Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes "looks slightly better on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One", according to Game Informer - a feeling reportedly shared by director Hideo Kojima.

Discussing the game's visuals following a hands-on playtest in its latest issue, Game Informer states that "Kojima Productions’ hard work under the hood pays off in the graphics department," noting Fox Engine's impressive lighting and the sight of "watchtowers [crumbling] to hundreds of pieces with an RPG shot".

However, it later adds that "Kojima notes that MGS V looks slightly better on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One, something we also noted before he mentioned it."

It isn't clear from the article how the two versions differ from one another, or whether one runs at a lower native resolution than the other.

A Konami representative told VideoGamer.com that they were unable to confirm the native resolution and frame rates of the two versions when contacted about any potential differences last week.

The revelation will come as a further blow to Microsoft which has already seen major titles like Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 perform worse on Xbox One than PS4.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 21, with MGS5: The Phantom Pain following at a later date.

This evening iGR covered Best Buy‘s Ultimate Gamers Showdown, Madden 25 tournament. I had the opportunity to speak to Sony, Xbox, and more importantly, Best Buy PR while spectating the tourney. While company policy prohibits stating exact sales figures of any product, I was given a general statement as to which next-gen console is currently selling better at Best Buy. On-site members of Best Buy’s Senior PR team stated, “We’ve sold many more PS4s than Xbox One’s.” The staff also noted, “Both products are selling extremely well.”This being Best Buy’s flagship store in Richfield, MN, less than a mile from corporate headquarters; I take these numbers as a general trend of nationwide sales thus far.

That fact was driven home by the sheer amount of next-gen stock that Best Buy had on-hand. The retailer had nine PS4 units (two of which purchased moments later) and over thirty Xbox One consoles in-stock. Another surprising revelation was that the Madden 25 tournament was being played exclusively on PS4 hardware. And yes, before another “There’s PS4′s in-stock” article is printed; PS4s and Xbox One’s were both available at Best Buy.

The fact remains that both consoles have sold over two million units since they launched. But Best Buy was just one stop I made tonight. I also visited my local GameStop before heading home. The CSR working when I arrived pretty much mirrored the statements from Best Buy saying, “We don’t have any PS4′s for sale right now, but we have about 25 Xbox One’s.” The rep added, “I get calls everyday from customers looking for PS4′s.”

In the end both Sony and Microsoft have enjoyed stellar console launches. How things stack up long-term remains to be seen.

PlayStation 4 & AMD Radeon R9 290X GPU share the same 8 ACE ( Asynchronous Compute Engines )

Newly leaked slides from AMD's new Radeon R9 290X Hawaii GPU reveals that the Volcanic Islands GPU will also feature 8 Asynchronous Compute Engines much like the Liverpool GPU inside of Sony's new PS4. Each of the 8 ACE's can manage up to 8 compute queues for a total of 64 compute commands, in comparison the HD 7970 only has 2 ACE's that could only queue 2 compute commands for a total of 4 & the Xbox One only has 2 ACE's but they also manage up to 8 compute queues for a total of 16 compute queues. Could this mean that the PS4's GPU is also a part of AMD's Volcanic Islands family?

"PS4 GPU

has a total of 2 rings and 64 queues on 10 pipelines

- Graphics (GFX) ring and pipeline

  • Same as R10xx
  • Graphics and compute
  • For game

- High Priority Graphics (HP3D) ring and pipeline

  • New for Liverpool
  • Same as GFX pipeline except no compute capabilities
  • For exclusive use by VShell

- 8 Compute-only pipelines

  • Each pipeline has 8 queues of a total of 64
  • Replaces the 2 compute-only queues and pipelines on R10XX
  • Can be used by both game and VShell (likely assign on a pipeline basis, 1 for VShell, and 7 for game)
  • Queues can be allocated by game system or by middleware type
  • Allows rendering and compute loads to be processed in parallel
  • Liverpool compute-only pipelines do not have Constant Update Engines (presented in R10XX cards) "

to make a long story short

here is a comparison between the two systems side by side

XBOX ONE GPU:

1.18 TF GPU (12 CUs) for games

768 Shaders

48 Texture units

16 ROPS

2 ACE/ 16 queues

PLAYSTATION 4 GPU:

1.84TF GPU (18 CUs) for games + 56%

1152 Shaders +50%

72 Texture units +50%

32 ROPS + 100%

8 ACE/64 queues +300%
