I fixed it. It was an OpenGL issue. Used this guide for getting Quake 2 to work on Windows 7 but made a custom profile for SoF instead using the Driver extention limit 11a8 with conformant texture clamp set to off.

Hey all, I recently found my old copy of SoF Platinum and I installed it with no problems today but as soon as I try run the game it just crashes immediately with a 'send error report' box. I'm trying to run it on Windows XP with a GTS 250, 2 gb ram and C2D e6400.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this when trying to play it on XP? Or knows of a way to fix this problem? I've tried looking all over online but haven't found anything similar to people having this problem with new hardware.

*edit* The Platinum version is already patched to version 1.07f, Also I've tried changing compatibility modes but it still crashes.

I don't get it, how is this stupid? In GTA3, VC & SA you have to go back to the safehouse to save your game, if you load the game you're back at the safehouse. Its exactly the same in GTA IV.

Its anything but stupid, imagine driving back to a safehouse after each mission to save, how tedious would that get. I'd rather have autosave do it for me after each mission I finish and then just save my game at the safehouse on a seperate slot once I've finished playing for that sitting.

As for opting out to autosave, it does tell you that there is data already in the autosave slot when you start playing and asks if you want to overwrite it or not. If you don't overwrite it the game won't autosave for that session. Can't get much plainer than that.

Lithos_

I'm not comparing it to the previous installments, I know nothing of them.

If a game supposedly saves in a warehouse, or in the airport, or in a cemetery, or wherever, how come when I load my saved game I find myself in a whole different place? I think it is crystal clear what I am talking about, can't get much plainer than that either. This is unprecedented and weird and very annoying and yes, stupid -- at least from my point of view. I understand that you are cool about it, but I'm not. I simply hated this system, it's ruining the game for me...

EDIT:

Just because the same system is present in the previous GTA games doesn't excuse them. If they such, they suck. And oh, how they suck. Why do you even have to save in a safe house in the first place? No games do that anymore, its incredibly inconvenient.

I think a save system akin to the Mass Effect games, or GRAW 2 would work well, where you can save any time except for when you are in combat. Everything else in GTA IV moved into the new gen, why did the save/checkpoint system and the health system get stuck in the past?

with_teeth26

I have to second that. Every and each part.

But it already works well, there has only ever been one way to save your game in previous GTA's and that is in the safehouse. The autosave does exactly the same thing except you're not a safehouse, it isn't supposed to save your location in the game, only your progress with the overall objectives within the game.

There is no being left behind in the last gen, its just Rockstar using the same core mechanics that make the GTA series what they are. Its hardly inconvenient, if anything it creates more immersion within the game world.

[QUOTE="Lithos_"]

Crysis plain sucks.

Another thing that sucks is the "Crysis generation", that bunch of noobs that are absolutely incapable of seeing beyond graphics. They must quit gaming, for they do not have the spirit: they don't have what it takes to truly appreciate the experience of gaming. If you don't let yourself go, if you stay "outside" measuring things like textures and so on, you'll never (ever!) immerse yourself in the game's world, therefore won't be able to truly experience it the way it should be.

I played it until the end of the penultimate level: I couldn't go any further, a game is supposed to be fun, but that was a medieval torture, so I quit. Waste of money.

I have the feeling that the game itself was just a pretext to launch that graphic engine of theirs. Bland, hollow, shallow, etc. And ultimately boring...

Good thing I can truly appreciate the freedom to experiment different ways of accomplishing my goals Crysis provides in it's immersive jungle environments by not holding my hand through tightly scripted events. Just gotta look past the graphics to find it.

Agree with AAllxxjjnn.
