@omar_q The $1.6 million that players put into the upcoming TI3 prize pool by buying compendiums would like to have a word with you on the longevity of the game and how it is going to fail.
@ThreeVo Since you're not playing DOTA2 right now, I can assume you haven't seen the tutorial system that they've put in place (or rather added to heavily in anticipation of the launch). Is it perfect? No, but it does give a good jumping in point to a game that thrives on its complexity and depth.
The double edge is that yeah, newcomers may be put off by denying (funny you would mention this and not tie it in with last hitting, the only difference being you kill your creeps as well, what you find so difficult for new players I don't know), but the thing is you don't have to do it to still play the game and have fun with it. It would be like saying that bunny hopping is a difficult thing to do and therefore Quake (and the countless others) has such a harsh learning curve for those stepping in the waters. You don't have to deny the creeps, in fact if you're new the best thing you can do is focus on the simple things, the ones that you can handle, and last hitting is generally not the new players strong point.
Give the player some time and yeah he can pick up these more advanced concepts. But if you don't think that they add anything to the game, I would seriously question how much you've played with and without it. Heck I had a game the other day where I kept pace with my kills in the midlane on denying their mid and what happened? The guy didn't get any farm and was underleveled, which especially shut down their ganker. Not to mention the peace of mind I had in being close to my tower by keeping the creep equilibrium steady with denies. Gold on death is also pretty important, but I'll leave it at that.
I can almost see where Mattrick is coming from and yet the issue isn't whether there is value in the box; the problem is your price point when compared to your competitors. The PS4 will launch cheaper and allow roughly the same amount of bells and whistles that MS loves to tout (sure it won't have smartglass, but seriously who needs that). And the WiiU, should anyone want to buy that one, can get it also cheaper.
The biggest issue I have with MS this upcoming generation is that they seem to have forgotten that we bought the console to play games, not doing other things. Sure they can be nice, but it was never my primary focus because I already had a method of accessing Netflix or what have you. And I am not even discussing my issues with the other decisions such as the Kinect requirements, the used games, the always online.
This thing could make toast and heat my home for all I care, value is not necessarily what a company dictates that it is, but rather what the consumer feels they are getting in exchange for their money.
To be honest I'm actually quite surprised that they are moving forward with a full release. While GoDZ pretty much summed it up in that you can get into the game with minimal effort (I think the beta keys go for roughly 3 pennies on the marketplace) there are still some wrinkles that the community has with it.
For one, there is the vocal minority that are up in arms with the mute system. Even though Valve has come out and issued a statement that approximately 1% of the population is getting the mutes, they still love to dispute this (even calling the release a straight up lie). I would have figured that Valve had a few more tweaks to this before going to live, but ohwell I am satisfied with the system as it is.
I also thought they would have released more heroes from DOTA before going live. Abaddon and Legion Commander are reportedly close, but there are still a good half a dozen that need to be ported over. Again, this isn't really a big deal. It just means that we'll continue to get parity patches that have notes for heroes we just don't have yet.
No matter how you want to spin the opening momentum coming out of the gate people are giving Microsoft backlash for good reason. If they cannot build up the fervor from the get-go then just how well do they think they are going to do in the long run?
Outrageous pricing, paying for XBL again (undoubtedly), I don't even want to guess what the cost of the games are going to be and the probability of paying for used games and that is putting aside online connectivity and its emphasis on content other than games!
Take it as slow and steady as you want Microsoft, but coming from a consumer that spent quite a lot on his 100+ 360 games you can count me out of this race and I really don't care when it is you cross the proverbial finish line.
I have an interest in Shadowrun, backed the Returns kickstarter and will undoubtedly enjoy that one. The online game sounded like I would make a stop, but now that I have heard this, they can keep their game.
They would do well to release the information now, while I am and many others are still following it. Otherwise, I'm sure that what little interest and redeeming qualities I see in the system now will dwindle down and there will be no hope of them making a sale for me.
They may wish to evaluate their final decision, watch the flak they get, see what will be best for their bottom line, etc. But I don't believe they are factoring in the bad press they receive even with rumors floating around. Put them to bed or deal with them firestorm.
Oh who am I kidding of course they did. Gears of War Puzzle Blaster would sell millions on the damn name alone. I stopped after two, but ohwell to each his/her own I suppose and I suppose somewhere, someone is happy about forking out more cash for this thing.
@justicetamer @Dejanji Because they don't post anything for LoL; not much to say about it really, it didn't exactly raise a million dollars in prize money in less than a month now did it?
But in all honesty, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other if your MOBA of choice is different from any other persons. Play LoL, or HoN, or hell play SMITE, just enjoy it the game you like best. Coming into a news article, and posting that you're tired of people comparing the two games doesn't really ring true when you do the exact same thing.
In other words, if it bothers you so much, why fan the flames?
