dumb question, do I buy an external or internal harddrive? sorry, Im not too great with technology

I have a 40 gig ps3, and Im pretty much out of room now. Im etting really tired of installing and uninstallling games. Any suggestions for what would be the best thing to do about this?

The hard drive on my ps3 is almost completely out of room, so Ive been thinking about buying a new one. Two questions

1. How much do these usually cost?

2. will my game saves be deleted if I upgrade the hard drive?

Do you think that would solve the problem with the error?

I have broadband dsl, no router, and I try to connect the ps3 to the modem through an ethernet cord. Every time i do a connection test, it says DNS 80710102 error.

I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but I can't get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
