[QUOTE="popopatrol"]Also look at the DS for another example of a gimmick where the touch screen is hardly ever used more than to display information you could have found in a menu screen. Cherokee_Jack

In the real world, the DS wouldn't be what it is without the touchscreen. It's easy to dismiss it as a gimmick, but if you really look at the better games on DS and the range of stuff it can do with the touch screen, you realize that without it it would just be a souped-up GBA, and clearly it's more than that.

And are you really saying that the 3D will somehow prevent good games from being made on the system? That seems like a really dubious conclusion to jump to.

Zelda and TWEWY are maybe the best games taht actually used both screens well (that I have played admitedly) most games really only use the touch screen for very basic things and don't use it ina way that progresses handheld gaming. So yes it is a souped-up GBA because clearly that 2nd screen is only there for me to glance down at it occasionally and maybe touch to see my items. great idea, poorly implemented so it becomes a mere gimmick.

I think great games will be made on the 3DS no doubt, but those like i said will be far and few between for the reason of 3D. There will be a ton of shovelware the likes of which only nintendo consoles have seen ever since the DS and continued by the wii. I think 3D is totally unnecsissary and instead they should have turned their handheld into something like the tablet pc's that have been coming out with a wider variety of functions (with a bigger emphasis on gaming of course). Also the wii seems to be neglected with all this 3DS talk which is unfortunate but I guess nintendo could care less

3D is not the revolutionary idea that people once thought it was. It is poorly implemented in films and looks to be the main attraction over story, characters, etc. 3D televisions are not selling as well as many would like due to the steep price and requirement of 3D glasses. The amount of 3D content such as televsion shows, 3D movies on bluray, etc is quite dissapointing. 3D gaming looks doesnt look like its going to change this downward trend. 3D games loose their resolution and only a few are actually being produced specifucally for 3D while the upconverts aren't impressive. The emphasis on 3D means that will be the selling point over gamemechanics, and would likely result in bad and content slim games. Sure there will be a few good ones, but those will be few and far between and not justify cost of 3D. Motion controlled gaming, like 3D gaming is another gimmick that uses the novelty to sell. While the millions of wii, move, and future kinect owners may dissagree about it being a gimmick, you only have to look at the games to realize that it is. Most motion controlled games lack depth and content and poorly implment motion controlled technology means only the waggle and aiming is ever used. Also look at the DS for another example of a gimmick where the touch screen is hardly ever used more than to display information you could have found in a menu screen. Sure middle class will eat this up, assuming moms, dads and granparents everywhere are willing to shell out 250 bucks to little Tommy. Add to that the fact that the 3DS is not a multimedia device is a shame in a age where all forms of media is being intergrated through technology. Nintendo may make millions of this, but I for one am quite sad that they are no longer as truly revolutionary as they used to be, instead relying on cultural trends to push product. I understand that as a company they need to make money, however as a gamer I feel somewhat betrayed. With the arrival of so many retro games and old IP's I wonder when if ever nintendo will go back to making new ideas that truly made me happy to be a gamer.

its funny how every developer says that they can magically get more productivity out of the hardware when it really is just that they didnt bother to learn it in the first place and instead wanted to push their product out to make money. The capability has always been there, its the developers who are too lazy

with 50 million pluss units sold worldwide, i don't think the psp is doing bad or will die to the 3DS. 3DS will cost alot more money than people would like and i dont think it will sell as much as people here think. im dissapointed in the 3DS, they should have done a lot more. a device can no longer specialize in one thing (like gaming), it has to be able to perform various functions like a computer intergrating social, art, media, programing, and gaming into one device.

[QUOTE="guerillawar"]Yeah I'm one of those guys who stuck with my N64 from 1996-2010. I need a new console, I heard the 360 slim fixed RROD, and PS3 dropped $400. And Wii is good to get laid, or that's what someone told me. what do you guys think? I like all FPS's, Platformers, but not RTS or RPG's as I used too. I want the better SF4 if I decide to get a 360 or Ps3killzowned24
PS3 Move bundle is the best deal out now. http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-320GB-System-Move-Bundle-3/dp/B002I0K956 320 gigs PS Eye with Move Free Online Bluray PS Home

[QUOTE="popopatrol"]

oh you just mad TC

if the psp was so good then why does the DS have twice the user base? must be the psp has no gaems, psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,psp has no gaems,

gamebreakerz__

Thanks for adding your in depth argument to this thread. Sales mean nothing!!! So go off and play DS with your other 6 year old friends.

as if the original argument was valid in the first place. and you just did what everyone assumes that the DS is for kids, but honestly judging by how strong your opinions are in defendng the psp you yourself must be a kid in thinking such things such as handheld superiority actually matters besides to little 6 year old kids who have nothing in life but their games

[QUOTE="Chopmo81"]

Leaving yourself for stricly PC gaming is a huge mistake.

Rheorin

Says you. I bet you folded to all the big commercials from Microsoft about Halo and Gears of War. I laugh everytime I remember how MS desperately paid Remedy huge $$ to not make Alan Wake for the PC, their platform of dominance. It's so sad that a game with so much potential had to be dumbed-down to a cheap flashlight-simulator.

oh you just mad you cant play it
