Also, not every upscaler is good you know. Did you read reviews to check which ones are the best. You need to spend atleast $200 or so, like an Oppo.

Don't expect anything amazing when you do get HDMI even with the best upscaler.

That's not accurate. Due to CSS encryption upconverting DVD players must use an HDMI (or DVI) connection. The max output you can upscale with component cables is 480p. The 360 gets around this by using VGA connections.

Looks like Blu-Ray is not needed for Games

or

Movies.

Upscaling 480i content (DVD) is not nearly the same thing as having 1080p source content found on HD-DVD or Bluray. It's a band-aid at best.

I wonder how long till someone claims that most of the PS2 sales were due to people having to buy 3 or 4 systems because of DRE's and such.  Always amusing.  And of course they'll include the obligatory story about how they personally or someone they knew did exactly that.

From what I can tell from myspace, it means we would be playing a lot of games with chicks that look hot in blurry pictures but are fat pigs in real life.

Uh, I could be wrong but don't VGA and Component both do 1080p?

Yes, but many HDTV's won't accept 1080p via component or VGA.

Well that's a problem with the TV, not the original Xbox360. I was responding to someone saying the 360 wouldn't be able to provide a 1080p resolution. I don't understand why adding HDMI to a future 360 revision makes the current one unable to provide 1080p. If the cables, and the TV can handle it. Then current 360 owners can watch 1080p just fine.

What if you want Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD for lossless audio? You can only get that via HDMI.

Don't feel bad. Having no credit card debt is better than having an HDTV any day ;)

Agree 100%.

Pay cash or use an interest free financing plan. Or do what I did. Put it on an AAdvantage Mastercard and get airline miles for it then pay it off before you get your statement and avoid any interest charges.

Samsung 56" 1080p,  Infinity center and towers, Infinity 10" Sub, ceiling mounted Infinity surrounds, 60GB PS3, premium Xbox 360 (not shown, friend borrowing).
