Still no PS3 Slim fan recommendations?

You're a bit of a freak aren't you...jack00

There's nothing freakish about taking a few extra sensible measures to keep the PS3 functional for longer, especially considering the poor manufacturing quality of some PS3s, Fat or Slim, that result in system breakdowns for no good reason. The PS3 Slim in my household that ended up with YLOD was, on average, played for a few hours per week at maximum, and was never played for more than 2.5 hours at one time (which happened possibly once; most play sessions were under 40 minutes). I have never seen it overheat, and there weren't any apparent extreme dust or ventilation issues.

But hey, if you want to risk losing your PS3 just a few days after its warranty expiration, be my guest. In my case, I was able to get a full refund from Amazon for the YLOD PS3 Slim almost one year after its warranty expiration, but they're not always so forgiving.

actually i think keeping the blu-ray disc in the ps3 is easier on the console but its up to you. i have 1 question though, if i don't have any extra towels to cover my ps3 when its not in use, is a paper towel ok to use instead?

I think a paper towel is more permeable to dust, so you might have to use several "layers" to get the same effect. A regular towel can cost like a few dozen cents if you look in the right places though.

I need some recommendations on PS3 Slim Fans (for keeping it cool, clear of dust, etc.) and/or general recommendations for prolonging the life of a PS3 Slim. It has a 3 year warranty but I would like to prolong the life of the PS3 regardless.

I'm currently planning on implementing the following techniques:

- add a PS3 Slim fan to keep it cool and free of dust when in play

- use the towel trick (wrap a towel around the PS3 when not in play to help keep it free of dust)

- keep the PS3 plugged in / turned on only when it's being played

- use surge protection

- take it out of the cupboard when in play, or at least keep it ventilated there by keeping the cabinet door open and a fan running

- add some buffers underneath the PS3 when it's in play to keep it better ventilated

- play the PS3 for no more than 2-3 hours MAX every 24 hours; try to play for less than 2 hours per 24 hours in general

- turn the PS3 off when it starts getting noticeably warm or other problems manifest

- remove any blu ray when not in use if it doesn't require excessive ejections

- possibly use a blu ray cleaner

Thanks for any recommendations/tips.

After my experience with Fallout 3 I decided Bethesda wasn't going to get any more of my money.

this.. after fallout 3 darn near bricked my old 60gig, i swore to never buy another bethesda game, i like keeping my word....

What do you mean by bricking your old 60gig PS3? I've heard several cases of PS3s dying after Oblivion or Skyrim was played. Did Fallout 3 mess up your PS3 and if so how? If Bethesda games are screwing up PS3s, that's a lot worse than a few glitches.

I got Medieval Moves. It probably sucks balls but not as hard as the other games available.

320GB PS3 Slim with DS3 controller + free PSMove Starter Pack (PSMove controller + PSEye) + free PSMove game (I chose Medieval Moves)

all for £199.99, brand new, on amazon.co.uk!

What about keeping dust free while playing? Place a fan strategically so it is likely to blow dust away from the vents?

Double_Wide

Check out the link that I posted for the cooling fan that I was talking about. It fits on the lower end of the fat PS3 vents, so all the hot air and any dust are being blown away from the remaining vents.

What about Slim PS3s?

I wouldn't call it entertainment. To me System Wars seems more like an area allocating a specific form of nerd rage.
