rubenlb Blog

this is kind of my goodbye blog...

well it seems that i can not do get the same satifaction of being on gamespot as i use to.  the new gamespot look might be a large contributing factor ( i am having a hard time navigating around here ) for my decision to leave but also it has to do with my inability to be enjoy being online at gamespot as much as i use to.  also i have been working on a variety of writing projects on other forums and online communities some of which include writing fanfiction episodes of smallville!  it is pretty time consuming but a lot of fun.

so with me kind of leaving i kind of have to close down the daily planet.  if anyone thinks that there are up to running the daily planet i would be more than happy to keep it running and help out as moderator on weekends ( weekends are my online days.  i can post threads and assign new moderators and such )  but i can no longer carry out my duties as an administrator.

of course i stil play video games every now and then so i will still pop up to check the status of upcoming games and such but it is safe to no longer consider me a regular gamespot member.

of course if you still want to keep in regular touch with me let me know and i can tell ou where you can find me on other online communities and forums.

and if you are a reader then i highly recommend that you read the two episodes of smallville that i wrote ( conduit, ultra ) and one episode that i co wrote ( encantadora ) when they are posted on kryptonsite sometime in december when i either reactivate my account there or start a new one.

but if you want to run the daily planet let me know soon otherwise i will have to delete it.  i would really like to keep it running even if i am no longer the leader.  also i just would like to say thanks to everyone i have come into contact with it and for making the daily planet such a great place.  if i am an officer for you board or union you might want to resign me.  i really am sorry that i could not be of more help.  and if you want to remove me off you friend's list then you would be right to do so.

so with that said do not think of my departure ( dare i say exodus.  get it exodus.  ...smallville ) as goodbye but a see you later kind of thing.  :)

the fourms up and running... i think...

it seems that the forums are finally up and running.  after experiencing the new gamespot for the first few minuntes i got to saw that it is a little disappointing.  everything seemed so convient and easy to access before and now i am just confused.  how do i access my signature?

the daily planet

"oh no the clouds! it's obviously time to panic!"

while i live in texas i am blesed and thankful to say that i was in no danger of hurricance rita at any time. i only wish others had had it as good as i did the past few days.

with that said it is time take a look at this...

i work in retail. so i deal with plenty of customers who... how should i put it... are a few supplies short of a tool box. the past week in the wake of hurricane rita my store got flooded with local residents in fear of the effects of the hurricane/tropical storm. now let me make something perfectly clear. i live in irving which for the most part is basically dallas texas. my fair city was in no danger of the hurricane what so ever. not only was it pretty obvious but even clearly pointed out by local weather forecasters. you do not need to have a meteoroligists degree to put together the fact that dallas is so far north in texas it is basically in oklahoma.

yet somehow my local denizens felt the need to back my store and basically buy every gallon of milk, every gallon of water, every type of flashlight, and every pack of battery we had in stock. all gone within a couple of hours. and for what? well look for youself.

be warned the pictures you are about to see sent other individuals into states of panic and fear!

that is it. that is as bad as it got. people were arguing in store aisles and punching thy neighbor for some menacing looking clouds. some clouds, no rain, some wind, that is it. the peak of the tropical storm... in my area. a couple of hours later the sun was out again.

something else which is kind of funny. the day after my area is suppose to feel "the peak effects" of the tropical storm my store receives an abundance of flashlights and water. sometimes i do not know which is worse.

for the love of everything good please stay in school kids. or you might end up being one of the higher ups at walgreens or maybe even worse shopping there. if you know what i mean.

tired of all those pesky union invites?

yeah most of us are. but i would like to extend an invitation to all my gamespot friends to join the real gamer's union. it is officially up and running and unlike other unions an invite is not sent to you. ( it is kind of like the union motto ) officers and members do not send invites to their friends. check out the union for yourself. click here

( the real gamer's union is only intended for mature and serious gamers. you do not have to be a hardcore gamer but you kind of have to know your stuff. check out the real gamers's union for more details :) )

also i might not be online in the next two to three days. i guess that is the down side to long vacations. eventually you have to come back to a big stack of papers on you desk or in my case... boxes on the floor or risers. that and something just came up right now that needs my undivided attention. got to go! *dashes out door*

what could my father's front lawn and you possibly have in common?

you have not been cut!

i have cut over three hundred friends from my friends list. i think i started in june with three hundred and eighty something friends on my friend's list and as of today i am down to only eighty friends. i also have over a dozen pending friend requests which i am getting ready to deny. i kind of feel bad about it but i never got a private message from any of them so i guess they were just looking to increase the number of friends on their friend's list.

also i think i passed my one year anniversary with gamespot here in july/august.

two weeks paid vacation!

yes i am finally getting some vacation time! techinically my vacation starts on saturday but i am not scheduled to work today or tomorrow as well. ( also techinically i am only getting paid ten of the fourteen days i am not scheduled to work during my vacation as well but no matter )

games: ( finally! there is time to ( play games )! )

a good friend of mine was willing to let me borrow some games including medal of honor: european assualt, castlevania: lament of innocence, and castlevania: circle of the moon.

compusa has two great games on sale this week. both splinter cell: pandora tomorrow and rainbow six three are on sale for nine ninety nine after ten dollar instant savings! ( no rebate, no forms to fill out, no only available online ordering, just ten dollars! ) so if you are in a bind and want to get a new game this week you can not go wrong with either one of these.

i bought a nintendo ds for my sister last week. appearantly my mother and my sister are going to share it. they wanted a nintendo ds ever since they first heard about nintendogs. i am planning on buying the nintendogs game tomorrow.

i put down twenty dollars towards call of duty two: big red one last week. it is scheduled for an early november release date ( as far as i know ) and i have yet to play any call of duty game so i am really looking forward to this game.

the upcoming stargate sg one: the alliance game might not be cancelled after all! yeah! now i can start living again! *throws prozac out window*

television:

the smallville fifth season premiere is a little more than a month away! we have yet to see any teasers about or for the fifth season though. ?

if i loved stargate atlantis any more it would techinically have to be considered a person.

i am really enjoying wanted on tnt. at times it does sound too rehearsed but it is still an excellent show.

not sure why but i can not stop watching attack of the show.

rubenlb's top five ( game reserves ) of the week:

  • stargate sg one: the alliance
  • call of duty two: big red one
  • ultimate spiderman
  • starship troopers
  • f.e.a.r.

a simple journal entry

have not been online for almost two weeks. but in my defense i have been pretty busy. :P just when i started picking up more hours at work they actually reduced the hours of almost all the employees except for these two new employees. so i got a part time job fixing up and painting this house on the other side of the metroplex. ( pictures coming soon... thanks to my super duper camera phone! )

everyone knows me as the big smallville fan that i am. but for the second year in a row stargate atlantis is my favorite show. it has never been cooler to stay in on a friday night. ( besides there is always saturday night )

speaking of stargate the new stargate sg one has been cancelled. :( noooooooooooooooooooo!

the fifth season premiere of smallville is less than two months away! ( if you live in the united states that is )

about two weeks ago a few of my peeps from out of state came by and we played splinter cell pandora tomorrow and chaos theory multiplayer and halo two. this was my first time playing the multiplayer on splinter cell and it is the most fun i have had with a multiplayer game.

i am still working out. i am only five or six more pounds away from my approximate weight goal.

i was listening to the radio a couple of days ago and there was this commerical for this new show on e called girl next door. normally i as soon as i heard e ( channel ) i would ignored whatever came next but i ended up listening and the premise of this show is about the lives of playboy playmates. anyway at one point in the radio commercial this one playmate says, "oh whenever someone sees or hears of us they automatically think two adjectives: bimbo and sl*t". of course i was not suprised but i could not help but wonder if the produces of the show did that on purpose or if they also had their adjectives and nouns confused.

that is it for now. i will try to be online more often. i have quite a few emails so i will try to get back to all of you soon.

rubenlb's top five ( songs ) of the week:

  • don't forget me: red hot chili peppers
  • point number one: chevelle
  • broken promises: element eighty
  • zero: smashing pumpkins
  • over my head: sum forty one

will not be online as much anymore... for a while

yeah. lately i have pretty busy and it seem that it might stay that way for a while. :( that and it seems that i can not really stay seated in front of the computer for a long time like i use to. i will probably only be online one or two times a week. i have some vacation time coming up in late august but until then you might not see much of me.

in case some of you are wondering what i have been up to...

  • i think purchasing a camera phone is the highlight of my year! taking picutures of people and places has never been so much fun!
  • i am working about four to five days a week. my job is so boring. lift, crush, lift, run back and forth, crush, lift, fill, crush, lift, run and forth, crush, lift, crush, and so forth.
  • there is only a little over a month left until my gym is closed down. it is pretty sad but i am making the most of it working out there as much as possible in its final days.
  • have not really had a chance to get in some quality game time.
  • but speaking of games i have never seen a more sexy game ( that is right i said sexy and game in the same sentence ) that the new stargate sg-1 game. you have to see the trailer for yourself. i think it is the most beautiful game i have ever seen!
