Rocket Slime is Coming

Rocket Slime is coming out on September 19. It is a game for Nintendo DS. Since I own only one DS game so far, I definitely look forward to getting Rocket Slime. It is a spin-off title of my favorite video game series: Dragon Quest. The main character in the game is a slime, which is the weakest of all monsters in the series. I recall fighting slimes when starting out my very first RPG, which is Dragon Warrior. (Dragon Quest was known as Dragon Warrior in the U.S. because of Trademark laws.) Slimes are in every single Dragon Quest game, and some slimes are friendly and helpful. In the world of Rocket Slime, all of the slimes are good creatures that become victimized by a gang of wicked monsters known as the Plob. Rocket’s mission is to rescue all his friends and send the Plob gang to jail. The game comes out soon. In the meantime, I hang-out with other fans of the Dragon Quest series at slimeknights.com. I also talk to my peers at Game Spot’s Dragon Quest Union. At myspace.com, I befriend Rocket and chill with his friends at the Rocket Slime group. On occasion, I read Truman’s Slimeblog at Square Enix’s Rocket Slime Official Site. With whatever time is left, I play my old Dragon Warrior games. Time flies when I’m having fun, and I know that September 19 will be here before I know it. Then, I’ll be busy playing the game so that I could become one of the first to write reviews for it, which would serve to help others learn more about the fabulous Dragon Quest series.

Dragovian Trials

Last night, I completed all of the Dragovians Trials from Dragon Quest VIII. Once I acquired Tembrels of Tension, completing the Trials was a breeze. My characters were around level 50. Whenever I managed to get Jessica to tension to 100, I had her cast Magic Burst, which inflicted 5,000+ damage on my opponent. Most of the time, I had Yangus and Jessica use Tembrels of tension to psych up the party, Angelo focused on healing, and Hero did the attacking. Psyching up the party helped boost the potency of Angelo's mulit-heal. The only dragon form that Magic Burst didn't work on was dark steel dragon-- magic doesn't work on it. So then, I kept my strategy mostly the same-- Hero used Thunder Thrust instead of his usual attack. I checked Gamefaqs for tips. It said to have a couple of monster teams ready for emergencies, but I never used them. The need to use them never arose. Members of my party died many times, but Angelo and Jessica cast Kazing whenever that happened. I should've gone to bed before fighting the Dark Steel Dragon, but I got so hooked onto wanting to beat all the Trials that I kept playing the game way late, last night. (I went to bed at 3am.) After completing the Trials, I fought Rapthorne to witness the second ending. It is less exciting than the first ending, but it seems like the best for folks that care about propriety. The second ending involves more diplomacy regarding canceling Medea's marriage to Prince Charmles. At the same time, it feels annoyingly proper, because it's as though Hero is now obligated to marry Medea because of the promise his grandpa made many years ago. Both endings are equally worthwhile. The first ending is good because it is exciting, and the second is also good because of the peaceful resolution.

Rocket Slime Coloring Contest

The Rocket Slime Official Site is hosting a coloring contest. People of all ages can enter. Prizes for the best entries include a slime bean bag chair, Nintendo DS Lite, Rocket Slime video game and strategy guide, slime keychain, and slime cell phone cleaner. Slime Knights is also awarding mini-medals to site members that complete the coloring contest. I already submitted a screenshot of my contest entry. However, I decided to improve it after I made my submission. I first colored the picture without any highlights & shadows. That is what I submitted. After doing that, I worked on it some more. Here is what I will submit to Square Enix:

I'm #3!

At Slime Knights, there is a list of top members ranked according to their current number of mini-medals. I am number three on the list. What are mini-medals? They they are form of currency on Slime Knights. People earn them by doing various activities on the site, and people can spend them on prizes. So far, I have earned 155456 mini-medals. I have enough to purchase an MP3 Player or subscription to New Type magazine, but I do not want these badly. I hope for better prizes that pertain to my tastes to become available for purchase, later on. In the meantime, I keep hoarding them like Scrooge McDuck.

Prospective Romance

For those that care to read my blog, I announce to you that I feel romantically curious about one of the moderators at Slime Knights. I notice this guy changed his profile to show interests similar to ones that I used to post. When news about Slime Knights members creating myspace profiles became the big news, I decided to read his profile. I was surprised to see he and I share quite a bit in common. In one of his blogs, he answered a bunch of questions, some of them pertaining to romance, and his answers are the same as how I would answer them. I told him about this, and he suggested that I read his livejournal. So, I added him as a friend at livejournal, and I began reading his blogs. I learned that he went through some tough times, similar to what I went through. His dad was abusive, and he issued an ultimatum for him to move out by a certain date. I experienced the same thing, a few years ago. Here, we have a guy that not only likes video games, but he is single, his romantic values are the same as mine, he shares other interests me as well, such as anime, learning foreign languages, cooking, psychology, and video game music. To top that off, we went through similar life-changing experiences. What else am I missing? Oh right. He is Mormon. Now, to delve into some family history. My mom grew up in a Mormon family. My dad did, as well. My parents marriage started okay, until my dad got into drugs and alcohol, which my mom didn't like. She got into them a little because of her husband, but she knew it was bad, she needed to get away from her bad influence, so she divorced her husband. Feeling disillusioned by the experience, she converted to Christianity. (My mom says that she wasn't that strong of a Mormon. Well, Mormons are forbidden to consume alcohol, anyways.) She then took my brother and I to Christian churches on Sundays. At some point, she fell in love with my step-father, had sex with him, felt guilty about the non-marital sex, so then she married him. My step-father's parents are Christian, but he seemed more spiritual than religious. Well, I basically grew up in a Christian family, but I had a bunch of Mormon relatives. At family gatherings, we didn't drink any soda, because my relatives couldn't have any caffeine for religious reasons. Upon learning about that, I decided to stop drinking soda, altogether. (I don't drink coffee, either.) I naturally can't stand cigarettes, but Mormons aren't allowed to smoke, which is a plus. I don't know much about the Mormon religion because I grew-up in a Christian household, but I feel that I can get along real well romantically with a Mormon. Even though I grew up in a Christian household, I felt that Christianity wasn't the religion for me. I felt very strongly about the unity of all religions, equality of women and men, and harmony of science and religion. These are principles that the Baha'i Faith teaches, but since I didn't hear about it until after I was 21 years old, as a 19-year old, I chose to affiliate with none of the existing religions. Once I learned about the Baha'i Faith, I felt that it rings true to me, and I signed my declaration card in April 1998. There are many similarities between the Baha'i Faith and the Mormon religion. Both began in the 1800s and believe in Christ's return as Holy Spirit in flesh. (Edit: I changed this due to my lack of knowledge of the LDS church, but I recently found correct info.) Both Faiths believe that marriage is eternal. I suppose there are more similarities, but I have not yet looked into them. (I should probably do so, because most of my family is Mormon...) I would be open to dating a Mormon, and perhaps marrying one. I wonder if that Slime Knights Moderator would be open to doing the same with a non-Mormon? I don't know, but from what I know of him so far, I think he is pretty cute. He may be fat, and I normally feel attracted to men that are muscular (not fat), but when there is love, looks don't matter at all. I have seen his face in his pictures, and his face looks cute. He posted his cell phone number on his livejournal blog. I telephoned him a few times, and from his voice mail message and our conversations, I feel that he is a very sweet guy. I would like to talk to him some more, but I worry about intruding on his busy life. I don't want to appear like a stalker. Really, I'm just curious about him... and spiritually attracted to him. In his recent entries, he posted his new address for where he lives now. He requested post cards. I didn't send him any... I wanted him to talk to me! Today, I decided to send him a post card. I hope he'll like that. It is quite a feat getting the attention of someone that has hundreds of friends. So, I take care in showing my interest in him through gentle means, such as comments to his blog posts and voice mail messages on his cell phone. Ha, I imagine that he already knows of my interest in him. I'm not exactly the most subtle person in the world. Now, this blog post makes it highly obvious. If the other Slime Knights moderator reads this, I predict that he will bring this to the attention of the moderator that I have been writing about.

Kasnooze

I mixed classical music with video recordings of Dragon Quest VIII. Solveg's Song was my pick because it is classical music, and it is a fairly short song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQDr17yk3OU

NAMI Walks, Arizona - 2006

Last weekend, I participated in NAMI Walks for my state. NAMI Walks is a fundraiser for mental health programs across America. While on the walk, I brought my Dragon Quest VIII T-Shirt, and I got my picture taken wearing it. For the walk, I decorated one of my hats with slime monsters from the video game. I had to wear a team uniform during the duration of the walk, but I could wear whatever I wanted on my head. ;-)

Dragon Quest Trivia

Last week at Slime Knights, there were trivia questions posted each day. I answered all five correctly. Now, according to King Slime, those that answer all questions correctly should now receive 1000 bonus mini-medals and be entered into a bonus round. I haven't yet gotten the bonus mini-medals, nor have I gotten email regarding the bonus round. The bonus round consists of questions emailed to the qualifying individuals. The first to answer all of the questions correctly will receive 2000 more bonus mini-medals, and the top person will receive a Dragon Quest VIII T-shirt. I feel so anxious that I keep logging in to Slime Knights and checking my email. I have been doing this all morning. Come on, King Slime! Hurry up! Send me those bonus questions!

Spring Break 2006

Lots of people visit Lake Havasu City, AZ when celebrating spring break. Because I live there, spring break lasts a couple of months. Jobs multiply, traffic increases, and store check-outs are packed. One activity I like to do is check out the tourists partying like maniacs at Kokomo's, which is the largest dance club / bar in the entire city. I haven't been there in a long time. I got sick of the nasty behavior of drunk men-- they touch me the wrong way when influenced by alcohol. However, I went back last Friday. The reason is because Slime Knights is having a quest for writing fan fiction. In the story, the heros from Dragon Quest VIII celebrate Spring Break, somewhere. I decided to write from the perspective of a local observing the gang having a good time. Dragon Quest VIII - Celebrating Spring Break Music blares out from speakers at a dance club/bar called Kokomo’s. A blond haired girl wearing bunny ears and a fluffy, white tail walks by, listening to the song. She peers through metal bars at beer signs, lights, and a pool covered by what appears to be black colored balloons. The night sky both hinders visibility and brightens the appearance of the red, green, and yellow lights that hang over the pool. Realizing that looking through this angle wouldn’t satisfy her curiosity, she steps away from the fence and walks along, singing with the lyrics to “Tootsie Roll.” She quickly glances at the port to her left and the boats sitting there, and then looks at the old London Bridge that shines brightly from its lanterns. “Such a beautiful bridge,” she thinks to herself. She walks on, and soon finds another clear view of the inside of Kokomo’s. There, she notices a new structure. Curious, she steps onto a small stone wall to get a closer look. “Oy! What are doing? You better not be trying to climb in!” A muscular man wearing a mask shouts at the bunny. “I was only looking through to see if this place has changed since the last time I was here. Someone told me that Kokomo’s got shut down because someone fired a gun.” “There weren’t any guns here, lady! What the hell are you talking about?” “It is a rumor that I heard. I also heard that this place changed ownership, as well.” Bully relaxes his posture. He folds his arms. “Well then, I never heard that one, before. Do you live around here?” “Yes,” the bunny replies. “For how long?” “A few years.” “Do you like it here?” The bunny shrugs. “It’s okay.” She then tells about her experiences at Kokomo’s and that she plans to come this weekend. The bully raises his fist. “Right on! Hey! What’s your name?” “Rika.” “Cool. The name’s Raibe. Be sure to look for me, later!” Raibe then reaches his arm between the bars of the fence to shake Rika’s hand. Rika gets closer to the fence and reaches as far as she can. The two slap hands and bang fists. Rika waves at Raibe, and then she continues walking along the path. She stops and peers at the newly built bar building near the entrance, then she walks through the English Village towards the London Bridge. Beside the bridge are stairs that climb up to McCulloch Blvd. Once at the street, Rika walks east, towards home. Time flies by like lightning. While sitting at home, Rika hears people hollering while driving by. Yes, Friday night is here, and people express ecstasy in celebrating Spring Break. For Rika, it’s a chance to witness more excitement than normal. “Kokomo’s, here I come!” At 10 PM, she arrives early. The dance floor appears mostly empty. Rika steps onto the dance floor, shakes her butt and swivels her hips. A few seconds later, all sorts of people get on the dance floor, and before you know it, the floor is packed. While dancing, a young, black haired man wearing a red bandana and blue shirt approaches Rika. He gestures, requesting her to dance. Rika accepts. They move with the music, facing each other. After dancing together for a few songs, the man requests Rika’s name. After telling him her name, he shakes her hand and says, “My name is Eight. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” After that, Eight walks away to join some friends. A while later, a short, middle-aged man asks to dance with Rika. She consents and they begin dancing. After a while, the man declares, “I haven’t had this much fun in a very long time! What’s your name?” Rika tells him her name, and then the man tells her his name, which is Trode. He then indicates that he wishes to get a drink, and then he leaves. Rika dances alone for a while. While dancing, she notices a young man staring at her. He has long, white hair and he wears a red Templar uniform. Rika thinks to herself, “He looks cute.” The two make eye-contact, but then Rika looks away. She doesn’t want to appear to be staring at him, and so she keeps dancing, pretending that she didn’t see him. She pulls out all the stops to impress him by shimmying, moving her pelvis, and shaking her hips. The Templar keeps staring, sipping his drink. Some time later, Eight returns and resumes dancing with Rika. They dance for a few songs, and then Trode returns, holding a two liter mug of frothy beer. He extends it to Rika, but she sticks out her hand, palm facing outwards, pushing it away. After that, Trode walks away to enjoy his beer alone. Once Trode leaves, Eight resumes dancing with Rika. The two dance together for many songs, and then Trode returns. He speaks to Eight, and then Eight excuses himself. Trode takes over dancing with Rika. While dancing, they begin to salsa, and then Trode takes Rika’s hands and twirls her around. After a while, Trode dances while holding Rika in his arms. Feeling uncomfortable, Rika looks away from her partner. She notices the Templar staring at her, but then a couple of ladies drag him onto the dance floor and start dancing with him. Rika looks away, and focuses on her partner, Trode. At one point, Trode’s hold on Rika feels too close to her breasts. She pulls his hands down to her waist, where it feels safe. Rika thinks, “This is the reason why I haven’t been here in a long time,” and she sighs. More frequently, she gazes at the Templar, watching him sandwiched between two women, dancing dirty. Suddenly, the music stops playing. The DJ announces the main event for the night. “This is 102.7 KIIS FM, visiting from Los Angeles for Spring Break. Inside the swimming pool are balloons. I will toss two balloons into the pool. They are marked with a code for winning money. The prizes are either $5 or $1000. People that wish to win money will need to dive into the pool and retrieve the winning balloons. While they are blindfolded, I will throw the balloons into the pool. Only the audience will know their location, and they can guide the participants to the winning balloons. Once the blindfolds are off, the participants will have one minute each to search.” After hearing that, Trode tries talking to Rika, only to frustrate her, because she now can’t hear what the DJ is saying. She tries to concentrate on what Trode is saying, but she can’t hear anything. She stares at the Templar, feeling desire for him. Then, music starts playing, and the DJ keeps talking. People on the dance floor walk towards the pool, including the Templar. A red-haired woman with pigtails approaches Rika, and she asks if she is okay. Rika covers her ears and says, “I can’t hear anything!” Rika then walks down to the pool to witness the action. She sees a man walk out of the pool with a balloon. He appears heavy-set, and he wears a spiky hat. After his balloon reaches the stage the DJ announces that we have a potential winner. He asks the man to speak his name into the microphone. “Me name’s Yangus.” After that, the DJ signals for the next participant to dive into the pool. A scrawny man jumps in to locate the other balloon. He finds it quickly, and then he crawls out of the pool with the balloon. The DJ announces, “We have two winners, everybody! We will check the money for this recent balloon. If it contains $5, then the first balloon winner wins $1000. Here goes… and the prize is $5! Yangus wins $1000!” The heavy-set man then throws up his arms in victory. The crowd now begins to dissipate. Rika spots the Templar. He stands by some ladies and sips a drink. Shortly later, the women grab his hands and drag him off somewhere. Rika returns to the dance floor. Once she gets there, she spots a crowd of people surrounding a man behaving violently. Rika steps away. She watches as soldiers secure the man and handcuff him. They then drag him away. After that, Rika danced until closing time.

DQ8 New Year Resolutions

I got Dragon Quest VIII for Christmas, and I have been playing it ever since. I just finished the game, last night.... or should I say 2 am this morning. I took a peek at the bonus dungeon, but I decided not to fully explore it. Instead, I will play the game all over again from the beginning. I started a new game this morning. Some of the characters in the game are such bumblers. In honor of the Chinese New Year, I created a list of New Year's resolutions that I think they would seriously consider. 10. Red resolves to acquire a fine stallion for herself—one that isn’t a princess in disguise. 9. The new high priest resolves to punish or expel all church members and templars that indulge in drinking liquor, gambling, and taking bribes. 8. Kings and nobles resolve to let their children become acquainted with potential suitors & let them decide for themselves whether or not they wish to marry. 7. The king of Argonia resolves to order his son to repeat the initiation ceremony—only this time, he must do it without any assistance from anybody. 6. The chancellor of Argonia resolves to exchange his bedroom mirror for an item of equal value—hopefully for one that doesn’t have any mysterious enchantments. 5. The king of Ascantha resolves to repair the problem of having the unsightly entrance to the royal treasury located in the castle’s entrance hall. He knows that he should find a more secure location, one with guards posted in such a manner that they could see the treasures to ensure their security. 4. Sages resolve to form stronger seals to protect the world from evil than what is possible from using their own blood. Such means are a temporary fix at best, because there is no guarantee that their heirs would honor their ancestor’s legacy or have children of their own. 3. Yangus resolves to practice improving his thieving skills so that he could steal gold and items from monsters much more frequently. 2. The Golding twins resolve to add Lucky Panel to Baccarat Casino. Adventurers need betters means of acquiring rare items besides fighting certain monsters. Providing such items as mystery prizes would encourage more people to spend tokens at the casino. 1. King Trode resolves to increase security to protect Trodain’s treasures. Oh, and many other people at Square Enix official Dragon Quest fan site created New Years resolutions, as well.
