly) impossible for current players to play and journalists gets pissed, equals in a bad review-score.
@Imperiacommando I'm not THAT interested in those, but if I know myself, I'll still be purchasing them too. I've got too much time on my hands not to. :P
@Imperiacommando Maybe I'm their bitch too then. (looks at BF1942 (was free), BF3, Burnout Paradise, Red Alert 3, Crysis 2, Crysis 3, Darkspore, Dead Space 2, Dead Space 3, Gatlin Gears, Kingdoms of Amalur, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor (was free), NFS Hot Persuit, NFS Most Wanted, SimCity and Swtor - and those are only the EA games I have on Origin)
