Shooters - Orange box, Crysis (1 & Warhead), Rainbow Six Vegas(1 &2), Chronicles of Riddick : Escape from Butcher Bay, Gears of War (it's not that bad...lol), STALKER (1 & 2), etc. You might wanna try Counter Strike Source too, if it's your type. Racing - GRID, DiRT, GTR (2 & Evolution), the Flatout games. Others - Thief series & Fallout 3.
I was surprised it received 8.5(?) from GS. I would've given it 7.5 at the most. It's definitely not the worst game of 2008 but not among the best ones either. Ambitious, but too raw and unpolished to be groundbreaking. Another misfire from Ubi, as usual.
I think that you have to find the diamond first because it's still a tutorial mission and you have to do the objectives in order in the tutorial. Just try going out of the map limit and see what happens.....lol. This game was my most anticipated for this year and Ubi screwed it up by implementing annoying respawns, horrible AI, ineffective shooting, repetitive gameplay, looooong travelling distances even with cars(which will break down more than you can fix so you'll prefer to travel by foot afterwards) and worst of all, painfully bad storytelling and voice acting. The only good thing was the graphics which didn't even rival Crysis by a long shot. IMO Ubisoft has some of the most interesting ideas of late, but they just can't seem to exploit them correctly.
Here are my personal choices from the IGN nominees - Best Action - DMC4 (but only because i haven't tried GTA4 yet) Best Graphic Adventure - Sam & Max Season 2 ( have to agree) Best Driving Sim - GRID (spot on) Best RPG - Fallout 3 Best Shooter - Crysis Warhead (why is FarCry 2 even on that list?) Best Strategy - C&C: Red Alert 3 (haven't tried Spore but i'm sure it's not my type) Best Graphics Tech - Crysis Warhead Best Artistic Design - Assassin's Creed Best Multiplayer - Left 4 Dead GOTY - Fallout 3
There's not much of a change in WAW except for the environment and the guns. I'm fairly disappointed with the game, it felt like the devs were scared to stray too far from the COD4 mechanics. It would have been better if they had released it as a WW2 expansion for COD4. Even the storytelling copies Modern Warfare a bit more than is necessary. Try Brothers in Arms instead.
For racing sims, definitely a wheel over gamepad or m/kb. A wheel will feel much better for games like GRID. For arcade-ish type racing games, it's your choice.
With all due respect to The Witcher and The Assassin, nobody can do acrobatics like The Prince. He'd be too quick for the both of them. Besides, with all his sand powers, he's always gonna just slow down and/or rewind time to his advantage. So it's no contest, really......:P
There's a 90% chance you won't regret buying Crysis if you have the right rig. BTW, is Crysis 2 gonna feature more aliens? If so, then it's automatically 1.5 stars less from me. I really hate the alien missions in 1 and Warhead, espicially the "boss" fights.....those scenes felt like some crappy childish console game. I rated the game high mainly because i loved terrorizing the Korean Army. :D
