@Sepewrath: Fractionally at best. Hence games have visual detail sliders. Set it to the highest and you are getting the best they made. If a developer tailored their game only for high-end computers, it wouldn't mean that they would magically be able to make their textures and techniques better.
@pcgameboy: What? The PS4P and the XB1X are using the same thing PC games have been using. Make a game, then use different textures / resolution / framerate to best use the faster hardware. How is this holding a game back for a console but not a PC game?
@Battalis: Your statement only reason to upgrade if you have a 4k tv, is not true. It is up to the devs to take advantage of the XB1X or PS4P. We've already seen some games have a performance option giving the user to have 60FPS which would affect any 1080p tv user. In addition many games are getting higher textures in addition to 4k resolution. Even if you don't have a 4k tv those higher textures, higher shadows, longer draw distances will clearly be visible.
Now sure you need a 4k to take full advantage, but 1080p tv owners still have a good reason to upgrade. The question becomes does the discretionary budget fit the benefits of upgrading.
@futbol_skillz: Personally, I absolutely loved the original, but the newer style/game play of final fantasy games have really turned me off. I loved the games when it wasn't about graphics and camera angles. Clearly this is just my opinion, and I'm sure millions love the new style of FF, but I would in a heartbeat replay up to FFV before this latest version.
@Terminator95: hmmm.... so anything that has sold less than a competitor is still crap, interesting philosophy. So you only buy the most popular items in your life, and what does this tell you about your life? Wow seriously a lot of gamers in general are some of the most immature, uneducated, irrational individuals you will find. I thought motor heads can get irrational over their choose of vehicles, but man gamers take it to a whole new level of irrational thinking.
@sakaixx: Don't get your hopes up too high, it's not going to do $630 PC performance. Can they implement techniques that will make it looks similar yes, but like for like - no.
As others have mentioned the GPU was higher clocked than the GPU in the PS4P, the CPU is not even in the same ballpark, not even close. And if anyone thinks the CPU has no effect on games, just google and see for yourself. While the PS4 and PS4P both have 8GB of RAM not all 8GB is available to developers, last I knew it was 5.5GB available. And sure size of RAM doesn't affect raw speed, it does affect how much throughput the system can handle in memory which is needed for gaming. With only 5.5GB it will be hard to have enough for the demanding need of 4k (that is why all graphic cards claiming to do 4k well have 8GB of RAM or more).
Now before people get all butt hurt, if they are not already, I'm not saying the PS4P is a bad machine, especially for the price, not at all. I'm also not saying they can't achieve 4k on some games, but this comparison is not really that close. And if you have a game running at 30fps at 4k on this machine, with the exact same settings, the PS4P will simply not be able to replicate the same results, as such we all know that games will be lower res than 4k and up scaled (not the end of the world).
@xcael: You are seriously smoking if you think it will be less than $50. These consoles have a custom made APU, not just a slap off the shelf chip. AMD has to bake in costs to develop these APU's. There is a reason why the chip in the original PS4 was estimated to cost Sony $100 each.
@Moonco: Native 4k gaming would require a much bigger box (not good when the average consumer wants it to go with their entertainment center), generate a ton of heat (more prone to failure), and cost $$$. The Nvidia 1080 does decent 4k gaming in most situations - that is a $600 card. The power consumption spikes around 300w, which is more than the entire console. Now imagine making a custom APU with a CPU that won't be a huge bottleneck to that GPU, and the GPU. It would be massive and massively expensive.
So how many mom and dads would buy their kids a $900 console, that would be huge in size? Ya some gamers would buy it, but not anywhere close to making up the money in R&D for the thing. These console manufactures have to strike a balance between price and performance. If the cost goes up they simply won't sell enough to make it worth their time. The missing UHDBlu-ray player is baffling, that couldn't have cost that much more.
@romeothebeast: The one thing I don't get is, if size is not a concern or the biggest concern then why would anyone by the slim? Yes it is $100 cheaper, but the pro comes with a 1tb hdd instead of 500gb. Granted serious gamers need more than 1tb, but for the average joe 1tb is good enough for a long while. If you have to upgrade your 500gb 2.5" hdd to at least 1tb you'll be spending on average $50. At this point the slim is actually a bad deal when compared to the Pro.
