Curse of the hype

Finally its official, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is shipping March 20. It has gone gold, and we will soon be able to count on our fingers the days left until we play it at home. I cannot remember ever waiting so eagerly on a game - first the age-long wait for the 360 launch and original release date, then the three month wait after the delay. The hype of this game is so strong in me that it is dangerous. Hype is always dangerous.

When I played Morrowind (Oblivions predecessor), I had no expectations to the game beforehand. It turned out to be one of my greatest gaming-experiences ever. But maybe if I had played and loved Dagerfall and Arena, and thus been extremely hyped up for Morrowind, it would not have been that good. Maybe my anticipation and expectations for Oblivion will not be fully met, and therefore disappoint me.

I know it will be good, almost for certain, but will it be as good as I think? Maybe not. And then again - maybe! This is "next-gen" after all... err...

Anticipated games of 2006

These are the games I am looking forward to the most in 2006:

1. Elder scrolls IV: Oblivion (X360/PC)
2. Lost Odyssey (X360)
3. Worms: Open Warfare (DS/PSP)
4. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (PC)
5. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC)
6. Mass Effect (X360)
7. Tao's Adventure (DS)
8. Blue Dragon (X360)
9. Gears of War (X360)
10. Neverwinter Nights 2 (PC)

As well as all games coming for Nintendo Revolution.

Electroplankton

I picked up a copy of American import Electroplankton yesterday, and I must say I am thrilled. This whole idea of art and gaming (?) is really interesting. In a way, all games are art, but definately not in the same way as Electroplankton. The creativity and beauty of it is really captivating, and I am not talking about graphical beauty - more like the beauty of the whole idea and experience. And not only is it very creatively made, it even makes me be creative too. It kind of feels like it is tapping me for power and turning it into something beautiful, which isnt necessarily the music we make together, but the whole process and experience. It is good, very good.
