aren't there any general rules, or indications that show whether it would be better to upgrade one before the other?

i've already made all my upgrades but i'm just curious.

As sort of a follow up question to this post by com2006: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26619989

When newer games are starting to crawl at framerates lower than 30fps...

What factors determine whether it's time to upgrade my videocard vs my processor?

60% is good! 60% is good! especially if i don't dish out anything for the extra cards. The SLI capable mobo would be good for anything anyway. How about heating and voltage/power requirements, is that an issue when SLI'ing cards?

Oh i see. But theoretically, are two 8600GT's supposed to give twice the performance of a single one?

If for instance i'm playing Crysis on the fastest CPU ever made (controlled environment), and the bottleneck is totally on the one 8600GT GPU, and my framerate is something like 20fps. Would a second 8600GT bring it up to 40fps?

Just curious, i'm tempted to upgrade to a SLI capable mobo since i happen to have a second 8600GT coming my way out of sheer circumstance. I'm new to the SLI thing and was just wondering how much faster the performance of 2 SLI cards are compared to one.

Thanks for the info everyone. So do games like Call of Duty 4, Forza 2, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Gran Turismo 4, Assassin's Creed, take any performance hit when set to 480p or 720p?

I mean, if for instance my Xbox 360 is set to 720p, does it mean the graphics chipset is handling the same workload as if it were rendering to a PC monitor at 1024x768?

Hello people. Does anyone know the exact graphical settings for Assassin's Creed on the PC, so that it looks exactly like the Xbox 360 version? Disregarding resolution of course. I just want to see how my PC fares when compared to the Xbox 360. Or is the Xbox 360 version equivalent to the PC version with graphics maxed out? (again, disregarding resolution).

Thanks, i'd appreciate any help. I'm just curious. But please don't give me approximations unless it's collected from people who compared the 360 and PC version side by side.

I would like to thank everyone of you for your valuable input. I'd also like to say that the problem was resolved. It was a faulty video card. Everything's working fine now with the new card.

I'll definitely look into a better power supply though. I'm still taking all your advice seriously. In the near future i plan to upgrade to a heavier duty power supply. Gotta protect my investment!

Thanks again. Case closed!
