Nintendo as a whole, seems to have just about given up on marketing. I'm 39, and I remember that even in the late 1980's, when no one else could touch the NES, Nintendo still ran commercials all the time. Yes, the company has other issues, but I have no doubts that they could have sold more Wii U's if they'd bothered to market the console, aside from the reveal event. A lot of people didn't even know that the console existed, or that it wasn't an add-on to the original Wii. Or that it was/is 100% backwards compatible with all Wii games or accessories, or that it upscales original Wii games to 720p. That last one, I found out about from a YouTube reviewer. As far as marketing goes, Nintendo NEEDS to do what they did with NES (and pretty much every other console they made) and run commercials on TV, and the internet, on a consistent basis.
