@papermario I think the thing is, they just don't make the kinds of video games they used to make, like 10 years ago give or take. And part of the reason for this is, most games now feature online content predominantly, or are on smartphones. Or, instead of "copying Gears and Halo", they now copy open-world games.

If you buy games nowadays they usually have patches, or DLC. They have some sort of online multiplayer mode that is a major focus of the game over single-player content. In fact, a lot of games nowadays are just meant to be really competitive and "eSports-ish".

At the same time, on an unrelated topic... I find myself getting worse at playing games from older systems nowadays because I'm no longer used to other controllers. I think there is maybe one controller style at a time that I can be used to using, and over time you just grow disused to most of them.

I don't think I am done playing games, but I don't think they are as big a part of my life nowadays. I have been playing League of Legends a bit, and it is kind of fun, but to be perfectly frank I don't think I will ever be any good at that game or have as much fun playing it as I would a good single-player game. And I don't really see myself ever getting into most smartphone games, so if I ever do get a smartphone I doubt I will primarily use that for gaming.

Console gens also seem shorter nowadays, and a lot less impressive. I think part of it is that time seems to pass faster as you get older, but also I really just think there are less original games being made now. Back in 2001 or 2005 you would have had more hit games per console gen, that were really worth owning. Each system really had a plethora of great games. Today it seems like, there is less coming out for each new console that really seems worth playing, maybe 6 or 7 games for a whole lifetime of a system - if that.

My answer is: maybe. It has a much better chance than the Wii U, and I think that Nintendo's current strategy (which was formulated by Iwata and co.) makes a lot more sense than what they were doing before.

For me, the big questions are around their new, unified software development teams (console and handheld - Kimishima has said that Nintendo should be able to deliver a higher volume of content each year for Switch, versus the frequent dry spells they had with Wii U - and that obviously remains to be seen). Another big question is how they're going to connect all this up to things like mobile and social media. I think if they get that part right and create something compelling, they'll be in a much better position this time around.

Also, at a broader level...I think Nintendo Switch is just immediately a clearer value proposition than Wii U. Wii U was confusing for many people in ways that Switch is not. So at the very least, I think they'll have a lot less trouble communicating with the market about the unique properties of Switch, which in turn should help them with sales.

@joebones5000: I'm a bit confused about your confusion around the Switch when you say that they "basically just created another GamePad" - how so? From what I can tell by the video, there's absolutely no concept of the Switch having that same kind of dual-screen gameplay between handheld and TV. Either you're playing the console on the TV with the controller (like any normal console) or you're taking it with you remotely.

Nintendo Should get with the times. Make a console with comparable tech to PlayStation and Xbox brands. But Nintendo should wait until Xbox 4 and PlayStation 5 are announced and then Nintendo should make a traditional console with regular controllers. The Nintendo Switch Pro controller is the first sign of Nintendo finally realizing that people want a good traditional controller. As much as the Switch pro controller is like an Xbox one or Xbox 360 controller in terms of layout.

But for now Nintendo is content with experimenting with their consoles. Currently with the Nintendo Switch and the Joy Con controllers. The Nintendo Switch is "kind of" a reverse Wii U. This time the tablet controller is an actual tablet with processing power. Nividia Shield level of processor in the Switch Tablet. Nintendo Switch is Nintendo once again being late to the rise of tablet gaming. The Wii U tried a tablet shaped controller with a main console dock that had the power of and Xbox 360/PlayStation 3. The Switch is a tablet with the processing power of the Nividia Shield Which is somewhat more powerful than Xbox 360/PlayStation 3. But no to the level of PlayStation 4/Xbox One.

With Xbox one Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Pro coming out. The Nintendo Switch could once again be in the same position as the Wii U. No 3rd party Support due to underpowered hardware. The Wii U started out with the promise of third party support. Which quickly died out. The Nintendo Switch is also promising strong third party support but how long will that last?

So the Switch is a reverse Wii U The home console dock has no CPU. Where last time the tablet part had no CPU in the Wii U. Now the Switch is The tablet has the processing power and the dock has no CPU. This time the gimmick is the detachable Joy-con controllers. Nintendo has united their Home and handheld First, second and third party development studies in the hope of ending game droughts. Time between game releases on Wii U was very long. While games on Xbox and PlayStation keep on coming at a steady pace.

So for now the Nintendo Switch is another experiment Switching the processing power from the part that connects to the Television to the Tablet part of the console. Nintendo will not make a traditional home console until they learn that their experiments are not the best way to go. But for now the Nintendo Switch could be the videogame machine that returns Nintendo to greatness of the 1983-1996 run of NES/Original Gameboy and Super Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch seems great on paper. But will it meet the same fate as Wii U.

Depends what you're playing I guess. Personally there are some games that I just don't touch - no matter how popular they may be.

Games like cod/battlefield aren't really my cup of tea. Same goes for sports games.

Remember that not every game has to be multiplayer. There are some great games out there - just gotta look outside of the box.

Ha, i hear ya, that so does happen. When i finally stop caring about how i'm gonna be in an interview, and then go in like i don't give a crap, answer in a way i normally would not, and then i get the job. Its crazy, but it has happened to me too. The world of interviews is unpredictable.

Being honest here, but if you handed the above in as part of your application, I wouldn't even look at the rest. No use of capitalization, lack of punctuation, spelling issues, poor syntax and sentence structure...

But someone will say "it's just a forum post, it doesn't need to be perfect!" Well, see, here's the thing: if you are well educated, you wouldn't have to try to write well because your education would take over and that would just be how you write naturally.

A good examiner will not just listen to what you have to say, but how you say it. Your facts don't even have to be wrong to fail if you come across as someone who isn't willing to put maximum effort into everything you do.

No one is arguing that the WiiU, as hardware, did anything to better games.

If anything it made many games more limited and unplayable. Not to mention the WiiU itself took forever to load anything.

With that stated, if the "gimmick" wasn't a random thought like the WiiU. And makes the games Nintendo is working on better? I'm up for it.

They've done it with the DS and Wii.

I was asked to come in for an on-site interview with Snapchat in Venice, CA. I flew down there (I live in Eugene, Oregon) and the interview went really well and I didn't end up getting the job. Was a really cool experience though and I definitely don't regret it.

Its a combination of getting older and nostalgia.

Same things happen to art, music and movies... Well everything really that a person can be nostalgic about.

Nintendo stated Wii U struggled because it didnt set itself apart from the Wii enough. It confused the consumers with the Gamepad since it was named Wii U. People thought it was a Wii controller, they didnt know it was a new console.
