1. Sony has had great IP's come from their developers. Unfortunatley none of these are system sellers to any extent. This does not give Sony an edge , but does appease the smallest part of their install base the self proclaimed 'Hardcore Gamer'
2. If development cost does actually double, expect multiplats to look the same across the board for consoles. What's the best way to shave cost, quit making double the assets and doing twice the work. If games look the same then the average consumer will not be swayed to go Sony.
3. Sony wants to believe consumers take pride in shelling out money for the most exspensive hi tech console - They will continue to be wrong
Microsoft wants to believe that the average consumer wants to pay for an online service - they will continue to be right
4. It took Sony's 3rd iteration of the PS machine 6+ years to marginally pass Microsoft's 2nd iteration of the Box. What does that mean. Look at the numbers , Sony's competitors have absorbed a large part of their previous install base.
5. Gimmicks. Every console used and abused these this gen and it worked. Every console had a healthy install base. Sony's best gimmick was Blue ray. If Blue ray has any importance to gaming it is yet to be seen. There will not be people lining up day one to get their hands on a blue ray player with gaming potential.
