I'm totally and completely new to Minecraft and have never played it before. I was wondering if anyone might happen to know if Minecraft can be played with other players over the internet like an MMO or even an MMORPG? And if so, how is this done?
I went to my local Best Buy store today and found a World of Warcraft box for $19.99. On the front of the box in fine print it said "first month of play included" and it said a DVD was in the box and it would work for Windows and Mac but that's basically all it said. I was wondering why they felt the need to put it in such a huge double-sized box for? I also found online something called a "battle chest" on Amazon.com which seems to be an even bigger box with lots of stuff inside it for $22 (just two dollars more than the Best Buy store plain box). I was wondering if anyone knows what the differences are between these two boxes?
I was also wondering if I should just download World of Warcraft instead and perhaps update to one of the newer expansion packs instead?....
I'm just getting started in gaming again after a long absence. I have noticed that Minecraft has become popular in recent years and also some other voxel building knock-off's as well. There seems to be quite a lot of them out there now actually. Can anyone recommend an alternative voxel builder to Minecraft or should I just stick to trying Minecraft for my first voxel builder?
I was doing some reading about the new Valve Steam gaming console. Apparently, it was released about 3 weeks ago. Their touting it's purpose being to plug a gap between PC gaming and console gaming, which sounds like a good idea. It runs the Linux operating system, but Linux isn't exactly known for having a large selection of games. Quite the contrary, Linux has very few games for it.... at best. Being an "open source" platform, I'm wondering if the true purpose of this console will be to allow the gaming community to develop "indie" games for it? I can't see much in the way of commercial titles being released for an open source Linux games platform. Maybe I'm wrong...
