And they are damn short-sighted if they thought they are protecting consumers's rights. The only real winners out of this debacle are the lawyers and policy makers. Companies will respond with more sophisticated DRMs or exclusive / essential content unlocks upon 1st point-of-sale, look no further than what Activision and EA has been doing.
Reminds me of a Youtube video where a kid thrashed about violently and stuff a TV remote in his ass after his mom cancels his WOW account... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YersIyzsOpc
This is a fine example of laws and policies which are outdated, and did not keep up with its time. If this lawsuit is allowed to pass, it will affect other digital content of other media as well. E.g. Music, movies, apps.
@Blitz_156 Surpass? How does games surpass movies in story telling when both use very contrasting methods in executing the plot? While I give credits to the games industry for its attempts to deliver great plots, similarly the movie industry has barely stagnated with new cinematography, editing, script writing etc. techniques and technologies being experimented on films to bring greater immersion to the audience.
This is getting ridiculous. What's next? "Which tablet PCs are great for gaming?" Netbooks simply isn't built for gaming unless you're talking about games with requirements such as Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 (Intel Atom is weak, lack of GPU, no DVD ROM etc.). If you want mobile gaming, you'd buy yourself a decent notebook which would net you a considerable amount of savings in long term of 2-3 years.
