I played ESO beta. It sucked. While I'm sure improvements have been made to the game since then, I generally only give a company one chance to impress me before laying down any money. They failed at that. The only thing that would cause me to give it another shot would be if my gaming buddies all decided to go back and play it. The odds of that happening are pretty close to zero.
I'm sorry you guys got burned. But maybe now you'll think twice next time you lay out cash for a F2P game, or any pre-release for that matter. The whole concept of F2P in nearly every carnation I've seen has been to screw people out of as much money as possible. I'm so tired of this greedy model. It's NOT free people! Game companies can't afford to put out free games. The idea is completely ludicrous. What ever happened to companies making the best, most fun game they can and then charging a fair price for it? It's dead apparently. The new business model is to go after the 2% who make more money than they can spend and don't care about throwing a few hundred dollars in the toilet every month. If you can't afford it or you have enough common sense to abstain from throwing your hard-earned money away, then these games weren't designed for you and the developers/publishers don't give a rat's ass about you. Welcome to the new and improved gaming industry. I'm going to go puke now.
Rift had great potential too and look at it now. After all this time and a shiny new expansion, the gameplay there is still boring as hell. I've learned long ago not to buy a game based on its "potential". And I won't be buying this game until I see a ton of glowing reviews and I'm certainly not seeing them so far. After being burned several times over the years after diving into new online games, I refuse to do it again. I'm not going to support a game or its developers because it has potential.
I'm waiting to see how things play out with this game. Nothing about it strikes me as great. I have friends playing it but until the good outweighs the bad, I'll hold off. I suspect I'll pass on it completely and play GW2 when it arrives.
Fact is, the more people that pick up WAR, the better it will get.
Couldn't agree more. It's such a great game, just not enough players.
I played WAR when it first came out. I hear they have improved it since then, but unfortunately, when a developer releases a steaming pile, they can polish it up all nice and shiny later, but first impressions are hard to overcome. Same thing happened with Age of Conan.
