Reviews.

You may notice that though I am a level 4 that I haven't reviewed anything. That's because even though I would love to say quite a bit about a show my computer won't alowe me to even see the nice little ranky thingy and the site won't let me even voice my opeinoe with out that little ranky thingy filled out. So I don't say anything. which is quite a shame for I'm quite a talker. Mial. local 42.

Poor MIAL

Well, poor MIAL (Mock-Intelectual Animation Lover), (ie, me.) I'm on such a weird level. I love animation discutions that involve big words and theories but sometimes I just can't find them. boo hoo. I wish people would read my blogs about what's wrong with animation today and feel obligated to debate or agree with me, but it seems you just can't be smart and like televetion. I even write. not fanfics. but my own stuff. I have quite a few blogs, all of which not one bloody person reads. Poor Mial... I should start a group for people like me. I know THE MIAL GROUP(local 42, no ones going to get the 42 boo hoo!) I read too, I love books mostly the odd and weird types, The hitchikers guide, anything from jasper Fford. stuff like that. so call all you out there. all you MIAL's please contact me!

the Empty Blog Syndrome

Finally finishing my blog rant of five parts, I'm left with an emptyness that is called " the Empty Blog Syndrome" (Aka. I'm Tired of Ranting) So to fill this void I'm asking that anyone out there even slightly intrested in the five part rant, please comment, give me something to answer, argue, rant over. until then... .I don't know. go watch barney or something.

Fans: animation and what isn't working. (Part 5)

Fans: animation and what isn't working. (Part 5) (Ok, I was wrong, only five parts. so rant me, :) ) Fans! The last word in any shows history! Let's face it when it comes to animation we maybe the only things that are working, but of course I have to be fair. So the last part of my 5 part rant on animation ends where all the shows do. ( I will be bias for the sake of being bias though). Fans, we must purchase the items and DvD's from the shows we love, we must watch the shows we love, We must fight for the shows we love!... but... Let's do it right! Let's face it when the show you love is facing the terrible idea of cancelation we feel terrible! We try all sorts of weird things in order to save it, but what we do wrong is that we don't plan these things out. So right here, Right now, I'll give you the list every fan should know: The How To save your favorite show list. 1. Get together! Gather the masses first, nothing you do will be worth it unless you have masses, get your huddled masses, or unrulyly mobs, heck even get your peanut gallaries! announce what you plan to do on fan sites, message boards and other places where fans gather (not just the ones you own but others), and get them to communicate with you and each other. The more the better, Newbies and experianced viewers alike. Gather the fans. 2. schedule your protest! There are many ways to protest, but first organize it! plan the days or weeks or months in which you are planning your attacks...err...protest. and have all your memebers do it, at once! 3. Gather more! even if you get a responce ( which you may not) gather more people stretch your reach as far as you can. Gather more. inform more! plan more! 4. Mass protest. Do step four again. this time do a "louder" way of protest, did signing a petition not work, then send emails, if they didn't work send written letters, or have each member send a penny or something from the show. Get louder and louder. 5. Never give up....until there is no one left. I'll admit nothing like a good battle but you got to know when the wars over. if very few are left, move on. there are other battles to be fought, other shows are in danger and one more voice could do the trick, but always fight, you'll never know when you might win. Fans.... take it from me if you start too late, you lose the war, At the first sign of trouble start this. and for a bonus, last and but not least.... a list of ways to protest a cancelation: 1.petition 2. emails 3. hand written letters 4. sending in objects that simbolise show 5. buy up all merchandice 6. boycott 7. rant! And this dear readers is the end of my Five part rant. Animation and what's not working. Thank you, and remember always fight, you'll never know when you might win.

Political correctness, and the role of parents. animation and what isn't working

Political correctness, and the role of parents. animation and what isn't working (part 4:1) You knew it was coming, because everyone else is doing it too, but at least this time others are likely to agree with me. Political Correctness has no place in humor other than a joke in itself, Animation therefore ( most of them being comidies anyway) should not be subject to it, or at least to that much of it. Again a gentle balance is needed, in order to still be an acceptable product. 1. leave the old cartoons alone, you stupid bastards: Porky stutards, Daffy has a thisp, speedy gonsalas is fast and has a hispanic accent, it's more real than some stupid PC cartoon with characters that are totally correct and nonoffncive. "fixing" these cartoons will not fix society. Only education will, Cartoons don't start societies problems, families and ignorance do. Teach your frigin kids real from unreal, and let them be the judge. Just please leave the cartoons alone. 2. Let cartoons deal with real stuff, before your kids have to.Now for the more real animations( cartoons that pose as preteens or teens), especially for kids, let the cartoons deal with real problems, let the kids see these problems and ask questions. parents reaction to kids questions should not be " what is that cartoon showing you, let me complain," but " That's a good episode, Let me explain." The problem with offencive cartoons is not the cartoon itself but the lack of anyone to ask what the cartoon was about. 3. Only parent's decide, so networks don't have to decide for everyone. Right now their are alot of Adult animations out there, not just in content or speech, but also in how deep their plots are; parents are the only one's who know their kids, they should be the ones who decide what their kids are able to watch; Parent's need to watch with their kids, talk to their kids, be with their kids. That's why they made the tv ratings, use them. 4. Cartoons are for adults, children and family. Cartoons and any animation for that matter are for diffrent target audiances. They always have been, it's not anything really new, just lost. Parents and children need to know what cartoons are what. Cartoons for adults usually appear later on in the nightime hours, families cartoons are on during the hours of 8:pm to 9:00pm tops and childrens last from moring till then. That's not saying families can't or shouldn't watch late hour or early hour cartoons together, but if parents need to know. Cartoons are for all ages, give in already. I have no kids, but I know when I do I will not be able to be with them all the time, but I will try to teach them when I can, answer their quetions where I can give answers, and watch cartoons.

Dvd and Merchandicing: Animation and what isn't working (part 3:2)

Ah ha now for part 3/2, merchandising. so what is wrong with trying to earn a little money though the healthy merchandicing of your more popular characters and shows....Nothing....if you do the right amount. too much over saturates your market and sickin's your audiance turning some away from your product, and sometimes your show altogether. too little creates the atmostphere that you don't care about your fans, turning away a healthy market and can cause collectable mayhem if the show is popular. So what is too much? Too much is glass snowglobes at walmart for children I repeat GLASS SNOWGLOBES FOR CHILDREN. Too much is the Sponge Bob sponge. It was that kind of merchandicing that killed it for me. and tons of others., this type of merchandicing is what kills alot of nicklelodens more popular shows before they hit their strides. So what is too little? too little is when the only object a fan can find is some 50cent plastic do-hicky from a candy machine, or some plastic peice of crap from the bottom of some wendy's kids meal. (wendy's because they tend never to advertise the toys in their meals, usually a sure sign that a show isn't doing well. ) The companies that market these need to have a balance, first merchandicng alone cost money so lets not blow it all on items that are not going to bring in money or are so stupid to begin with that they will only sell as a joke. Less is more but, you do have to have some. stick to the basics when it comes to cartoons. Dolls/actionfigures, coloring books, small chaper'er books and the such, for older collecters comic books, and collectable (well made, diecast) models. Let's not go nuts, children and other fans don't want glass snowglobes that are ill painted and play something total unrelated to the show. Children want something to play with, adults want something to show off that is worth showing off, for that is the way of the fans, and if you want money, you want fans.

My ongoing blog rant so far...

This is for anyone who is actually bothering to read my blog. below is the entire list of what I have already finished in my animation rant. feel free to comment and prove me wrong. TV networks: animation and what isn't working. (part 1:1) TV networks: animation and what isn't working. (part 1:2) TV networks: animation and what isn't working. (Part 1;3) Directors/Creators: animation and what isn't working (part 2:1) Directors/Creators: animation and what isn't working (part 2:2) Directors/Creators: animation and what isn't working (part 2:3) Dvd and Merchandicing:animation and what isn't working (part 3:1) (and no my rant isn't over yet, I picture this to be a 6part rant. so stay tuned.)

Dvd and Merchandicing:animation and what isn't working (part 3:1)

To continue this long drawn out rant, I begin by asking the question almost every hardcore Resurrection animation believer can answer: What Brought back Family Guy? To which the answer is: The DVD sales. So what's wrong with DVD's? what am I, the amazing ranter, going to say about this form of media which may give new life to the animation industry as a whole? 3 Simple complaints : Too little, Too much and to old. 1. Too little: Too little is referring to the Extras in a DVD. you know, the games, a making of feature, deleted scenes, audio commentary by the creators and actors, and eggs. Sometimes the extras are the make or break of a sale, what are you going to buy? the "special" edition that cost 30 some-odd dollars with little or no features, or the not so "special" edition at 19.99 with the same thing? I though so. DVD's are more than the old VHS of the 80's you have to have more if your going to try to sell, mostly because DVD's can hold more and cost more. VHS could hold up to 2 to 3 episodes of the old cartoons. where DVD's can hold that an much more. Then why if the DVD is worth more if there is more, not being used to this advantage? What I mean is, The more there is on a DVD the more likely it is to be bought, even if it wasn't a really good show to begin with. Try to target the Hard cord fans with the extras, but keep the extras so that you may try to make hard cord fans out of the newbies. 2. Too much. Now this seems to contrast the first fit of ranting about DVD's but it really is something different. Too much is how many different DVD's are coming out at once! The industry is getting spread pretty thin over way too much stuff. instead of focusing on what shows could pull in more money though DVD sets, it seems that most companies are just putting everything and anything on DVD's. Let's take Cartoon network for example, as far as I know they don't have a single box set of any of their new more popular cartoons, but oldies that the kids of today will never really care to watch twice get full sets. (can someone please tell me that I did not hear that Penelope pitstop got a set of dvd's out ? arn 't their more deserving cartoons?) Now don't get me wrong I love animation, and I have a soft spot for some of the oldies, but every time I go to the DVD part of any store I go dumb, there are so much to chose from, my intrest lags and I end up deciding I don't want what I came for. I wise teacher once told me that too many choices are just as bad as too few. We need to limit our releases just a bit, maybe take intrest votes in what people would buy, not just throw all your old stuff on to dvds. there has got to be some kind of rational that controls this or it will just blow apart over everything. 3. Too old. Now I hit upon this one a little in too many, but this one kind of takes a little from both, When it comes to "Too old" I'm speaking of animation it self, If your going to bring back something from the 1950's the least you can do is enhance it a bit, or fix some of the film. I own the third box set to The ADVENTURES OF ROCKY AND Bullwinkle and in quite a few episodes you can see the wear and tear of the years past on it. Now Rocky and bullwinkle is a very old cartoon, and wear and tear is almost expected but some dvd's with some older cartoons won't even try to repair some of the damage of time, what's the use of turning it into a digital media if your not going to help enhance it a bit. companys lose a lot of sales due to " bad quality". In fact if I had to chose I would rather a company take the time to improve the quality than I would them to give me more extras, ( both would be great but some things just can't have them both.) Quality over Quanity. Less in this case is more. Even Hard core fans would agree.
