It's a pretty big risk as well to imply such a leap in tech within such a big market.
If anything is going to make a change in format first, it's going to be the film industry. While games do sell more, the film industry is more mainstream to the public. It stands a better chance of starting new fads, formats, etc.
Actually, Microsoft didn't want to lose a lot more money on their console than they're losing now. Think about it.
What if Microsoft went with HD-DVD and the HD-DVD format failed? Microsoft just lost millions. What if Microsoft went with Blu-ray and the Blu-ray disc format failed? Microsoft just lost millions.
It is pretty obvious that the extra space is going to be needed, but not in the first generation of next generation games. The thing here is that, if a format is chosen within a year or a couple of years, Microsoft just lost the ability to keep their games on a single disc.
It was a smart choice but with disadvantages. Same could be said about Sony using Blu-ray for their PlayStation 3, a smart choice, but there COULD be consequences. they might not have use the hddvd because of price or availability but either way it shouldnt have been because it might fail. the hd-dvd still plays dvds just like the drive they have now and if it fails it just means you wont be using it to watch hddvd movies and just for dvd's and games that come on hd-dvd's.
i mean come on Sony has Blu-Ray, which all the movies studios r backing but for games its starting at 50 GB! Thats amazing for a disc, but MS coulda atleast made an effort towards there fanbase(and Devoplers) to put in a High Capcity Disc(40gb+) i mean,think about it in the end, it is a game system! Games Need More SPace, what they shoulda done is instead of worring about crappy movies, worry about the game space, they should put in an HVD drive atleast to be ready for the future, i mean, DVD is reaching an end for space when programing games, but atleast putting a HVD drive in it would be giving there fanbase and devoplers able to fight the futureevilBush465
wtf? you expect them to use hvd, thats just stupid:| there is no way for them to put an hvd in the 360.
