If you are really thinking of advanced gameplay.. a gpu sure is one primary factor... but unfortunately I think your other factors are lacking too. 8 GB is the sweet spot with Windows 7, and the CPU... ahhh.. It think you could do better if your're board supports an FX 6300 that'd be a fntastic budget level CPU, Iwouldn't go lower in my opinion if your're thinking about serious gaming.. I suggest even with your existing Vid card you'd see a good increase in performance, but the 7790 is just under a legible specs a 7850 wulda been about the mark for a good gaming experience, 7790 I think is more of a multimedia type equivalent, plays games yet not all that well. a 760 is pretty good, but your other factors lacking.. I dunno.. I would turn it into an awesome multimedia machine... alotta people want a good small working well machine for general tasks and a few games.. pawn it off and get a 'gaming' machine.. FX6300, 760, 8gb, really nice at 1080p! Sorry for the sorta negativity.
Thanks for the comments. My dilemma is quiet like this:
-Should I upgrade my cpu immediately (for instance to fx 6300), sticking to amd brand and save money for a better gpu (equivalent of gtx760 but with less power consumption)
-Should I change my mainboard, buy an intel cpu (i5-4690k) and keep by existing gpu (hd 7790)
The games I like to play:
NBA 2K13, NFS: HP (I can max them with my current system, no upgrade needed)
Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, Dishonored, The Witcher 2 (I can run them quite smoothly, hard to max them at full hd, upgrade not urgent)
NBA 2K15 (Game is unplayable on full hd, serious upgrade needed)
Potential buys:
Far Cry 4, the new Mordor game, FIFA 15 (I guess I need some upgrade to enjoy them)
So, what is the bottleneck of my system?
Phenom II X3 720 BE, 4 gb 1600 mhz RAM, HD 7790 or the weaknesses in NBA 2K15 PC optimization?
