now dont get me wrong i like home(dont love it but its alright) but seriously sony have been delaying this for 2 years saying they are fixing bugs adding new features whatever and i know that there's gonna be new stuff coming constantly which is gr8

but after 2 years of hype when they finally launch it all they've made availible is a theatre, bowling alley, and an empty shopping centre which i find pretty dissapointing what abt the resistance, motor storm, heavenly sword spaces we've seen and the red bull flying thing and the trophy room which i think should've been done by now considering it was shown at E3, and no photo frames, no TV's, nothing in the house only a couple of chairs and tables

CMON sony u could've done a better job and if they were thinking abt giving us this in the 1st place they could've launched it straight away when the PS3 was launched as it is very limited

dats what i thought of Home hope we get to see new areas soon and some new clothes, furniture etc (freebies sony)

ps3roxxx

Sorry, but a few things incorrect about what you said.

(1) Sony never "hyped" it -- it is the users and reviewers who did all the "hyping". Some of these users didn't know what Home is to begin with. All Sony did was say that they are developing it -- in the absence of tv commercials, Superbowl ads, etc., I find it hard to believe that you call what they did as "hyping".

(2) The word "delay" implies that something was promised on some date and it was then *delayed* after. Sony never promised a date -- at least, not a date 2 years ago. No company delays software "on purpose" because the longer it takes, the later it is for Sony to see the "fruits of their labor".

(3) Home could not have been released when PS3 was launched. It is hard to build a system where multiple simultaneous users can connect and not crash the system.

(4) Home is already free. On top of that, you want more freebies?

Hi,

Something like this happened to me before just when I got the unit. It would shut down at random. Scared me...of all the PS3 units in the store, how could I get *this* one. As it turned out, the power cable between the wall and the PS3 was loose. I pushed it in very hard (don't over do it :) ) and since then, no problems -- it's been over a year.

Not saying this is your problem, but try everything you can before you return it. It may be that something knocked it before and it isn't in correctly since. Of course, also try plugging it into another wall socket. It may be a problem with the wall socket...who knows? If you plug your PS3 into a power bar and you have a spare in the home (i.e., don't buy a new one), replace that, too. See if any of this works...

Good luck!

I dont think it's completely region-free. I asked the staff at computer exchange and they said that it depends on the developer if they want to region-lock the game or not.

Leunga

That is a very good point, even with DVDs. Yes, DVD players (and the PS2/3) have region encoding in their players, but it is up to the publishers to abide by them. They can just as well release Region 0 discs...I am not sure if the law says they have to put a region down. (I have seen Region 0 discs before.) Of course, DVD have the other PAL/NTSC problem...

If they re-released the 20 gb, they could slap a small price on it and it would appeal to casuals. Nobody wants to shell out $400, or even $500 for this new 160 gb. Agree?rsoxguy12

While the hard drive sizes (20 GB, 60 GB, etc.) refer to the hard disk, a better way to think of them is that they're labels for the various models. Hard disks are so cheap...shrinking them isn't going to cause a significant impact on the price. They have to remove more from the PS3 and the more they remove, the more it hurts us -- yes, us who already own a PS3. Why? Because developers create games for the lowest denominator. If Sony lowers the denominator, then yes, more people can buy it, but the games won't be as powerful. i.e., older PS3s have 4 USB ports, now they only have 2 -- that means any game made might use 4 USB ports, but developers can no longer assume that...they assume you have 2.

Would be annoying if some game is released and it says "For the PS3 (60 and 80 GB models only)". It is for this reason why I gave up on PC gaming...no more reading the packages about the OS version, video card, sound card, etc. If it says "PS3", then my system can play it.

Sony has run a business far longer than even Microsoft -- since the 1940s. I think they know what they're doing...

no, its just another way of saying "NOW". anyway, i made it. now whats all these things ive heard about LBP demo and HOME on the japanese PSN? i cant find neither. i mean, these guys seem to have gotten mirrors edge only last week! what??? wheres all the "good stuff"?escapeoftheape

I'm not sure where you've heard that we (here in Japan) had LBP and HOME demos.  I don't recall ever seeing it.  As for Mirror's Edge, honestly, it was never big here...not really advertised well in the magazines, etc.  I actually thought it wasn't going to come here, to tell you the truth.  LBP is out, but for the weeks and months leading to its release, again, I don't remember seeing any news about it.  Well, by this, I mean nowhere to the level of news/hype that I was seeing on Gamespot...

Just a whole lot of RPGs...oh, and plenty of anime!  Just kidding...sort of.  :)

[QUOTE="farleybt"]Are you serious?Scianix-Black

I don't know why, but after seeing everyone's sympathetic responses, this one made me laugh.

Me too! :)

I would suggest to do nothing other than not leave it on the roof of your car. :)  Wherever you are (the OP), I presume you are not in Japan where I think is the only place that makes PS3s.  (Is this true?).  Do you know how far those PS3s travelled to get to the store?  Perhaps by cargo ship or the cargo hold of a plane where it is freezing.  Then, they were trucked from the airport or port to the store and who knows how many distribution centres in between.  I doubt any of them care enough to keep the PS3s warm.  Perhaps they are packed well in crates, but the crates and the foam wrapping inside doesn't keep the hard disk head from moving.  After all that, it is fine...  Sorry, I mean "fine"; maybe that is the cause of the YLOD...  :)

As an aside, have any of you seen how luggage are loaded and unloaded from a plane; some staff at some airports literally throw them.  Regardless of what I just said above, I would definitely take a PS3 as carry-on on a plane...

Anyway what do you guys think and also do any of you know about the warenty, I have heard to many things about drives failing, YLOD. I don't wanna take chance and my ps3 be one of those who want to die, its better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for all the help.

theMarshell

If you are worried about something breaking then the best thing is to not buy it.  Things will break and while the chance for a PS3 is low, the chance is still not 0%.  The only thing you can do is preventative measures...and others can advise you on that.  But there is nothing you can do to prevent a manufacturer defect.

It's almost like being so worried about getting into an accident that you won't buy a car.  That's silly; but what you can do is learn how to drive safely and wear your seatbelt.  You still can't control everything...like whether or not everyone around you drives safely.

Most of my gaming I do on the PC, but I'm thinking of changing platforms. What are the advantages of PS3 compared with a PC (build for gaming...ofcourse) ?codrutz

I personally gave up gaming on a PC ever since I got the PS1 10 years ago.  The advantage of a PC over *any* console is that you don't need to upgrade parts of the PC anymore.  i.e., the graphics card one year and then the memory next year.  A console offers uniformity and while yes, you would "have to" upgrade the console from PS1 to PS2 to PS3, while you have that console, you can be guaranteed that any game that says "for PS3" will work.  No more reading the side of the game box every time or getting something for the kids/grand kids and wondering if you got the right one.

Consoles are made for gaming and have an operating system built for it.  So, while PCs have a more general OS, consoles have a smaller one made for one purpose.

The downside of console gaming is that consoles are only for gaming.  While a PS3 can support a keyboard via USB, game makers cannot assume that, as they can with a PC.  So, a lot of the PC games that require many keys on a keyboard aren't available on consoles.  And if they do, the game makers have to find ways to get around it.

As for which console, well, technically, the PS3 is more superior, but you should probably see what games each console has that you like and pick based on that.  I have the PS3, but I can't say it is for everyone.  And if you pick a console based on what it can do in (say) 1-2 years from now, then you lose 1-2 years of gaming...so pick based on today as well as the future.

Hope this helps!

i've tried every possible solution i found on the internet and no use. seems that my ISP doesn't support PSN so now way i can go online unless i change my ISP or any new ideas?Kratos_99

It would be very strange if your ISP doesn't support PSN.  Why?  Because they don't have to do much to allow you access; in fact, they have to do more work to disallow you access.

Maybe you should contact Sony -- I mean, the Sony closest to your home.  And ask them if any customers of your ISP [give them the name] has had complains about getting on the PSN.  If so...change your ISP.  :-)

Also, does anyone you know have a locally purchased PS3 and can get on the PSN fine?

Hi there everybody...

i live in lebanon (Middle East) and i have a ps3 which i bought from a gulf country about a year ago

it has been working on PSN all the time there but when i came 2 lebanon it didnt work at all!

NOTICE : its a NTSC-Jp version , so i was thinking that maybe because lebanon is a pal country , its PSN can't work on NTSC systems , and if so should i have 2 buy a new PAL one?

please, experts , HELP!!?

Kratos_99

Having an NTSC machine in a PAL country *is* a problem, and contrary to what some people say, it has nothing to do with the region of PS3 discs.  NTSC/PAL affects VCRs, TVs, etc.  However, it is related to the video signal and has nothing to do with whether or not you can connect to the PSN.  I've tried an NTSC machine in a PAL TV and, if I recall, the screen was completely jumbled up -- like "snow".

That doesn't seem to be your problem, so don't worry about it.  BTW, NTSC/PAL is related to your country, but you can sometimes buy a TV that is not from your region.  i.e., you might be able to find an NTSC TV in Lebanon.  Or, a dual NTSC/PAL tv.  It depends on the country (some sell it, others don't or cannot?).
