So years back i used to enjoy titles form Jane's simulation (US Navy fighers, etc) and later on a great game was Jane's F-15... So what's available nowadays for decent jet combat flight sims? US Navy fighers for example were simple to learn and fly and i liked that (easy to get friends to join me in gaming). F-15 was much tougher but i also enjoy this for myself.

When i play Vegas 2 with my buddy, we put on a Pandora.com station for Gangster Rap - the rough hard-core type of hip-hop. This makes the game play like 100% funner :D

Command and Conquer series (even the old ones are fun.. maybe even more than newer ones) C&C started it all for RTS (IMO) Specifically - Command and Conquer Generals - Its a completely unique C&C game and a unique RTS. What's unique is that the resource gathering which is simply money is infinite, meaning you can end up cranking out a LOT of money and the game works well with that concept. Units can also be created in massive amounts which makes the game a whole lot of blow-up fun. Highly recommended!!! Definitely get the expansion pack. Company of Heroes - a WW2 RTS and probably my favorite since it came out. The game does it all very well, an all around great job. Constantly evolving. And i'm surprised noone mentioned this: Supreme Commander (and #2) - this has got to be the best evolution of RTS games. Its also a unique concept of energy and mass creation, HUGE terrain (if you PC can handle) and amazing strategic possibilities. You can zoom out to a strategic view or zoom in to ground level. There are various tech levels... and the best part is the automation of the game. You can queue up orders - for example, build 3 factories, give them build orders (before they're complete) and rally points. The really points can then have an air transport automatically pick up units and deliver to destination. Assign additional transports to the rally point for more delivieries... Another feature - templates for bases, you can create a base layout as a template and just "stamp" it on the map and it will get build in the order you set it... you'll understand eventually how important base design is. A very unique approach and probably the best of the best RTS. Got a slight learning curve and probably limitless possibilities - this game really allows you to "strategize" - you do need a powerful CPU (not just graphics) to handle larger unit counts and maps.

oh my... ARMA ww2 mod looks freaking AMAZING... OpFlash (arma) is probably the best all around war sim out there. I'd say its like ww2 online without the massive online part...

Wow, theater of war looks good! Men of War is something i've had an eye on... Achtung Panzer looks reeeeal nice! Sturmovik is definitely a nice game - got that in my collection. PG2 as well - PG and PG2 are one of my favorites of all time. Seems like ww2 Online is really what i'm jonesing for... I've played it the day it came out (so many bugs!) and it was the MOST fun i've ever had in my life of gaming. Its a steep learning curve and it requires a LOT of patience - guess that's why the player base is older and more mature. I can still recollect some guys as if they were my old war buddies... and i even have war stories to tell! :D :D Thank you for the recommendations guys!

I'm an 31 year old gamer and i'm trying to find a good ww2 game that's 'realistic'. I'm thinking something along the lines of a good tank sim such as Panzer Commander or Panzer Elite (not so much.) I'm hoping for a real damage model such as the one in Close Combat (tanks get damaged, tracked, crew killed). I'm not fond of tanks just blowing up like in an arcade game... A good example would also be a game like Operation FlashPoint - long lines of sight, good weapon physics. WW2 Online is also a good example of great physics, being stuck inside the tank etc. I don't care about graphics too much etc.. old games are OK if the game play is rewarding. Basically i'm tired of these arcade-type games... I'm also down for suggestions for a good strategy game and some kind of FPS... Some ww2 or related titles I've enjoyed: Strategy: Close Combat series Panzer General Combat mission (eh..) Company of Heroes (great game) Soldiers (so much potential.... not fully realized game) Panzer Commander Battlefield series Operation Flashpoint Call of duty Wolfenstein (RTCW) Hidden and dangerous Medal of Honor (meh..) I'm sure i'm forgetting some... Anyway, i know there's a flood of ww2 titles out there and i'm browsing around the 'net - i'm hoping there's a diamond in the rough out there somewhere... So far Red Orchestra looks like a promising game... Please let me know what you'd recommend.

If you read my post, Civ 4 and AoE are games i'm familiar with (love em! Civ series = best game ever) but i'm looking for something like toys to play with :) Anyway, i still appreciate your input :D I think Settlers and Dawn of Discovery are kind of what i'm looking for. But let me expand on my original question - what if i emphasize economy? War is fun and all :) but i'd like to play around with resources/economy more so than war. Would your suggestions change?

I love BF1942 Do what I do - I backup (burn to CD/DVD) all patches along with any game i have unless they're tiny (i still have them backed up somewhere else). This way if i wanna revisit something like BF1942, i just toss in a DVD and bam, all my patches are there.
