If you expect to play any DX10 games, the 512mb is the ONLY way to go (unless you want to get a GTX or Ultra). 256mb ****IS NOT ENOUGH**** for DX10Swiftstrike5that's good yo kno.
At that res the 256mb should suffice. Personally though I wouldnt buy a card now with less than 512mb though. Try looking at the HD3850 512mb as a compromise.manic111im not going to get the HD3850. the 8800GT 512 rapes teh HD3870 by 900 marks. so the ATi 3000 series are out of the question.
If you're not going above ~1280x1024, you won't see much difference between the two. But right now I'm seeing the 512MB card for like $20 more than the 256MB card... just get the 512 for futureproofing (future games are only going to demand more RAM). You'll probably eventually move to a larger monitor and higher resolution, in which case the 512MB version sees considerably better framerates.F1_2004well I kno that the ram also store textures so that might be an advantage of getting a 512MB version as textures get more intence. And I don't plan on getting a bigger monitor either. Im currently on a ATI X1650XT 512MB and that thing can go pretty high resolution wise and textures some wat. but it's still out-dated.

[QUOTE="mastershake575"]Like I said I can build a kick ass comp. for $200-$500 less than most pre-build. i have to agree with this guy your blowing it way out of porportion you do know that there actually good pre-built companies out there that won't charge alot to build ???? some can be as low as $100 which isn't bad considering you get something you know that works and not everyone in here is a computer wiz I didn't kno that. well im getting out of this topic cuz cornerstone isn't responding to my ?'s so your los. maybewell do you want it already made or do you want to build it here's some pros and cons for each
building pros cons
- cheaper - have to know something about computers
- get better parts - problems do occur often when building
- know alot more about your computer- each part has a warrenty vs the whole computer
pre-builtprocon
- you get something that you knows going to work - cost about $100-$150 more
- dont' have to spend time researching and messsing with it - most support lines aren't very good
