Well, "it" hasn't done anything worthy of changing my thoughts on gamespots reviewers. So many reviews on this site scream "pay-off". I'm really sick of these giant companies giving less-than-honest, even jaded reviews. So far, if I want honesty from real gamers, I go to classicgameroom.com. You can totally tell that these guys just absolutely love playing games both new & old. I strongly recommend.

Wait. So this game is basically modern version of Gauntlet? This is what every gamer that comes into my store is raving about? No thank you. I out grew Gauntlet in the 80's. First of all I'd like to say that this has got to be the best video article I've ever seen on a video game website! THANK YOU! The "everyman" you speak of in video games & even in movies is unfortunately a dying breed. Personally, I feel that this lack of placing an average person in extraordinary circumstance to be one of the great crimes within the video game world and very often the film world. I think that movies like Die Hard and Heat (off the top of my head) are so much more thrilling simply because one relates to the character on a human level. Being able to make a human connection with the protagonist makes my imagination run wild. "OMG! How is (Die Hard's) John McClain going to get out of this one?" can easily translate to "what would I do in this situation?" While games are few and far between that really create the feeling of being just a typical person, here are a few off the top of my head to add along to your list. In advance, sorry if some of the other people on this thread mentioned these already: Manhunt 1 & 2, Kane & Lynch 1 & 2, Deadly Premonition, Alan Wake, I am Alive, Dead Space, and the GTA series (with the exception of the most recent entry- Nico was specially trained), all feature very human, yet (in the case of most of my pics) very dark and depraved, compelling characters that interest me so much more than the typical juiced up merc, space marine, future soldier, or infected Hulk like shape-shifter.
