@dcowboys007 PLEASE explain to me how Joel is a sympathetic character? Because his daughter died? Because he's had to survive the hard, unforgiving times? Because he couldn't stand the fact a girl he knew for only a year had to die to save humanity? Doesn't matter. He's still a selfish, short-sighted, calloused, cold-hearted, lying psychopath who condemned his own entire species just to save 1 girl who probably would've preferred to have been the martyr anyway.
You fail to see this and you say there's something wrong w/ ME?
A sympathetic character is someone you can relate to, identify with, or care about. You identify w/ selfish psychopathy and the inability to say "thank you" to anyone? You care about someone who kills dozens of innocents and condemns thousands more just so he could have a replacement daughter?
@talkcasual i definitely do give Naughty Dog credit for portraying a character and presenting a world that is so engrossing that it sucked me in to where I felt like I did have some sentimental tie to it. And, yeah, i do give them credit for avoid the cliche.
But, yes, I am sure most ppl would NOT act like Joel in that situation.
@SythisTaru uhh, Joel is in no way a sympathetic character. He's a delusional, stubborn, overly-calloused asshole who has no regard for anyone but himself. Until he falls in love w/ a kid. He basically kills all of mankind for 1 girl he doesn't even like until she cries him a river. How could anyone sympathize for him?
Worst protagonist in a video game ever! (ok...the Soul Calibur 5 kids were pretty bad...and Kratos...)
@hastati4 let's say you are correct. We CAN agree you are also right in the sense that it doesn't tell us what defines a "gamer" based on this poll. A poll which probably is skewed based on its target demographic and limited sample size.
