[QUOTE="popopatrol"]Also look at the DS for another example of a gimmick where the touch screen is hardly ever used more than to display information you could have found in a menu screen. Cherokee_Jack
In the real world, the DS wouldn't be what it is without the touchscreen. It's easy to dismiss it as a gimmick, but if you really look at the better games on DS and the range of stuff it can do with the touch screen, you realize that without it it would just be a souped-up GBA, and clearly it's more than that.
And are you really saying that the 3D will somehow prevent good games from being made on the system? That seems like a really dubious conclusion to jump to.
Zelda and TWEWY are maybe the best games taht actually used both screens well (that I have played admitedly) most games really only use the touch screen for very basic things and don't use it ina way that progresses handheld gaming. So yes it is a souped-up GBA because clearly that 2nd screen is only there for me to glance down at it occasionally and maybe touch to see my items. great idea, poorly implemented so it becomes a mere gimmick.
I think great games will be made on the 3DS no doubt, but those like i said will be far and few between for the reason of 3D. There will be a ton of shovelware the likes of which only nintendo consoles have seen ever since the DS and continued by the wii. I think 3D is totally unnecsissary and instead they should have turned their handheld into something like the tablet pc's that have been coming out with a wider variety of functions (with a bigger emphasis on gaming of course). Also the wii seems to be neglected with all this 3DS talk which is unfortunate but I guess nintendo could care less
