quite surprised, but another AE for the PS3 makes it all better. :`)

ScoreboardHeil68

I own a 360, and do not own a PS3, but if that scoreboard is correct, the PS3 is having a much better year so far. The 360 does have Forza4 and Gears3 on the horizon, and I would think both of those would be AAAE, but other than those 2, I'm not sure what else is out there. There's 3 or 4 Kinect games that look promising, but I doubt they'll go any higher than AE? Meanwhile, the PS3 still has Uncharted3, Resistance3, The Last Guardian, Twisted Metal, and Agent coming down the pike. It looks like this will be PS3's year by a pretty comfortable margin.

The PC is just a whole different animal with no fixed specs and constantly evolving hardware. Of course a PC that's always running the latest hardware is going to be superior to the 5 or 6 year old 360/PS3. Shouldn't that just be taken as a given? It's kind of ridiculous to compare something that can't change to something that never stops changing and improving.

Then, of course, there's the money involved. With a 360/PS3/Wii, you're paying $400 or less. Anyone know of a top-of-the-line gaming PC that can be gotten for anywhere close to that? At minimum you're going to pay double that, but if you really want to get the best of the best you could be spending 5 to 6 times that or more (upwards of $2500). And if you want to stay on the cutting edge, the cost doesn't end there because you'll be spending the equivalent of a 360/PS3 every year or two upgrading hardware.

To use an analogy, it's like we're comparing the 2005 Mustang (360), the 2006 Camaro (PS3), the 2006 Smart Car (Wii), with whatever the fastest car that money can buy currently is at the time of the comparison (PC).

So yeah, the PC is superior, big surprise there, but why even bring it up?

Wow, an 8.0?? Ouch!!! It's not just Gamespot either, a lot of game sites are pretty underwhelmed.

If it wasn't clear before, it should be now, Forza Motorsport is the undisputed king of the console racing sims. I think most people realized that already, but wanted to see what the latest Gran Turismo had to offer before they passed judgement.

I was going to give this game or Forza Motorsport 3 to my brother for Christmas (he has both a 360 and PS3).....looks like he's getting Forza.

I've been in a gaming mood recently and bought a bunch of games I missed playing when they were released. In the past 3 weeks I've played:

God of War 2 (PS2) - Loved it. 95/100

Resident Evil 5 (360) - Pretty good. 85/100

Batman: Arkham Asylum (360) - Loved it. 93/100

I got a bunch more games queued up as well (not sure when/if I'll get to them all):

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance (PS2)
Mass Effect (360)
Mass Effect 2 (360)
Fallout 3 (360)
Halo 3 (360)
GTA: Episodes from Liberty City (360)

Most articles comparing the versions say the 360 has better graphics and better performance (here's an example: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-call-of-duty-black-ops-faceoff). The PS3 version runs at a slightly lower resolution, the colors look a little more washed out, there's some screen-tearing that isn't there in the 360 version, and the framerate isn't as smooth as on the 360.

It should be noted that this was true of previous Call of Duty games as well (Modern Warfare 2, World at War, etc.). So if you didn't notice or care about the difference in those games, I don't see why you would care now. It's not like the PS3 version looks or performs "bad", it's just slightly behind the 360 version.

I could tell you to look at the North American numbers that show the 360 outselling the PS3, even widening its lead, but then I'd be diving into these sales figures arguments that I really despise....

Sales figures are meaningless unless they are so skewed as to affect whether games will be made for one console. That's not the case, and will never be the case for the 360 or PS3 (at least until the next gen consoles are released). Both are doing fine and companies will continue to make great games for both.

I just don't get the focus on sales figures in System Wars. It's not like anyone here get's something extra if the 360 outsales the PS3, or vice versa, so what's the point? I mean, it's interesting to see where the market is at, but beyond that, who cares?

There are these wonderful things called opinions. Bayonetta's wackiness is off-putting for some people.

Upparoom

I concur with this statement. I don't even own a PS3 but I loved God of War 1 & 2 for the PS2. Greek Mythology on it's own is pretty damn cool, and I love how God of War puts the player right in the middle of it.

Bayonetta may have the tightest controls and best gameplay ever seen in an action game, but it just seems a little too weird for my taste.

Medal of Honor should be on there. I don't know how well it's selling but it's one of the few games that had TV commercials all over the place prior to its release. They tried their best to portray it as a COD killer, but the reviews have generally been "meh..." And now that Black Ops is out, its window for sales is pretty much closed.

Yet another thread about sales figures.....sigh

The funny thing is this is from the very same article:

Divnich went on to note that Microsoft may retain its lead in North America, at least, indefinitely.

"North America is a tougher challenge, and as we have seen lately, Microsoft's lead is widening," he continued. "I don't know if the PS3 will ever overtake the Xbox 360 in North America. Maybe 2014? 2016? We do know the PS3 has incredible long-term value as a Blu-ray player, much like the PlayStation 2 did as a DVD player. But with strong competition coming from the digital front, one has to wonder if the PS3 will receive long retail legs like its predecessor did."article

So, the PS3 may catch the 360 in worldwide sales, but will probably never overtake the 360 in North America (if anything the 360's lead is "widening").

Woohoo....I guess....

As a 360 owner, what do I win if the 360 stays ahead in sales figures?

"Nothing", you say?

Well then, what do I lose if the PS3 overtakes the 360?

"Nothing", again?

Hmmm....it's almost like sales figures are kinda meaningless....but with all the threads in System Wars discussing sales figures that can't be, can it?

[QUOTE="redbird19"]

All these threads comparing numbers of consoles sold are hilarious. Unless you're invested in Sony stock at the exclusion of MS stock (or vice versa) why do you care?

blue_hazy_basic

You're in a forum called SW ....

Yeah, so let's talk about, you know, the systems, and not compare business plans, marketing, or stock prices.

It's like you all are arguing about sports and arguing which team is better by comparing payroll numbers or number of bobble-heads sold, instead of talking about rosters, win-loss record, or style of play, etc.
