I hate it.

First of all, I only buy a handful of new games a year, so subscriptions would probably end up costing me more than just purchasing the games that I really want.

Secondly, there is something that I love about physical media. Digital media just feels less satisfying to me and subscriptions are even worse.

Thirdly, there is a great book called The Paradox of Choice which explains how too much choice can create paralysis and also tends to lead to less satisfaction. I know that I've experienced this many times before. I don't want to have a countless amount of games available to me in a subscription service because that will just make me feel overwhelmed trying to decide what to play and I would be constantly jumping around from game to game without spending enough time to really invest in them. This happened to me a few years back when I tried gaming on emulators and had every game ever made for retro consoles easily available to me. It was too overwhelming and decreased my satisfaction from those games.

Great book, indeed and I have experienced the same problem of feeling overwhelmed with too much choice; I even feel very uncomfortable in big stores where I get lost in the ocean of choices.

Backlog.

At least for me it is.

I have hundreds of games between Steam and the likes, which keep growing because of the damn deals. I end up accumulating all those titles and I'm at the point that I have a hard time deciding what to play or I just play multiple games, switching from one game to another, sometimes ending up not enjoying any.

So, I wonder, maybe LESS is truly MORE?

I continiously tell myself to tackle what I already got and stop adding new ones - and I managed to finish some games - but it's tough to ignore certain deals.

How do you guys handle your libraries?

Linear for the most part, or a small-scale fun open world such as Bully which I remember having a blast

I'll play anything that is not the usual war-like, violence, anguish and gore kind of FPS.

Not always for me, sometimes I just want to play, press start and play, that's it, I don't wanna care about settings or anything else, I just want to get into the game and that's when I prefer consoles, well mostly Nintendo consoles, I'm not sure about Xbox One and PS4, but last gen I hated the long updates on PS3 to the point that it made me stop wanna play on it.

Other times I'm up for it and embrace the more complex and complete experience on Pc and where I'm happy to test and try things out just for the fun of it, to see that extra fps, mods or even cheats.

I like to play on both, but depending on my mood and mental energy I go for either lie back, power up, press start and play on console, or delving into the Pc gaming universe.

I'm looking for games that are a blast to play without necessarily relying on deep/heavy narrative/cinematics, because I feel like I've had enough of shooters and games that take themselves too seriously.

Platform can be any from the 8bit era to the current gen.

To name a few that I played and had a blast:

Katamari Damacy
Catherine
Alien Hominid
Bully
Psychonauts
The Simpsons Game/Hit 'n Run
Mario Kart 8
Crash Team Rarcing
Guacamelee
Rayman Origins
Nintendo World Cup

Could we say that all the games that are easy to get into, with a low learning curve but hard to master are eligible to be considered arcade?

Which games would you consider "arcade-like" these days?

Are arcade-like games a dying breed or they've just evolved, maybe turned into mobile gaming and/or online multiplayer?

Also, should platformers and all games that don't focus on narrative be considered an arcade-like type of experience?

What's your take on the arcade gaming experience of the modern era?

I gave it a 7/10, which is a good score, or at least it used to be; these days it seems to me that everything below 9 is bad. Stupid world we live in.

Play and complete possibly all the games in my backlog, or at least give them a try, which pretty much span from the NES era.

I recently completed Little Nemo: The Dream Master for the NES (a true tough game), now I'm playing through Batman Arkham Origins which is a great game despite not being developed by Rocksteady, but having just finished Little Nemo Batman feels extremely easy, which is good in a way.

Then I'll have to play and finish Metroid Fusion, Crash Bandicoot trilogy and Spyro trilogy for the PS1 on Ps Vita.

It's just too many games to play and to catch up on. I just hate the fact that I have so many games that I bought and never even started.

I'll play catch up for years I guess, I haven't even bought any of the current consoles yet. I'm merely playing games up to the 7th gen.

I guess I'll have to avoid Steam deals and the likes from now on.
